Well I have officially started learning how to carve with a chainsaw. Not well mind you but if you set the bar low there is lots of room for improvement:lmao: Mainly doing small trees and one horrible bear attempt. Tomorrow I may try a salmon because why the fuck not.

Do you use a vice or something to keep the part from not shooting across the where ever you are working area?

I like the two little trees on the porch... and i feel the bear gould be decent if you put a million little grooves in it for hair.

Neat
Bear is a bit lopsided :lmao: I will fur it out for practice but it’s in hemlock anyways so shit wood just for practice. Once I can get the basics I will use some cedar for a bear. Trees and such are cedar.

Decent buttplugs! :flipoff2:
The bear looks better than some I've seen in people's yards though. :smokin:

do you use one of those attachments for an angle grinder?
I have a shaping disc from kutzall but it has eaten me twice so far. Like most death wheel accessories they give zero fucks if your wearing gloves or not. Putting it down for a bit. :homer: And I do have the saw chain wheel but haven’t used it.

Currently just using a MS250 with a Oregon dime tip bar and a dremel for the rounding of sharper corners that I am convinced I will destroy if I touch it with a saw again:lmao:

The swa chain wheel seems like a bad idea :homer:

I bought one at harbor freight a few years ago because a buddy and I decided to carve a large 🍆 as a birthday present for another friend. They will remove material in a hurry. It would not be fun to get bit by one.

In the shop & tools section there's a thread called safety tips or something. My brother posted a gif of his hand after a normal cutoff wheel hit it, I flinched when I saw the chain version in hf.

not bad, the shape of the bear looks about right, now you just need to add the detail

I walk away from it when I’m “stuck” and go look at pictures of other carved bears. Right now it’s finding time to do it as well. But 30 minutes to an hour here and there seems to be doable for now.

I dunno, the chain one probably wouldn't get as deep in you as the cutoff wheels do
pretty common to use a big 1/4" wide carbide toothed blade in an angle grinder while doing aluminum welding and repair

Props for doing it. I spend a lot of time camping on weekends in the summer and was thinking of doing something like that when I am out there. Prob very small scale and just use a Dremel. Please keep posting up your progress so I can steal ideas :cool2:

I have been bit by both a chainsaw and a grinder, still have the scars from both

I can't imagine getting bit from a chainsaw grinder:laughing:
