What's new

Used class A MH's

I let my kid wander. There's seat belts at the table and the swivel living room. My wife was freaked out about car seats and such at first, I think she did it 1 time :lmao: never again.

It's like life vests on a boat, gotta have them in case you get pulled over :rasta:

It's the way to go. Take a nap, go to the bathroom, treat it like an airplane and generally stay seated.

Much better for everybody and way better for 4+ hour trips rather than a pickup with car seats and such. It's a large part of what make a motorhome worth all the hassle

the law in MN is such that the first two rows of seating need seat belts, everything beyond does not

Some of the camp grounds won’t let you in if your coach is over 15 years old. There are some videos on YouTube about this problem. Somebody even showed up with a Provost that was in perfect condition but to old and they wouldn’t let him in.

Another problem with older coaches is the roof and water leaks. Be very careful when shopping for one.

Some places that number is no more than 7 years old. Long term, like one year or more. I’ve ran into no older than 7 dam years no exceptions.

Edit. “Good Sam” rating. That’s what all the cock sucker parks are vying for. Their favorite clientele are rich old kunts that cannot be caught parking their million dollar Prevost next to your 9 year old Winnebago. There’s a 30 point score system doled out based on reviews from the most annoying people alive. Those annoying people have money and time. So that’s what a park is striving for. To get a 28 or better score and the heaviest weighted good Sam criteria is how nice of RV they draw and retain within view of the poodle walking blue hair who’s judging your humble abode on wheels.

Truck stop, rest stops, parking lots...those are all advantages of non slide out, unless you make sure it is still fully functional when closed.

Boondocking, state and national run rv lots don't care about coach age. Really depends on intended use for what makes the most sense.

Too many options

The parks with age restrictions are not the ones that you want to go to. As said above they are filled with nothing but blue-haired nosy bitches with whom you do not want to associate.

I like the fully self-contained concept of an RV and the ability to park it anywhere. Some of my best times in my RVs were spent just pulled over in some random place with a good view., kicked back in a folding chair with an ice cold brew. Whenever the sun was completely gone and everything went black, I would go back inside and hit the sack.

On my last trip to Sturgis, I took the northern route and stayed on US 14 instead of bombing down I-90. West of Fort Pierre, SD, I spent the night in the gravel parking area next to a place called Little Brown Church on the Prairie. I'll have to dig some pictures out later to show exactly how desolate and silent the area was. Until the sunset, there would be a car or truck roughly every 15 or 20 minutes, but once the sun was down there was no motion, whatsoever. No cicadas, no crickets, nothing. Dead silent, pitch black, the only lights being a security light about 3/4 mile away on the side of a storage building, a dim LED "Harbor Freight special" light pointed at the church sign, and the lights from the charge controller inside my RV. It was like a scene out of a post-apocalyptic movie, where there were a couple old buildings yet no people remaining.

I set out my folding chair and watched the Sun completely disappear over the northwestern horizon after 10:00 p.m. whilst knocking back a couple Yuenglings. I didn't even have the radio on, because I did not want to disturb the serenity.

Now that's proper RVing.

EDIT for pic

Rule is to keep out shitty RV's .

Your employer? :lmao:
He was, I lasted a couple months and just couldn't anymore. Dude was creepy, screamed at me twice, "I don't know why you don't like me, everyone else loves me" like a heart broke girl :lmao: Of the 20 or so people I've me that know him, not a single one spoke well of him. Dude is a legend in his own mind.

That white wanderlodge is one of the last great rvs and half what I spent updating my older one. No water damage,no bs plywood,2x4 steel rollbar front and rear probably and built like a tank.
Basically the opposite of planned obsolescence like everything new.

This. We ran into this problem while on a 2 week trip. Now our rule is bed, fridge and bathroom must be functional when all slides are in. Although we have 4 slides, we can access everything other than the lower drawers of the dresser and one side of the closet. We passed on several nice MH’s for this reason. For example the Fleetwood Discovery bed folds up when the slide is in.

how thick is that riot shield? looks like 3/4" at least

I’ll check and get back with you. But it’s thick! The only thing ugly about that MH is the dinghy yellowish color that once clear guard has UV faded into.

Speaking of these things.

What does everyone do with little kids in them? Is there a spot to put kids car seats? Do people just let the kids wander around?

I am retiring in 2 years and am thinking about an camper of some sort afterwards now that im done moving every 2-4 years. I go back and forth between a fifth, tag, and an class a.

My ideal 5th doesn't seem to exist. I'm looking for a "toy hauler." Except with a completely separate small garage area. I don't want beds in the garage. I want a small cargo space with a separate bunkhouse. We go mountain biking and I want to be able to put our shit back inside at night and have beds at the same time.

My alternative idea was a MH with a small enclosed trailer. Bunkhouse, and indoor storage for shit available, plus room to grow if we get into other shit. Kayaking, skiing, whatever.

Anyways, back to the beginning. I have a 5 and a 3 year old. 5 is in a booster, 3 is in a regular car seat. But by the time I get something, the younger one will be in a booster, and im not sure what my son will be in by then. 5th or travel trailer would be easy. Normal seats in a regular pickup. MH would be a better setup for us, but what the hell to do with the kids?
I’m going to thread derail

You are retiring at what age with kids under 10.

38.

Joined the Coast Guard right after high school. Coming up on my 20 years. I've already submitted paperwork to get the process started.

I don't have illusions of buying an RV, hitting the road and not working ever again. Ill need to do something, but our house is paid for, and the rest of our debt from younger years is almost gone, so I don't think I'll need to do much. Maybe I can get away with just hustling shit on Craigslist. We will see.

I just want to go make small weekend trips, and maybe a bigger trip each summer with my kids.

I've meet him and actually know him quite well and personally think you're full of shit. Not many people have the fortitude to do what he has done. I've watched him try and fail, pick himself up and try again. Now, he's finally making it and for that, I give him props. He never gives up.

I'm not going to get into a pissing match as I'm sure you have your opinion the same as I but you stated you didn't know anyone that would speak good of him. Well, you have now.

Good for you.

That was not my experience with him.

Congratulations.:usa:

I'd do a big retirement road trip lasting a few weeks to months with the family. My kids still talk about some of the trips I took them on when they were in the single digits age.

With a nice RV like those, can't you just lie? Yes it's one year newer than your cutoff, thank you. :homer:
With a nice looking one you can. I slipped my old goose toyhauler into a place like that. It was plain white with alcoas, when it's clean it looks brand new.
