Somewhat shady life hacks

In Reno at the bars in a casino you can drink for free while playing video poker.
There is a light that comes behind the bar where it tells the bartender that you are not playing anymore and don't get a drink.
Tip the bar tender to tell you when you need to put another $1 into the game in order to keep sitting there drinking.
Forget the $1 machines, just park your ass at the nickel poker and toss down 12 Heinies while losing less than $10.

Amateurs! Grind the body's off the rivets and superglue the heads to the tag. A little 2 sided tape and your in business.

I had 2 broncos sharing for a while. Even got pulled over and the cop checked the dash tag. Soon after that I decided it was not a good idea.......

do they make 3/4 ton DRW trucks?
I know centurion made a few fords back when ford weren't doing 4wd F350s for like two years in the late '80s
85 through 87 you are correct. They made 250 TTB TIB dualy’s bull nose and brick nose.

That might be a little beyond "Somewhat Shady" since its a felony in nearly every state.

Well, you can thank Komifornias wonderful smog laws for all that fuckery. If they didn't have such ridiculous laws, people wouldn't have to resort to such measures to get by.

Bro, you knock the center of the rivets out, crimp them with round wire crimping pliers and knock them out. Disassemble new pop rivets put the pin in the old rivet and reinstall them.

Toyota dash tags are riveted into plastic. A black paint pen and a pocket knife would probably work to swap them back and forth between several different trucks. If you were to do that. Which would be illegal and not recommended.

Yeah don't do it it's illegal to move a small piece of metal FROM A PIECE OF YOUR OWN LEGALLY OWNED PROPERTY TO ANOTHER PIECE OF YOUR LEGALLY OWNED PROPERTY. :shaking: So don't swap vin numbers around.

That will be a massive red flag to any cop that checks. If they see that they will go looking for the other locations. Based on what you wheel I think it's safe to assume that you live somewhere without salt, in which case they will find the other VINs.

If you are the last registered owner of both vehicles you might get away with just a ticket.

Regardless, you should just make a duplicate of the plate and rivet them on with something close to OEM.
You were doing great until the last line where you suggested something even more illegal.

We both know the one that passes the cop's road side sniff test is a hell of a lot better than the one that doesn't even if it's the more expensive crime.

Anyone trying to make one registration tied to one VIN fit two different models of vehicles is fighting a losing battle.

So just because it's a felony it must be bad? Talk about outsourcing critical thinking to the .gov :shaking:

It's a felony because people would do it to make stolen car not stolen. But there isn't anything shady about doing it on junk you own in the clear.

You must not understand how the law works. Yes, being charged with a felony would be bad. No one is going to care that you think its not morally wrong to commit a certain crime. Maybe you could try that stupid line on the judge at your sentencing hearing. Not a fan of being charged with a crime that can end your rights to vote and possess a firearm. Taking a chance switching VINs between vehicles just doesn't seem like its worth the risk and is not really thinking critically.

Wasn't there some silly claim that the average person commits x amount of felonies per day/week or something?
I never bought into it, but still remain a little curious about the claim.

If the law/tax/regulatory codes are hundreds of thousands of pages, how do you even know?.

I have done it a few times when I can get bulk pricing on amazon. Buy 2 or 3 items to get it cheaper and then I request a return saying the extra ones I don't need are damaged in shipping. Works everytime and you keep the cheaper bulk price on the 1 you kept.

I "knew a fella" that had 2 boats on trailers and a utility trailer and only one tag. It was pretty easy to just undo 2 7/16 nuts and bolts and putting the tag on which one "he" happen to be using that day.

He did it for many years. 3 trailers and only one hitch that could be used at a time. Just don't hook up and take off to go fishing without your tag in a hurry, that was a fun day

I don't think YOU understand how the law works.

When you get charged with some inflated bullshit because you technically violated some law you pay $300-$1500 to a lawyer and it gets reduced to some violation with a fine on approximately the order of magnitude it should be. For VIN plate fuckery on vehicles the state's database thinks you own you can probably expect to pay ~3x whatever your state's fine for no registration is and walk away without even a misdemeanor. Heck, you might not even need to show up in court.

That said, if the cop is inspecting your VIN on the side of the road you have already fucked up big time, clearly don't know how to act around representatives of "the system" and will probably make an ass out of yourself in court.

If you violate a high order misdemeanor or low order felony law primarily used for revenue (e.g. get a dui on a bike/canoe/lawnmower) then multiply those numbers by 10 and expect a misdemeanor.

The law is not a set or rigid rules. It's a set of fuzzy rules that the enforcement drones and courts (assuming the matter is brought before them) interpret with their discretion.

Home depot used to sell Dewalt 12" compound slider/mitre saws for 599 and you got a 150 stand of your choice for free. You could return them separately and get full credit for each. We got to the point that print up an LOI and buy 3, then send my brother in and return 3 saws, then id return 3 stands at another store. Inc tax, BAM next kit is free. Wash rinse repeat. Not remotely even against their return policy, but definitely contrary to the spirit of the sale.

They most likely prorate the prices on the receipt now.

Same thing kind of works with their "buy a battery kit, get a cordless tool for free" sales. Usually you buy a $100 battery/charger or a drill kit and you get one bare tool for free. The receipt will prorate the prices for each and you can return one or the other. Good way to get a $100 bare tool for $50.

They've completely changed their policy now to either pro-rated or receipt. They also hired a 3rd party to track returns by DL.

So they have fixed some of that on many sales, but you can still take advantage of it. They give each piece a "Return Value". Lets say a drill is normally $250 and a battery is normally $75. They go on sale that if you buy the drill for $200 you get the battery for free. They will assign a return value of say $150 for the drill and $50 for the battery. If you don't need the drill you can still buy the pack, return the drill and you still get $25 discount on the battery. Over on GJ they talk about when you have a choice of different tools which of them have the highest return or resale value

Not shady - in fact it help prevent some shady shit. When you go to the grocery store just say you forgot your discount card or punch in a friends/exs/etc phone number. Still get the sales but don't have their creepy analytics tracking you.

Another one - don't do the change of address form with the USPS when you move. Just update all the things that matter. They sell those change of address lists and doing one will actually increase the amount of junk mail you get.

Doctor did a crappy job and doesn't want to give you your xrays, records, etc - File a HIPAA complaint with the HHS. A big part of HIPAA was record portability and the rights to access your records. Worst case it helps move things along, best case they get investigated and you get a reward for the report.

Many places offer price drop protection, you just have to do the legwork. Buy a TV for $500, next week it goes on sales for $400. Many places will refund the $100 if you ask at CS. Amazon used to, but doesnt anymore after some people wrote apps that did it automatically. But B&M stores will to prevent the cost of you returning and rebuying. Sometime its a trick to get sale items before they sell out - just buy before the sale. Have to be very careful now, many places wised up and sell a special version with a different PN or package to prevent this.

Go outside every couple weeks and fire a few random shots into the ground. Helps keep property values and taxes low.

Speaking of returning shit...

Our local Costco ended up revoking the membership of a whole bunch of people who were abusing the return policy. It was fucking unreal the shit I would see stacked up at returns on a visit. Snowblowers and winter tires and the like in the spring, lawn equipment in the fall. Boxing day had stacks of x-mas trees and furniture.

I should got a pic of the time I saw four or five dot indians all lined up in a row returning lawnmowers in late Oct.
