What's new

Tell me about Idaho. Thinking about moving...

just look at the once red cities that had large growth spurts... and notice many are now Blue.

yeah but i'm not sure that is driven by CA migration, or else how could we possibly explain the way that CA has transformed from red to possibly purple to deep blue? there isn't enough NY migrants coming in to upset that balance and i'd wager strongly that the CA foreign migration isn't resulting in direct voting power

this is why I think Oregon is so attractive. Spokane isn't really great because it is still stuck in WA and seattle has more than 10 years before it collapses, despite their best efforts :rasta:

if only the OR codes weren't so abusive, and in the grand scheme they really aren't "that" bad.

And multi colored haired fuck wits who actually did learn to drive are not qualified to pump their own gas just like in new jersey.

It seems many people who grew up in the last decade in cities, vote blue. Not basing that on any real research, but I'd bet that's true.

Also lots of universities are dark dark blue and many of the kids are brainwashed into thinking the same. Could have an effect of population booms resulting in cities turning blue.

Speaking of migration, what about foreign immigrants? Many of those people are led to believe "orange man bad" if bet a lot of of population booms have a significant amount of South of the boarder immigrants.

Have yet to meet a single California ( or Nevada) transplant in Idaho that fits the liberal narrative talked on here. Not one. A few that don't like Trump for personal reasons but California ideologues, no way. The urban growth, the growth in general is inevitable, but will cycle through. More people bitching about other people than any real substance. Don't blame Boise on California. Look in the mirror.

This attitude is exactly the problem. The people who leave states like CA might not be "bleeding heart liberals". They might even have decent opinions on a couple things. They are still Californians full of Californian culture and California observations about how the world works and that's the shit that really poisons a free state. The "good ones" aren't "good". There's no such thing.

True. I have lived in ID, WA, CA, MT, CO 2Xs, AZ 3Xs, NM, UT, TX, SD. Funny to listen to Californians say they are not he problem and when the live in those states, the residents swear the locusts from Cali is the problem. I can easily bring up facts about living in N. ID and my daughter was only 1 of 2 kids who were NOT from Cali. I can bring up the facts of the crimes we had in N ID was almost nothing to full blown everything they have in Cali after they invaded. How do I know? I was an Arson Fire Investigator in N ID. I arrested lots of Californians for arson. They tried to do the same thing there they got by with in Cali. Californians ARE locusts. That is a fact. Ask the Texans, Idaho residents. Colorado residents. That is a FACT. The Cali mindset is shit. It brings shit. It is shit.

As a Coloradan, the influx from Cali is noticeable. However, the Texan influx is also a problem and Texas isn't as red of a state as they like to claim.

Currently 8 of my customers here in Placer county have sold their houses in the last 6 months and moved to idaho. It'll be the new CA in a decade's time

Idaho was on my short list of places I was looking at moving to, but ultimately ruled it out on winter weather, income tax, and how terrible high speed internet availability is. The influx of Californians had a lot to do with it as well. Texas at least has the population to stave off their bullshit for a few more decades, but ID doesn't.

yup, the drive to the city model and the state dependence that it creates are the issues. Californians are not why Boise has an open socialist elected official or why Richmond VA has one as well.

Richmond and VA are so fucked in general it's not even funny. I'm fucking out when my lease is up in November. This whole state can kiss my ass. This state is so fucked that the least corrupt Democrat in office is a fucking convicted pedophile, felon, and disbarred lawyer.

VA might not be full of Californians, but it's sure as shit full of dumb motherfuckers from all over NJ, NY, and New England who have completely fucked state politics, the job market, and the housing market in this state. I've lived here for 32 years and never thought I'd leave, but I can't get out of here fast enough at this point.

And you're full of shit. Most people leaving places like Cal. want to be AWAY from the bullshit that's going on here and absolutely don't want the place they move to to turn into Cal.
All you're doing is looking for a boogey man to blame for your own problems.

