What's new

We have a .22 rifle thread?

I think I bring this up in every .22 thread. Grew up blasting everything on the farm with my dad's Winchester 190, he won when he was a kid in high school FFA. I have a real nostalgia for those things. Here's the 290 I over paid for a few years ago to scratch that nostalgic itch. I bought it thinking it was a Deluxe but after I got it I I'm pretty sure it's just a 290. 190 was the base model, 290 had a nice stock, 290 Deluxe had an even nicer stock and gold trigger.

The real party trick of these things, they're a semi auto that'll cycle shorts... usually.

My first rifle was a .22 Winchester Lever, and I swear that furniture could swap right on to my gun. I still have it.

Have a S&W M&P 15-22 that I changed the hand guard out to an Aluminum version, put a Primary Arms 1-6x on it and a Ruger Ti can. Stupid fun to shoot. I'll get pics later for all these.

As it is now. The Primary Arms ACSS has a range finding reticle that uses a beer can, a beer bottle and a squirrel on it's hind legs for ranging.

Probably so. Winchester had a budget series of aluminum frame, hammerless, magazine tube, rimfires. They all shared A LOT of the same parts. The numerically higher model number was the nicer version, and if it ended in a 5 it was a magnum. The 190, 290, and 290 Deluxe were the semi auto as mentioned already. They had a 150, 250, and 255 (also called a 250 M) that were lever actions. There was a 170, 270, and 275 pump action.

I see folks talking about a 250 Deluxe online, but I'm not convinced that's really a thing. The 290 Deluxe had a really nice marbled walnut stock and gold trigger. Most of the folks I think are tacking the phrase "Deluxe" onto a regular 250, because it has a much nicer stock than a 150.

My goal is to have at least one of each. Folks have caught on to the 150s & 250s though, even these old cheap lever guns are getting spendy. All of the .22 WMRs are just silly prices now too.

Yeah, I believe it's a 250...again I'll have to dig it out of the safe. The furniture is soft wood and must have had some light damage to the finish, cause Dad sanded it and used linseed oil on it. Has a grooved receiver for an optic, don't know if that means anything.

Been on a pistol kick lately.

Had to cut a lil on it, but stuck it on a officer frame and its a riot:smokin: doesnt like more than 6 rounds in the mag. Still gotta figure that out

The Marvels set the bar pretty fucking high IMO:smokin:

what conversion are you using on the wilson? what mags?

thats a springfield micro compact with a wilson 22lr slide. Using the wilson mags as well. Finding 22lr mags for an officer frame isnt as easy as I thought it would be:laughing:

One of these

I have some promag mags that I have been using in the marvels. Need to try them in this thing and see wtf.

Look for a Savage/Stevens 87a...
Semi thatll run shorts and can lock bolt for single shot...thread and have fun!
don't see the point of threading one of them, you'd have to take the muffler off every time you wanted to top up the tube mag

maybe you could make extended hangers for the tube to hang it a bit lower, though

I've never shot a 10/22
I own one I bought from Walmart waaaaaay back in the day. Its SS with a greenish laminated stock (built for Walmart only back then) I have everything that came oem but it in a different barrel / stock configuration now.

Back in the day it was hard finding high capacity mags for it, now you can buy quality ones made by ruger.

I very rarely ever shoot it tho.

I have one of those I bought a bunch of years ago, it is a blast to run but it loves ammo. One thing I like about it is it’ll run most any 22LR ammo I feed it too.

Mine won't cycle with the can and subsonic ammo, but with standard vel CCI or such it's plenty quiet.

This thread encouraged me to get out and kill off some ooooold beer cans still full. :smokin::laughing:

It was a massacre beer bath. No survivors at all.

I assume barrel is short enough for regular .22lr to stay subsonic? I have a few $30 Anderson lowers this might be a good use for one of them.

most bulk pack is still supersonic through a 4.5
iirc you gotta go down to like 2 inches for it to make the cheap stuff subsonic

you talking 7 cent "standard velocity" or 5 cent "high velocity" like blazer, thunderbolt, etc
cause I'm talking the HV stuff

cci#35 is subsonic even through a 20" barrel

This and the standard velocity are my go to. I don’t shoot bulk pack trash unless I go back home and get it for free from my cousin or dad.

I like that.

I'll have to see if I can find a pic, I built a pistol right after the AWB ended in .22.
Chopped A1 bbl, Ceiner kit, flat top with old skool round free float tube and a rifle ext tube with a foam wrap...

Out of all my NFA stuff I think that little guy is the most fun to shoot.

I have a Rem 572 and Marlin 60 threaded for a can. They both have three lug adapters for the pre-Griffon Checkmate that I use on them. The 572 pump is quieter than a bb gun with shorts and subs.

Fify :flipoff2:

I guess I understand it from a "it's what I got" sorta fashion
but it'd be so much more sensible to go with a box mag gun or one with the tube mag in the buttstock

but both of those are subsonic no matter the barrel length, where he was asking about supersonic velocities
