What's new

So paying someone to do brakes on all 4 corners just costs $1k these days.

Everything is more expensive. Car parts and labor, too. But if it was the dealer or in a high CoL area, that is about right.
It was a local shop in Charleston West Virginia 3 or 4 mechanic's plus the owner he runs the shop his wife takes care of the office.

huh 20% of that is shipping.
2 things I dislike about RockAuto that they only offer up to 5% discount and shipping’s speed & costs.

I’ve found that it’s cheaper to buy parts from advance auto, summit racing, and similar as they usually offer free shipping. I like advance auto as they offer free shipping at only over $35 vs many others at $100+ to qualify free shipping. RockAuto’s shipping is rapey when items are either large or heavy.

Friend of the family has 2007 Hyundai sonata paid $900 .00 for brakes front and rear.
Can we get some clarity?
New rotors and pads?
Turn the rotors and new pads?
Full caliper rebuild in the mix?

It doesn't seem like anyone is making apples to apples comparisons without this clarity.

I’ve found RockAuto shipping to be fairly reasonable if the items ship from the same warehouse. $12.99 to ship a torque converter which I didn’t think was unreasonable. It arrived in 2 days.

Agreed. I've beaten RA's pricey locally when you factor in shipping on heavy items like rotors.

It make a lot of sense to price shop VS ra most of the time. It's very often not the best after shipping.

And if you're buying heavy things like brakes and rotors along with somewhat fragile things like spark plugs, do NOT buy (in a single order) from RA. Pretty much guaranteed the fragile items are going in the same box as the crushinators.

Still ended up $100 cheaper than O'Reilly, including free shipping and 20% off

$600 for "the works" on a GMT900 wonton cab and chassis using the cheapest combination of parts available. $900 if I wanna use Amazon. And 8 fucking hours of shop labor. That's a grand right there at $120+/hr shop labor rates.