I'm sure they do. Yet somehow every place they go to starts looking a lot like CA. Coincidence? It's happened at least three times with three more in the works. The fact of the matter is that something is wrong with these people whether they know it or not.

ya, it sounds like the weather is similar to here, but probably better.

We are at 8500 feet in elevation and got 239" of snow last season.

Looks like much if not all of Idaho is lower in elevation.

Hows the humidity? Any wildfire danger? etc?

Lower elevation but a lot higher in latitude. Like the other poster said, outside of summer sunshine can be few and far between which will be a big shock coming from sunny Colorado. It's in the mountain west, so yeah there's fire danger. Not as high as CO, but still ever present.

Everyone has an opinion, I just think yours is wrong and lacks any real evidence.

Maine's pretty sweet! That state definately flies under the radar. I could see portland being antifa central though, hipster ridden when I visited.

i've got a couple of buddies that retired from the army and went to maine, they all love it. as much as i hate on the NE USA, there's a couple of those county sized states that are actually worthwhile. couldn't sell the wife on the east coast though

edit: portland has long been antifa, but that is part of what make portland and oregon weird. they host extremists from everywhere, it's a strange dynamic

Portland maine is what I was talking about. My wife and I are not fans of the east coast as well, but maine was an awesome trip and beautiful country.

Now I'm just waiting for the company I interviewed with in NC to call me back with an offer LOL!!

 sorry, i've got the other portland on my mind.

anywhere but Chicago is going to be awesome :smokin:

Went to school in Moscow. North Idaho is pretty great. Tough thing for me was the wages in my industry aren't as great there as they are on the coast.

You also can't use a broad brush on Idaho as far as weather/seasons. Southern Idaho has a lot of high desert, but North Idaho gets a lot more rainfall and precip. In-fact, North Idaho has the Inland Temperate rainforest. Weather also varies by topography, south facing slopes really dry and warm, north facing slopes cool and wet.

Like said, internet speeds are going to be a problem anywhere rural, but Bonner county is getting pretty developed so might be getting better?

Of course, there is the North Idaho Mud And Crawl in Bonner County which should get an honorable mention on a wheeling site.

Gotta go with the cretan of San Diego on this. Bullshit. People leave Cali to get away and make their vote count. And a shit load of other reasons. No one has to justify shit to anyone. There are always ****s that bitch about anything, Dont be a ****. :flipoff2: And just for the **** of it, do you have any idea how many shitloads of liberals moved here in the last 20 years ? This state in my recent memory voted by popular vote, by referendum, to limit public schools to US citizens and to define marriage as a man and a woman. We are Butch Otter Bitch

what were their professions?

One is my former boss. He took the 7 figures I gave him when I bought the company and is buying land out there to build a house next year.

the others are all older couples who are retired as well, at least that I can tell.

my best friend and his gf are trying to buy property out in sand point. They are both welders (35 and 30 years old)

And to the OP. We hit 1 deg F first week of April. Let that soak in. And -28 Jan 2017. Colder than the North slope by a wide margin.

I'm guessing your far north? Like priest lake or Bonners ferry?

2019 we were in spirit lake, Cocolalla, cda, ect in April and were in t shirts some days.

So what is the up and comming place where everyone is moving? Somewhere I may be able to buy a property that would make a nice vacation spot but will gain 300% in value over the next 10 years? Similar to what's happening in Utah right now

for some stupid reason, my tax basis for my little bit of nowhere in idaho has doubled over the year that i've owned it. so no, not idaho. i'm trying to keep prices down.

outside reno/sparks, though they are already on the up and up. seems like midwest might have the easier upsides

Where? I want to buy a place with 2 units and a shop so I can rent 1 to you for cheap and keep the other for myself.

Your not helping take advantage of your ability to make 75% of my mortgage payment :flipoff2:

Greater cda and Sandpoint area.

As mentioned, prices are already up.

We have friends who bought a new 4/3 in minden (Gardnerville) a few years ago for $325 or so, it's at like $50 right now.

That whole area has blown up.
