What to look for in a gooseneck

How often do you plan to pull it?

I was just talking to 2 buddies who have pulled a lot of equipment frequently in that 10-12k range (10.5k skid or mini, plus extra bucket, ect)

Both had used 8k axles and both separately said they would do deck over tandem dual next time. It just sucks to be maxed out all the time and just isn't all that reliable.

On the other hand there are guys who run a standard 2 axle 14-16k trailer with that size machine and seem OK. Those are usually more like an 18' though. Just depends on if you plan to do it once a month or every day. I personally like having the extra capacity if I want to rent a heavy attachment or a small compacter, ect.

So in short, if you want a 25' get a goose with 10k or 12k axles.
Pull heavy? Not often at all, more often will be lighter loads.

the 10 & 14 ply 16" tires are pretty much maypops with that kinda weight once a few yrs old. The dedicated trailer I use for that skid steer now has probably had 8 blowouts in the last 20 yrs
I had a heavy (9100 lbs) tandem duals, 12" center, 12k axles, 30+5 g/n with torque tube etc that handled whatever you would throw at it, no worries with tires, but it was just too big for my use as my needs changed. Looks like the guy i sold it to in 2013 is now selling it, its kinda beat up now.
It was a little lower to ground that your usual deckover but the neck was too tall and flexed some under load.

The 20+5 14k I used to have was a good mix, but any time you loaded it heavy a blown tire was on the table.

Even the 17.5s aren't immune to it, a guy I work with hauls a 55 sized excavator on a 18k trailer with 17.5s and just blew out a 1 year old tire. What sucks is how expensive the 17.5 tires are.

Sounds like a 20+5 in a 20k or 24k is the perfect mix.
