School me.

I currently own a TYM 293 HST. I've rented a older shuttle shift Kubota a couple times. I use it for mowing 5 acres, snow removal, general landscaping/ garden tractor shit and as the occasional forklift. If I was richer, I'd get the right equipment to do all of that right. I'm not, so a tractor it is.

My current tractor is pissing me off to no end. I'm not being a dumbass with it, but I do keep breaking shit. I'm obviously asking too much out of the little guy. I'm looking to upgrade to a 35+hp and possibly go shuttle shift vs HST.

Local dealer has Kioti and TYM. I wanted to look at a TYM T354, it has a 3cyl Yanmar. recently discontinued, remaining stock is sold.

Dealer is pushing a TYM T474, big jump is size/hp. never heard of the Kukje engine. Or a Kioti CK3510SE Daedong engine.

Towing all this with a F150/tandem axle car trailer.

Love HST when I'm plowing snow in my tight drive, hate HST when I'm mowing a hill, or lifting stuff.

Never tried a Deere. Is Kubota worth the hype? Looking at Kubota, looks like a $8-10k jump. Specifically looking at the L4060.

Don't care brand or color, do care about reliability and user friendliness.

Out of curiosity, what's one of these tractors run? Mid 20s with a loader?

Can't go wrong with a Kubota. Just keep in mind in the 25hp + size tractors you will have the emissions which means a re-gen on occasion. One of the biggest faults of homeowners owning tractors with emissions is they don't run them hard enough. Run it at the suggested PTO rpm while it's doing work. I have HST and have had two shuttle shift tractors, would never go back unless free to me :) Check with your Kubota dealer to see what the going specials are, a lot of times they offer 0 financing for five years and 5 year warranty. They hold their value too. Make sure you get quick attach bucket, it makes life so much easier. I hardly ever use my bucket anymore. I have a L2501, it's basically a de-rated 34hp motor down to 25hp to stay under the emissions, it's plenty powerful enough for me.

Got a L3710 myself. I use it almost every day. Haven't had a single issue with it. HST is awesome. Its got a Woods9000 Backhoe and I get people telling me that it can pop right off. I look the thing over, and I can already tell it'd be a weekend's worth of fuckery getting it back on; so its stays on.

Get the biggest tractor you can afford. You'll never say you wish it were smaller. A skid steer quick connect on the front is also great to have. I installed a third function up front so I can hook anything I want. They sell blank plates so if you ever need to fab something up yourself its there.

We bought ours at a yard sale of all places.

I bought New Holland 2320(which is the old boomer tc45) new in 2007 45hp. Had cab heat/air and was hydrostat ,4x4 with super steer. Pushed snow and pulled a 6' brushhog mower. I ran a 72'' tiller behind it too. Was just big enough to run my 25k pto generator but it was working hard at full load. I tried a rear mount snow blower, not enough pto power to run it. Weighed right at 5k with 200#weights on each rear. I hauled it on my car hauler back and forth to the lot where I moved oil drums and off loaded delivery trucks etc, plus clear the lot in the winter. Super hand little tractor and I miss it for that. But I brought a line of flatbeds and arm beds in to sell and the little boomer just wasnt strong enough to pick them up. Put it on FBMP and sold it in a day, likely too cheap. Got 20k out of it with 575 hours, loader and a 6' straight blade on the rear.

I would own that little tractor again in a heart beat if I didnt neeeed more lifting capcity.

Replaced it with a 85hp Mahindra. It can lift the beds with ease.

I've got a 9' plow, calcium in the tires, chains front and rear, and it'll move 5' of snow no problem. meh

Your snow must be different than mine. My tc had more hp than your kubota. weighed 1500#+ more. yet it struggled in 2-3' drifts. Or I call bs on your 35hp tractor pulling a 9' blade through 5' deep snow.

Yep, moves it just fine.

The biggest issue I have with snow, is when the plow is angled it'll side-step the tractor so I have to take a few passes. But yea, I've yet to run into a snowbank or drift that it wasn't able to move.

Kioti and Mahindra no bueno and anything after 2012 is going to be tier 4.
HST will be faster,
I have a 2012 L3800DT w/loader and gannon. Even with the shuttle you be shifting the trans when moving from fwd to rev and rpm matching is tough, the sticker sez complete stop before shifting. Just gotta slow down to get your rhythm. No whiny HST pump is nice, just the sweet sound of a little diesel doing it's thing. The 2 stage clutch is very cool. Kubota parts, pieces and fluids are expensive.

Used New Holland 2120 or a new M series Kubota. My TC55DA does what I want but it is at the extreme limits of its capabilities sometimes. I will be replacing it with a New Holland or M series Kubota. I usually have a 12k logging winch or 72" brush hog on the back.
Don't forget to get remotes to the front to add a grapple if you go new.

Well, shit. Any serious upgrade is $30k plus. I paid $12k for mine. Was thinking $20-25k budget, selling mine for $11ish so spending around $10-15k out of pocket. I can fix a lot of shit for $20k
plus. Guess it's that age old problem of finding a "deal" on a clean used, or taking that 0% bait and getting a warranty.

I've been pricing tractors here lately. 50-70 hp with loader, 4wd and no cab is going to run you anywhere from $28k - $38k. The smaller compact tractors can get up to 50HP but they start hitting the $40K mark depending on the breakdown of options. I forget the model number, but the JD 4 series heavy duty was 50'ish HP, loader, 4wd, and no cab was $44K.

The new tractors that are 70HP and below do not have def fluid systems on them. Certain manufacturers may be different but JD, Mahindra, and New Holland are that way. Haven't got upclose or spoke to any Kubota or Kioti guys yet, but I'm betting they are the gonna be along the same lines.

