Sherman the '81 Pickup

Fwiw
I have had professional "rear end" shops fail at 200% of the job of setting up toyota 3rds.
Dropped off 2, 1 low pinnion,1 high pinnion.
There was zero preload on either pinnion and the high pinnion they put the arb port @6 o clock...
Funny the name was
"The rearend shop"
In sant rosa ca...
Allways a crapshoot paying for professional service these days...

Same here. Last one had my samurai 3rd so tight it damaged the bearings spinning it with a drill for 20 seconds. "it'll break in" :homer:

To be fair, the drill probably makes similar power to the 1.3 though

The last diffs I took to him were 8 inch 4cyl thirds and 1 lasted 9 years, the other is just starting to make noise after all this time. I'll probably end up selling this e locker and get a high pinion 8 inch rather than re gear it.

Good call, elockers are not worth swapping into anything.

Always best to do it yourself if you have any mechanical skills. It's really not difficult if you do some research and take your time.

The Rubicon run that wasn't supposed to be a shake down run but ended up being a shake down run went great.

Nothing of mine broke. The XJ on 32s snapped an axle shaft, one dodge bent a tie rod which brake a hydro assist fitting, and the Grand Cherokee bent and axle and they didn't find out until it locked up on them on the freeway drive home.

The rear axle did well. None of the tube welds leak. The Aussie Locker is noisy as fuck but seemed to work fine. The 4.7 gearset is a better ratio for me than the 2 2.28s. Also the 63s rode great and I actually like them better than the f150 springs. They feel softer but don't lack the load capacity like 3 f150 springs did.

I'm terrible at taking pictures of the exciting stuff. Just too busy having a good time.

Lastly, got to fly my FPV drone that I built around Buck Island which was awesome.

Saw you guys meeting up at the Target parking lot in Placerville. Glad you had a good trip!
