Thinking about buying a toaster to drive

For that kind of money, find something you actually enjoy driving. Might very well be the Sentra, I've never driven one but I generally like Nissan stuff. My 6spd Frontier has been completely reliable.

I'm considering a Golf. Supposedly the sweet spot is a 2016-2018 with the 3rd gen 1.8T engine borrowed from Audi. One of the few cheap cars that doesn't came equipped with a turd under the hood.

#1 priority is no work needed, I do not think a 10 year Prius can do that.

I want to put in gas and pay for oil changes, that is it.

That's what made me get a Chevy Volt.
Electric cars are rock solid reliable, don't need oil changes and I don't have to go th gas pump as I just come home and plug it in.
The volt has a gas motor so it's a hybrid as I was scared that I could not go full electric, but after having it 4 years I'd jump to a full electric now.
All I use it for is going back and forth to work, it's great.

I just replaced a buddies OEM brake rotors at over 200K miles on his first gen prius.

they're fucking bulletproof.

that said, just go buy a fucking cheap ass kia/hyundai and drop it off at the dealer if it breaks.

if you run into the brakes groaning from having never been burnt in, all you gotta do to disable the regen braking is to pop it in neutral before braking
now you can get the brakes good and hot
was having a lot of comebacks before I figured that one out

that was in the fall and he hasn't bitched.

they brakes weren't actually worn out, they were just roached from rust and not being used. seized caliper pins and shit.

yup that's how they go up here too
they only seem to use the service brakes below 5mph or so, so they never get any heat into them to burn off the oil from manufacturing
thus they give you that "oil on the brakes" groaning if you don't make sure to beat the absolute fuck out of them at least once

The 30 aspect tires blow out very easy

The wheels on the car are way too fucking big
That was 2 of the times and the other 2 were me understanding that randomly the fuel gauge says it has more fuel in it than it does.

Now I full it up and reset the odo which has solved that issue.

The car itself runs really good

sounds like you should post up a wanted to trade for a set of stock wheels & tires.

To update this thread.

I, like most of us, feel that cars are more than just an appliance to get us around.

On paper a new $15k car sounds great, would do everything I need it to do

However, I love cars, I like shit with personality.

I started driving my Lexus again yesterday and I love it, it is a great car.

yes it has issues (many of them) but it looks great, drives awesome, has a projectwin level stereo system in it.

I am just going to drive it this year.

I used to check the tire pressure weekly and had no issues when I did that.

When I stopped is when I had tire issues.

The cars that interest me are $50k plus, I just do not think that makes sense with my plans.

We will see, I could change my mind.

I will say out of all the shitboxes discussed, the Kia Soul is the one I would get.

Thinking about buying a toaster to drive

Thoughts?

Daughter got a toaster. '06 Scion xB.

I also got one. It's white, has an ugly grille, and will eventually get down.

So I call it Toast Malone.

I replaced the blown rear tire on my GS300 and 2 days later that same one blew out while driving to work.

I was done.

I bought something, waiting for it to be delivered from Carvana.

It is not a toaster.

I did actually look at the Prius, did not like it at all.

I looked at the Corolla, I didn't hate it but it made me feel sad in the inside to think about driving it for the next few years.

I got something that was not as cheap as I wanted to spend but I think I will enjoy it.

fed up with low profile tire problems
trade one set of rubber bands for another much more expensive set of rubber bands

if you hadn't said you lived in a trailer I'd have /never/ guessed. :flipoff2:

Dale yeah!

i'd buy a 10 year old prius in a heartbeat, they don't get driven as much or as hard as most other cars and don't have as much shit to break. the single speed hybrid "CVT" is a sun/planet gear setup and not a belt CVT and is millions of times more durable

i put 377k miles on my last prius... it was fine. only changed oil and tires.

bought a new one, gave it to my daughter, mil got too old to drive and I bought her CRV from her. it is a toaster fo sho. But, saves miles on my pickup and I'm totally incognito in it. I like that.

Ya, no kidding, I skipped a few pages, but I'm lost.

"I had problems with the tires on my car so I bought a new car"

:flipoff2:

I will say, I agree on the corolla, the newer cheap cars I've sat in were so bland, it was depressing. Ie: ~2014 camry and ~2016 elantra.

I'm not sure how they made them so boring compared to 90s and early 2000s cars, which weren't exactly exciting.

You missed the part about the tires are just the icing on the cake.

if it was just a wheel problem I would gladly fix it.

The car is 22 years old

it has a ton of issues, almost all related to different computer moduals going bad.

Windows sometimes dont work

Fuel guage reads random

Temp gauge broken

A/C doesn't work

Locks dont work

and about the best of all the passenger door does not open.

TCU drops off and makes it shift so hard it feels like it is going to break the driveline.

It looks good, always liked that style.

I will say that the 2JZ engine is still as good as new and fucking purrs

Soooo, slap a big ass turbo on it and you forget about all that shit when you're roasting tires at every stop?

I LOVED my IS350 F Sport. I HATED the way it ate tires. They come out of the factory with positive camber and they have no camber adjustment. They'll eat up the inside edges of the tires in 10k miles and that's if you're not pushing it having fun and there's nothing you can do about it except keep buying tires.

customer had one, we'd flip the tires on the wheels side to side, as the outside of the tread would be untouched while the inside would be totally bald
still way stupid, and they're different f&r so you can't even do any sort of rotation
