So I finally tried a brushless setup in a crawler......

Holy shit is it awesome so far.

All these years I liked the idea of a cheap motor since they get so much abuse in a crawler.

I burnt up a cheap 5 pole brushed motor and decided to finally give one of the 5 pole Holmes Hobbies motors a try. Got a crawl master 12t 550 (which is a $110 motor ) . Seemed slightly better than the cheap 5 pole. But stopped working after like 15 mins. After a fiasco of assuming it was the esc, ordering a new esc, figuring out it wasn't, ect. I started googling and came across lots of people talking up the hobby wing fusion pro 2300kv.

It's sweet that it's a self contained unit and totally waterproof, plus is not all that expensive either.

So far I've only tested in the garage, but the ability to barely crawl forward while still having crazy torque is leaps and bounds better than any brushed motor I've ever had. Then it has way more pep up top as well.

Crawled with this a little bit last night, it's definitely a game changer.

The FOC is really sweet the way it gives full tq but maintains a constant speed.

Do it, it's the best thing I've ever done to any rc.

Be aware, it does not fit in the capra. You can sand the link mount, but then it snaps off. Fortunately there are skid plate kits that will work. I went with a Vader flat belly kit, it seems decent. Comes with fullsize dig servo mounts too.

So don't leave the battery plugged in, even if it's turned off, apparently it will draw the battery down to zero

I put a Furitek brush-less in my "Almost No Stock Parts" UTB18 build (used the stock skid-plate) after trying a Holmes/Castle combo in the 1/10th Capra. I had an all stock UTB18 and did the brush-less conversion on the 1/10th. Once I get a receiver that will bind with the GT5 in the 90's Schumacher CAT it too will go brush-less.

I get some shit from a buddy of mine for running the Fusions in 3 of my rigs. He spends way too much money on whatever FB says is the greatest crawler ESC and motor available.

After driving his, I'll stick to my $90 Fusion SE setups.
