What's new

Slowpoke attempts to kill himself in a golfcart!

I ordered a front frame/lower control arm mount stiffener kit from Super ATV last week that should be here today. I was going to build my own but with how cheap the kit is I decided to skip that project.

I need to find a shop in the DFW area to make me a pair of door skins and a roof. I have ZERO talent when it comes to sheetmetal work. I was thinking either Tribe 4x4 or one of the race car chassis places. Anybody got another suggestion?

I also noticed while I had it torn down that the fuel line and routing is a joke! They used some weird 90° elbows in a couple spots on a flexible hose and also routed it all the way around the motor to go from pump to fuel rail exposing it to a bunch of unnecessary heat. I'm all set with having my car catch on fire due to a shitty design so i went ahead and ordered EFI fittings, AN hose ends and some braided hose to replace whats there. Should have all that crap in a few days.

Also ordered a set of Raceco USA Radius rods and a front shock tower brace from them as well. More wicked nice stuff!! :smokin:

Couple weekends ago I stripped it down and painted the chassis semi gloss black again. Its no powder coating job but came out decent for spraying tube... The brush on job I did previously, SUCKED BIG BALLS so I redid it with a gun.

I made a giant mess of the floor painting the chassis. Figured it would just sweep up once it was dry but that wasn't the case, AT ALL. Did some Googling and ended up grabbing some TSP from the hardware store, and went to town on the floor after work. Splashed it on, scrubbed it with a stiff bristle broom and squeegeed it out. Came out fucking mint.

Ordered some Hoosier SxS Short Course tires for it last week. Did some research and found out there are two different styles of Hoosiers made for these. They have 27.5 x 8 x 15 P1000 tires for the production class and also 27.5 x 8 x 15 Turbo SxS tires. The "turbo" size ends up being 1" more tread, 1" more section width and a stiffer sidewall vs the P1000 tire. I ordered 5 of the Turbo spec tires in the M500 compound to play with. :smokin:

Ordered a set of GMZ Wheels 15x8 Casino beadlocks in bronze to go along with the tires. IMO these are some of the better made SxS beadlocks out there that don't cost stupid money. Wheel, ring, bolts and valve stem weigh 18.4lbs each.

I got some of the chassis put back together the other night before the wife and I left for vacation. Im really starting to like how this is coming out. I can't wait to drive this motherfugger again!!

Dumb question, I know. But are your new reservoir caps going to have a schrader valve? No idea why Fox did that bizarre needle setup or whatever, but it would be kinda nice to have a schrader. I ask as a Fox owner that leaks a little oil, and that doesn't know how to check the gas pressure in the shock.

Yes, they have shraders in the new caps. The stock caps with that needle setup is just about the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Half of them leak nitrogen before they even make it on the machine at the factory.

These are from Schmidty Racing. They make them for the Fox 2.0 & 2.5 UTV shocks. Easy to install and fairly inexpensive.

YotaAtieToo .... Change of plans with the wheels/tires.

Decided to try something different than what everyone else is running. The track im going to race at is all clay with a cushion (like a dirt track) in the corners. In my mind its a road course with jumps and whoops. I decided to run 4 wide ass Hoosier dirt tires and 15 x 8 wheels with zero offset all around to widen it up a bit. Im going to run the suspension fairly low, a big swaybar and have a ton of drop out built into the shocks so it performs like a Pro 2/4 truck suspension rather than a monster truck. If it all works according to plan I should gain a huge advantage in the corners being able to go faster through them than the monster trucks out there. Hopefully.....

Hold on here, I’ve been following this since the beginning. when you say “short course” do you mean circle track? That looks like an oval track car setup. Are you going to do both? Or is this setup for the SXS equivalent of super moto? Do you still plan on jumping this low rider?

Short course track like the LOORRS Pro 2 & 4 trucks run. Has lefts and rights, jumps and whoops and is watered and groomed. Like the track at Crandon. You don't need a ton of ground clearance like in the desert on this type of track. Like I stated previously... In my mind I'm racing on a clay road course with jumps and a whoop section. So why wouldn't low and wide, with a BIG sway bar and a bunch of drop out travel work? Depending on how I groove (legal to do) the tires, I should be able to create a bunch of forward "bite" and still be able to slide it around in the turns without bicycling it. I'm not going to run it as low as the above pictures. Skid plate is 8.5" in those pics. It will be more like 10" to 10.5" when its ready to roll onto the track. Ive been to every race this year checking out my competition to figure out ways to outsmart them. Its amazing what racers are willing to tell you when they think your just some random dude there to watch the races.... :lmao:

SxS short course racing is huge down here. Texplex pays $1200 to win in the Pro class, and $40,000 to win the championship. I want some of that money!

Man, I wish there was something like that anywhere Near me. Miller Motorsports park in Toele Utah was pretty cool but it’s in transition right now.

Ya, I got lucky when I moved here. Guys travel from all around the country to race there and its 45min from my house. :smokin: And as a added bonus, with a yearly membership I can practice there 7 days a week all winter if I want to. I plan on killing a few sets of tires getting my car dialed in to that track, before the first points race January 9th.

Shitty FB video of a Talon ripping around on a short course.

I watch that video once a week to keep me motivated. :grinpimp:

Forgot to post this stuff earlier...

Got the header wrapped and the new HMF exhaust installed. Also while i was back there i installed the new Eibach adjustable sway bar and American Star Mfg. cromo sway bar links.

X8" wide huh

Why do they say 8 when it's obviously more like 13"?

Got me?

I don't understand it either. The Turbo spec tire is clearly built on a 10" wide carcass, while the P1000 spec tire is an 8" carcass. Tread and section width #'s don't lie. Why not call it what it is?

Age old tire question

So why do they have tires for the 2 different classes if you can just run the better ones anyway?

Are they bias?

Another thing I had to change was the pedals. Stock they are so fucking high off the floor it doesn't even make sense. Also, they put the gas and brake 90 miles apart. First I pie cut the gas pedal arm and moved it down several inches. That put the gas pedal in an appropriate location, and now "floored" is actually to the floor.

For the brake pedal i screwed the clevis all the way down on the rod which helped lower the pedal some but it was still to far over. Solved that problem by heating up the arm and taking the bend out. I was about to cut the pad off and reweld it on straight but decided to test it out first. It ended up being comfortable in that position and gives me more room to rest my left foot. Win win in my book. Shit is staying like that.

My track doesn't have tire rules. I think the LOORRS short course series does though. Must be something to do with them.

Ya, bias ply tires.

Bias are so much fun to slide around with. They're so predictable. You can just slide a little or a lot depending on how much you want the ass in to kick out, they never just break free.
