What's new

the youtube thread

Usually get bored and skip lots on woodworking videos, but I pretty much watched this one entirely, kept my attention.

I cannot imagine putting that much finnicky work into something that I'd probably fuck up on assembly (and it can't be disassembled without partial destruction).

this dude does good dairy farming videos, moved over from the netherlands because they were being communists over there
small channel, huge farm so it's pretty interesting and not as flashy as the bigger channels

This was a big thing where I live until the late 30's. We moved here when I was a little kid in the late 60's and there were countless pine tree stumps from the tapped trees. By then, there was not much left but the heart wood standing about 3-4' tall that was saturated with sap, it's called fat lighter (for those that don't know). In my very early teens, I would head out with an axe to bash the heart out of the downed trees that were everywhere. There were still quite a few with tin cans hanging on the nails but, most were dead or dying.
The trees that survived were stunted from the lack of sap flowing. They look like big bonsai trees with thick, gnarled and twisted branches.

I have a living one in my front yard that still has the nails in it, the tin cans are long gone. I'll post pictures tomorrow.

The nails are still there

They had just got started on the second side when the harvesting stopped.

Do we have a thread for Instagram videos?

Been watching a lot of this guy lately.

Yes, it's woodworking, but lots of his nuggets of wisdom apply elsewhere.
I like the format of the videos, they're fast paced and to the point, with a little humor.

I especially like the tricks to accurately scribe and mark and cut when you can't see shit because you're fucking old.

Reminds me of some of the old timers I learned from. Usually they were miserable old bastards that nobody liked, but if you stuck it out and befriended them and was patient and listened you could really learn a lot.

I grew up working for people like that, I count my blessings often for the lessons:beer:

The thing he doesn't mention is what bothers me the most. Whatever you're building is only as square as the parts you build it with! I don't care about the fence, it won't force something to be square.

This youtube Japanese knife thing is fucking crazy... I have been to Japan many times and the Tokyo fish market (now closed to gwakers). Had a chance to buy some knifes; fucking kicking myself in the ass for not doing so! :smokin::smokin::smokin::smokin:

There's some cool stuff in this video. I like the tire chains/grousers and the steering and the dual giant front fairleads.

I know this isn't a lot of you guys cup of tea. This impressive Integra belongs to a local guy. He daily drives it in the summer, and drives it to local drags strips, races it, then drives it home.
