What's new

We have a .22 rifle thread?

but both of those are subsonic no matter the barrel length, where he was asking about supersonic velocities
22 is an oddball. Standard velocity 22lr is still traveling over 1000 fps out of a 4 foot long barrel.

I have a few.

IMG_1487.jpeg

Henry, Marlin, Savage 22/410, Savage A22, a couple early 1900’s Remington pumps, and a Ruger that’s not in the pic.

it's pretty clear when it's supersonic just by the sound of it
but if you wanna get all mathy, at 20f which is about as cold as I'll go out plinking it's 1074fps, and at 90f which is about my upper limit is 1150fps
so their chart in the video maybe it'd cross the line with a 16" in the cold, but I haven't heard the crack yet

wonder how much velocity I lose being that all mine are blowbacks

That explains the crack. It’s regularly over 90 degrees when we shoot. SW summers are brutal. We’ve been out when it was over 100. Too hot for me. I have been tempted to take one of my Ceiner style bolts and drill a bunch of holes in it to get the weight down so it would cycle the CCI quiets.

Did a trigger upgrade to my Bergara BMR before the last match. I’m very happy with it. The gun shoots great, I don’t shoot great though lol. I ended up 13th out of 28. My buddy that I go with all the time took his first NRL22 win with his Vudoo

Hey...you weren't last!

I'm happy finishing middle of the pack anymore...middle age has consumed any competitive edge I never had...:lmao:

When I started centerfire and got my ass handed to me, I had to set little goals.

#1. Don't get beat by Abigail. Abigail was 11 at the time.

#2. Don't take a zero on any stage.

#3. Finish above the median, and that's where I'm stuck.

#4 Finish top 20. Hasn't happened yet, but there's some damn good competitive shooters around here.

When I started in 22, I had a couple years of experience in CF PRS, so at least I had a good idea how to use the props. Learning wind was a big jump tho. I'm still at #3 in NRL22 as well.

A couple I shoot with both have VooDoo's and he shoots a 22 like me, and hers is a 16, and they both shoot Center X, as do I. Patricks gun will never crack, but her gun will in a string of 10 send a couple at SS according to the crack. We shoot year around, so it can be 55* or 105* and at 1600' of altitude so figure 1110 to 1165 or so, which with a 22" barrel you'll never exceed. Brian Litz did a cool thought experiment he's calling Mach Trimming, but I don't see how you can apply it with mass produced ammo.

Been shooting Practical Rifle matches for almost 25 years. Generally there's 30-40 doods at a match. At one time, I could break into the top 10 regularly, main thing that kills me now is running...I have a shit right ankle, so its more of a fast hobble :homer:
Younger kids kick my ass in that aspect, shooting wise, I can still hold my own.
Fuck, I ate shit hard on the first stage this month...buzzer goes off, I took three steps toward 1st shooting position and found the one rock to trip on, straight down in my right side, muzzle into the mud .
They were nice enough to let me reshoot after I cleared the barrel...

I guess I understand it from a "it's what I got" sorta fashion
but it'd be so much more sensible to go with a box mag gun or one with the tube mag in the buttstock
To that…it’s what I have. I’ve found that if the mag tube is a few inches behind the muzzle, the direct thread cans I have work without removing. As with anything, why limit your options in a limitless world?

Marlin model 60.
Tube fed supremacy.

And it's the proper length tube, none of this short compliant bullshit.

I had the two guys that usually win our local matches, and both are ranked shooters. Stage #1 I clean it, and they both drop two shots...yeah, that was the only stage I cleaned, and those guys didn't drop any more shots after that first stage. But I had a good time and of course was right in the middle of shooters when it was all over.

Ruger precision rimfire - bolt .22, subs, and a can make for a great time.
Remington 597 - first gun, it was my 12th birthday present.
Henry Goldenboy - recieved as a christmas gift from my grandpa. Miss ya gramps.....
Ruger MKIII target hunter - picked up used on a 20 percent off weekend. Impulse buy, but it's cool.
Sig Mosquito - First pistol I bought myself.
Ruger charger takedown - Impulse buy for sure. I like the laminated stock, had an old Vortex Crossfire I threw on there for laughs.

Got a break in life stuff and added a steel Arca rail and a bolt knob from L3I to my BMR tonight. I’m pretty happy with the balance point and added weight.

I've got 4x 10/22 variants if you count parts collections.

I bought a bunch of stuff to upgrade a stock 10/22 I had purchased with intent of upgrading; Shaw barrel, BX trigger, deluxe bolt, some Kidd and Volquartsen bobs and bits, and a Magpul stock. I got to thinking about it, and the only thing I was using from the original 10/22 was the receiver. So I just bought a Brownells receiver to build instead. Basically 2x guns for the price of 1 if you think about it. That maths out in the end, right?

I've got an "art" 10/22, being a life long Arkansas Razorback fan, I HAD to have one of these. Never fired this one.

I don't have an updated photo of this one, but it's currently got a Benjamin Appendage trigger and a folding stock with a shoulder the thing that goes up. :flipoff2:

It's just silly fun.

I saw one of those ruger 10-22 green laminated stock with a gator engraved in it. While it’s cool, there’s no gators in Missouri
