Vintage aircraft photo thread

A pair of WW1 era beauties (amongst other cool old stuff) I found gracing a hangar on a little out of the way airfield in the British countryside.

Not sure what this was:

Ive seen and flown in ww1 era planes like that in person, Definitely takes you to another time thank you for sharing

It's a PA-11. Piper fixed everything that was wrong with the J-3 and made the -11. supposedly the best flying Cub ever made but I don't know yet. I hope to fly it in the next couple of months.

The J-3 didn't have much wrong with it. Nice plane. Show the beautiful bird in the sky when it is ready.

What's considered vintage when it comes to aircraft?

Big Sexy is 45 years old and the last of them are supposed to go to the boneyard this year. Huge mistake if you ask me.

I'm the fat fuck on the far right.

KC-10?

No shit? New tanker on deck? They’re still flying the 135’s too aren’t they?

135's are going strong, and from what I hear they are finally figuring out the KC-46. They problem is that neither of those aircraft can come close to the capability or versatility of the KC-10.

And the 135’s airframe is wayfuckin older right?
I was on the navy 707

Some of the older 135's are pushing 70. But they made a shit load of them and they sat alert for a good chunk of their life, so the hours on the airframes are relatively low.

Pics I took at the Deutsche Museum this summer. I really enjoyed the engines. If I remember correctly this was from the first plane to cross the english channel

Don't they have a Daimler DB602 Diesel Engine from a Zeppelin at that Museum?

Airco DH 4 I've always had a soft spot for it.

That p51 to the right in the middle pic was based at the airport I worked at/lived on in college, fueled that thing quite a few times. Also got to ride in the ball turret on a tbm avenger (it's actually in one of the pics Joez posted) and that same guy let me fly his snj-6. I need to go through my laptop of the pics I took over the 12yrs working at small airports.

I got a little time in a TBM Avenger and an SB2C Helldiver back in the 90s when I was flying a lot. It was pretty cool to be cruising along at 8000-10000' agl, roll and head almost straight down with the dive brakes out. It makes you really appreciate what the pilots went through in WWII when they went against Japanese ships.
