The Cream Pie - A 2005 Tundra Build

It doesn't look fun but your truck is badass!
You lost me at overland:)

Trip report: Northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado is an amazing part of the country. Weather was amazing and a welcomed relief from the 100% humidity here in Houston. We made it to a little over 11000ft elevation and put about 150 miles of backroads on the Tundra. Only issues i had on the trip was a bad radiator cap. Everything else was flawless. Man, i cant wait to go back. Even did a little snow wheeling in some snow banks thats were blocking the trails still.

Heavy load.

Damn that looks like a good trip.

Is your ram a 2500 or 3500? Coil or leaf rear?

Pulls it just fine. No bags or anything in the back. Got 9.3mpg round trip even with an awful headwind for 12 hours on the way back. With the tundra in the back, the tongue weight isn’t as bad as when my buggy is on there but it isn’t light by any means.

Huh. When I was shopping I was led to believe hauling heavy with the coils wasn’t ideal, both from the squat / payload and because the shimmy of the rear traveling in an arc

Good to know. Sweet setup you have.

The coils seem to hold tongue wieght fine, but aren't good for wieght up higher, like a cab over or lumber on a rack. Ram put the coils pretty far in.

Can confirm this. I put a truck camper on for one day and I felt like it was going to roll over around every turn.

Friend did the same with his 16, the good thing is the coils being inside the frame means air bags go outside the frame and make a huge difference.
After 190k miles on this thing, ive never needed air bag when towing any trailer i have. It does squat or sway. Ive been very happy with the coils. Rides great unloaded as well.

very rad truck, I've thought about building one of these for a long time, great platform, even with the original v8
