Security cameras

That system for $850 is probably bad ass though. 8 4k cameras and a 4TB HD, depending on how recording quality that might not be as many days of storage as you might want with 8 4k cams though.
I get about 8.5 days of recorded storage with all eight 4K cameras set to the max resolutions. It's basically what I ended up with after upgrading my original NVR and adding cameras. I would have been money ahead by buying that $850 system from the get-go.

Been happy with Lorex. Had at my old place, never connected to the web, worked great.

Bought a fancier black friday sale Lorex system that I am getting setup now that the weather is warmer. You get what you pay for regarding the cameras.

I have heard you can log in a view remotely without the cloud, but not sure. Want to be able to do that...need to figure it out.

I was given a swann system to try out.
It's somewhat better. Definitely better at night. But I think I found a problem. When setting the resolution it wouldn't let me pick 2 or 4k because my monitor wasn't compatible.. I think I should start with a better monitor

If you can set up a Wireless Access Point or Relay, could you use a solar powered camera?

I have three of these running at different locations and they are a quality unit - the collector is metal and glass - no cheap plastic. Event recording is limited to about 60 seconds, can use IR or LED light (super bright) at night.

At the very end I have plenty of sunlight for solar but further back is questionable. I guess I could set up multiple cameras looking up and down the driveway.

Is set-up easy for a non computer nerd type?

Have mostly stand alone cameras some color and some B&W with also seperate lenses some have auto iris and zoom and focus others as their setup.

Have IR light source that makes the B&W camera see in the dark, can watch all of the critters running around at night.

Have some kick ass telephoto lenses up to 350x that run on 24vac with seperate controllers.

You just described me. Lol!
After installing the cameras, and wiring, the rest of the install was simple enough to get it up and running. I haven't bothered with linking it up to the computer and setting up the remote access.

Using these mounting boxes made the camera install a lot easier. There are several connectors coming off of the camera that don't fit through a small drilled hole. The boxes give it a good water resistant place for them to sit. Makes the install much simpler for under $15 per camera.

Anybody run the vosker v300’s? Fits my wireless, no internet requirement but man are they spendy.

Necro thread bump because we have enough security camera threads. Been running a Night Owl system but the hard drive shit the bed and it doesn’t record anymore. Live view still works fine. Night owl has new ones for $200-$300 but I have seen others just using a replacement hard drive for like $100 and its several terabytes as well. Anyone have an experience with replacing Night Owl hard drives?

And payment for a stupid question.

We just had the control box and hard drive for an existing system die.
Honywell cameras, wires system. Six cameras installed.
I got the Night owl system that includes a 2 TB drive (Actually 1.8 TB, Liars) from amazon for $280. was here the next day.
App for your phone to set up and monitor.
Took maybe 15 minutes included the box downloading the new firmware when set up.
I still haven't downloaded the actual user manual so I don't know how to get a file off the drive if I need it for anything.
But picture quality is good.
Old box had wires for sound. I don't see a sound input on this, but again I haven't downloaded the full manual yet either.

I changed my hdd around Xmas cause I dropped the nvr (running) off a 6' shelf :homer:
It was really easy to do, pretty much plug and play.

drives have never and will never format to their full capacity.

it's a difference in how drive capacity and partition table math works. Drive manufacturers sell based on decimal numbers, partition tables work in binary numbers.

You’re one of our resident computer experts. Have you any input good sir?

So is everyone doing POE?
God, I don't want to get into my attic and pull a cat5 cable.... how bar are the wireless ones? I'd rather get a ladder and charge batteries every month.

I little more pricey than some of the options, but I have been very happy with my ubiquity system. Everything is stored locally. No monthly fees. Alerts are on point, I rarely get a false alert and it just plain works. I was sick of fighting with my cheap cobbled together system.

There was no way I could run cables to the cameras I wanted. Nope.

I wound up with a Eufy wireless camera system. Does what I need it to do with great resolution and night vision. Plus depending on how you configure recording times and triggers, the batteries in my cameras last a year or so, before needing to be recharged.

I would do everything in my power to avoid wireless security cameras. Even if I have to bribe JosA and JosB to help me pull wires, it's worth it. :emb4:

Link to this 350x camera?

Link ?

Wasnt a camera its a lens they attach to cameras 40+ year old technology, lens isnt permanent attached to camera and does not come with camera, they are bought separately and fitted to camera dependent on requirements.

They are expensive and work just as good now as they did in 1980, can view a gate from a 1/8 mile away, you could read a license plate from that distance.

Did you use a night owl one or just a generic one?
No night owl, but the one I have uses a western digital drive. The purple drives are WD security system drives.
Amazon.ca

Just check your documentation for you specific night owl model dvr to see what its max capacity is. In one of the setup menus there will be a format hard drive option and you should be good to go again.

I'm not sure 600' is possible for a regular wired POE camera over CAT 6.
You might have to do a p2p internet system or something, over my head honestly.
You can use game changer cable up to 600

I am running a Lorex 4k HDR with a bunch of their 1080p cameras, a few of their 2MP cameras, a couple of low quality Bosch 720p dome cams, a Pelco Spectra III and a 5MP DSE minidome. The minidome has a 20x zoom, I run it at 4MP to work with the Lorex HDR.

The DSE minidome has phenomenal video quality day or night. The Pelco is PTZ and the video quality is pretty meh but it has a 40x optical zoom which will show you the nose hairs on a fly in meh quality and shows full color at night.

The 2MP Lorex cameras are good during the day but have a fish eye to them and suck at night. The 1080p Lorex cameras have no fisheye and decent quality during the day and decent quality at night.

The Bosch cameras are a bit like yours. You can see shapes and people but not much beyond that. They stay about the same quality day or night.

The Lorex DVRs can be accessed via an app on my phone or an app on my computer.

Anyone running these inside the window cameras?

I got $30 wyze cams that probably do most everything that that one does. You don't want the cloud, you can just install an SD card and all of your events will be saved locally.

The road is about 300 feet from the window -

the camera picks up cars when they are driving by, as well as deer in the field.
