Dumbskull
I have a chainsaw in my collection that calls for 10:1 because McCulloch had this brilliant idea for the excess oil to be scavanged for bar oiling. this system did not last long
That was hurtfulRight! You start thinking that the best bikes ever made were in the 80's
Wtf?I have a chainsaw in my collection that calls for 10:1 because McCulloch had this brilliant idea for the excess oil to be scavanged for bar oiling. this system did not last long
I think a more likely scenario is dripping the oily mess out of the exhaust onto the bar...Wtf?
engineer- "We'll run all the gas through the chain before it gets to the carb. Don't worry... we're putting a screen on it to keep most of the flakes out. Anything small enough to get through the screen will simply get used up during combustion."
department manager- "Brilliant." [lights_cigar]

I also do that, but I just happen to have race gas on hand at all times anywayhell at those prices just run race gas
And nobody did any testing to see that it doesn't really pool in the crankcase, it actually makes crusty black stalactites in the head?the theory was that the extra oil would pool in the crank case, then get pumped through the bar

Ok, I guess it works then. 10:1 it is. (In my defense, 1st ive heard of it)Every 2t I've taken apart has a pool of oil in the crankcase...

32:1 is antique shit. Most people haven't been running 32:1 since McGrath was winning. My bikes run 80:1.
32:1 is madness to me. Might as well run diesel.
I'd love to see if that pool was present with the crankshaft whipping past/through it 150 times a second. I've always seen the pool when taking things apart as well, but the old timers in the oil mix wars back in the day saying that pool of oil is essential to lubricating the running engine never made any sense to me.Every 2t I've taken apart has a pool of oil in the crankcase...

My son's 2019 KX100 specifies 32:1. I thought it was pretty odd when we first got it. A bit of forum reading on them convinced me to go with the manufacturer's spec.32:1 is antique shit.

I've always kept 40:1 on hand for everything else. Mainly my old '92 250 KTM (mfg spec), and back in the day our Kawi jet skis, but it gets used in the snow thrower, weed eater, etc.
The mfg. spec for the 300XC we just got to replace the KX is 60:1, and is what I intend to use. Someday I'll get back to just having one ratio of premix...
I ran 50:1 back then also.32:1 is antique shit. Most people haven't been running 32:1 since McGrath was winning.
Generally I run 50:1 in the YZ250, but that thing gets Amsoil and I also actually know how to tune things so
I pulled one guy in off the sand dunes after his motor let go. Said he though it was bad mix of oil as he was used to running a synthetic blend and went full synthetic. I asked what his plug looked like and he said “What do you mean. Its a spark plug.” Yes they ride amongst us and vote…Pretty sure they haven't changed that motor since the 90s until they went to the 112.
We've been running my kids 04 on 40:1 Castrol for about 50 gallons of fuel now.
Proper jetting is huge. People blame melted pistons on oil, when they were running it stupid lean and hot for miles and miles before failure.
