The thread for everything you wanted to know about mormons and were afraid to ask

Lived amongst them since late 97.
Toured the downtown temple - at least what a regular person can access, it was a neat thing to visit.

Other than that I do what I do, let them do what it is that they do.
Not a fan about sums it up.

Just my experience... It's a cult devout to a misguided prophet of Joeseph Smith. All desires lead towards being a God of their own universe and sexual impurities are a major driver.

Let's talk about how the visions came to him, and Moroni. Jesus's brother, the reemergence of polygamy, the vast corruption of the modern day Mormon doctrine... it's a long list homie. Sure ya want to go there?

In fact, let's start with the Pearl of great price. Or Kolob...

And here's the issue... when people more knowledgeable are down for discussion, but the guy instigating the discussion on a hack prophet checks out.

Joeseph Smith wasn't a prophet, nor was Brigham Young. They were merely twisted men that desired a warped addition to the COMPLETE word of God by way of "The book of Mormon".

eh, just pick and choose the parts you like what will conform with how you are already comfortable living and generally go on out and be a good dude :flipoff2: it makes life eaiser

pshaw, as if god said everything he had to say to a bunch of desert wanderers and then was simply done a couple thousand years ago is pretty closed minded.

you are being spoken to every day and in every way, be receptive to more than just some ramblings collected over the years

The issue I have is it's complete mockery of biblical text in order to satisfy a need of individuals to become their own God. It's a complete farce and a lie.

But hey, that's been the original sin since the fall of man.

How about this rambling?

Revelation 22:18

"I testify to everyone who hears the words of prophecy in this book: If anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book."

Makes it pretty clear... don't add, leave it alone.

Proof that it is a collection and work of man, self justification to give a sense of validity

Sure, it's a complimentary reading to expound on ideas which are incomplete in the historic text.

Man madr it thousands of years with only half the Bible and much success, now we are nearly double that time claiming the old text is fulfilled? No dice. Prophets appear every half millenia or so, as man requires constant correction. To believe God has gone static is to freeze growth, which is anti nature and therfore anti god

Of course men penned it. The inspired word of God was in fact written down by men and their accounts of what took place. Not denying that.

However... when ol Joe Smith comes along 1800 years later and decides one day to pen another doctrine, completely off base from anything in the bible, I will speak up and call it for what it is. Deception.

False prophets appear all the time as well... and we are told to be vigilant. Aren't we?

Mathew 7:15

"Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves."

The book of Mormon is a completely different gospel... in fact it isn't even a gospel at all. It's a fabrication written by a man who wanted to fulfil his desires to have power, bang little girls, have multiple wives and be his own God. It just isn't truthful. It's an outright lie.

The inspired word of God, as found by the gnostic codifiers of the day, at a time when they needed protection of a higher document and Power to spread their influence and control.

Not at all different from Smith finding the inspiration and words of god

Uh huh...

What makes a prophet false? The actions or the words or simply if you disagree? Mormon wars aside, followers of the latter day saints are a far cry from ravenous wolves on the souls of man. What they've been revealed in the additional text is a message of preparedness and guidance on brotherhood. This transfers into real world skills far better than whatever passes for christiandom to most people of the latest funny hat at the Vatican seeking to control your life and livelihood

John write that around 95 AD. The Muratorian Canon was compiled around 300 AD. People chose individual books about Christ and compiled them to make the Bible. What’s your point?

Don't make this any harder for me than it needs to be, I'm trying not to write a scathing 1500 word paper for college and taking a break :flipoff2:
Are you Mormon? Do you belong to the LDS?

If you are, well then just own it... Let's have an honest discussion.

Two things:
1. The book of Revelations was NOT written as the final book in what we now know as the Bible, that was compiled hundreds of years later.
2. Does that mean that God can't send additional revelations to guide his people through his chosen leaders as he sees fit?

Aaron Z

God already explained the ending for us, Mormons paint a very different picture... so it's either false doctrine or the bible is wrong. There's a choice to make there. They do not and can not coincide.

God said a prophet can not lie, ergo if Smith has a different doctrine (not even close to God's word) he is in fact a liar and a false prophet.

Correct me if I am wrong and show me otherwise. I am open to the discussion, but I need to see it.

And it's the book of Revelation, there's no plural. It refers to the Revelation of Christ.