I can't comment on TYM as the first dealer started selling them a year ago around here and I haven't talked to anyone who ones one besides the smallest one. Its pretty much Deere of Kubota with some New Holland's here and there. I ordered a JD 4052R in January and just took delivery of it last month. I paid $42k for a 52hp tractor with 3 sets of extra hydraulics, loaded tires, wheel spacers, and a power beyond kit to run a backhoe if I ever decide to get one. To me the 60 months at 0% with no money down was a no brainer, I could have written a check for it, but I will let my money work for me while making payments.

The tractor is all I should need to do small scale logging on the 150 acre property we have, I separately purchased a logging winch and grapple for the loader. I looked at the 3 series, 4 series, and 5 series, as well as the Kubota's. I figured out the 3 series was too small right off the bat, cost wasn't much cheaper than the 4 series. The 5E series come from India, and are base models with not a lot of options. I could have gotten a 5065E series with more hp than my 4 series for less money. I would have gotten a 5100M if I could justify the extra $30k for a 100 hp tractor. You can never have too much hp or lift capacity.

My advice is go look at them all, read the specs closely, and test them if you can. Lift capacity makes a difference if its measured at the pins versus 24" in front of the pins on the loader. Deere and Kubota also hold there values better than the other brands, but they cost more upfront. Think about storing them as well, my 40' long garage holds the 4052R with attachments on it, and the 1025R loader backhoe with just enough room to move around them, and store the snow blower and rototiller along the back wall.

We bought our 2001 L3710 with 480 hours for $12k at a yard sale. There were three or four other guys there that scrambled when they heard the asking price. Dad ran his ass to the Jeep to get the checkbook (we split the cost afterwards since we both were going to use it), I bolted home to get the trailer. The other guys were bullshit.

Don't have much more to add, but a friend of mine recently bought a new compact tractor/loader. Deere ended up giving him the best deal and price of them all. Kubota and Kioti were the most expensive, would not have expected that...

I have a 2001 New Holland 2120 4x4 with front end loader I will sell. Runs great, could use some tlc, not the prettiest but it works and could be cleaned up to look a lot nicer. I don't have up for sale, I plan on cleaning it up and taking care of the tlc this fall then selling it. 1889 hours $9500

Right! I just priced a kioti RX6620 about an hour ago. It was $2,000 higher than the JD 5065E I priced last week. For reference, a 2018 JD6065E is only $1,800 less than the 2020 models. I will say though, so far Kioti has been the most consistent in their pricing increments.
  • JD 5055E - 5065E $5,000 difference, $31k - $36k, 60hp -70hp
  • Kioti RX6620 - RX7320 $1,000 difference, $38k - $39k 66hp - 73hp
  • Mahindra 6065-6075 $5,000 difference $31k - $36k 60hp - 70hp
The JD 4052R or 4052M, what Krackle mentioned is the one I was talking about in my previous post. It was a really nice tractor with a lot of nice options. I fit quite well with the cab/seat and control set up, I really liked it but thats a lot of chedder for a smaller tractor. I'd be curious to see hear how it works out for what you are gonna do with it Krackle.

I bought an open station one as a cab wouldn't fit in the garage, and I am a year or two away from building a barn. It is a lot of money for a compact tractor, but the 5E's are longer with a loader and that was a negative as the woods here are dense and tight turning is important. I looked at a 4M that they had on the lot, the controls didn't feel right, and the seat and steering wheel where not adjustable, so it was a no go as the wife is short.

All of our land is wooded, and we are planning on harvesting our trees as needed to build the barn, and add onto the house. A log trailer will be purchased next winter, due to to back line of the property being 3/4 mile away from the house. Other plans are bush hogging, grinding stumps, woods roads maintenance, and snow removal. The property is 202 years old, and so far every wood product for the house, garage, and previous barn were all harvested from the property, we want to keep that tradition.

Where are you at?

I bought a Mahindra 1538 HST with cab (heat and ac) and loader 3 years ago. With a 5' brush hog it was $29k out the door. That's a 38hp. The HST robs a ton of power. If you are going to be doing a lot of mowing or using equipment or have step terrain, I'd get a shuttle shift.

The JD's are great machines, but I couldn't justify the money. Kubota was my first choice, but Mahindra had a 7 year warranty and 7 year zero interest promotion. That sealed the deal for me. It's been a great machine so far and I've pushed it pretty hard.

Right on, I haven't priced anything with a cab. I'm not used to those kinda comforts, might get lazy. I don't remember if the M or the R was the heavy duty model. I know I really liked the set up for reaching the controls, pedals, and wheel for me. I laid in there perfectly...arms, hands, knees, feet, and ass all seemed to line up perfect. The 5065 felt really small and enclosed with the pedals, controls and wheel. My knees kept hitting the shuttle shift handle and the loader control when i'd go for the clutch or break. I really hated the manual throttle control on the right fender forearm high. Everytime I turned to look around me, I'd hit that fucker and send the rpms right into the ketchup. To be fair, the seat was set up for an individual with less mass than I have, but anyone 6'3+ I think would hit their knees.

I have a Deere 4720, 5100E, 5525, 6420 and 6430. The 4720 probably gets the most use and is one of my favorites.
You can pick up a 4720 or 4520 with Cab/4wd and loader for around $30k, they are pre emission so nothing to worry about.
My 5100E and a skid steer are the only things I have with emissions on them, I havent had any issues, but I use my stuff pretty hard for hours at a time so they have no issues regening.

My local Kubota dealer really wants my business, their price looks appealing but Ive never been wild about their machines, and their parts availability sucks. Their equivalent to the 4720 was way too light, and the AC wouldnt cool the cab on a 75 degree day.

I recently bought a 2020 5065E with a loader. All I wanted was a loader for my 5210 but was going to spend more than the tractor was worth for the damn loader.
