I built mine without a viseI'm guessing a dude who doesn't own a vice can't build that vice.

Lol I hate swivel vise’s for the same reason. They always swivel when you don’t want them too. I don’t wear panties so my vise is bolted to a 2000# table and more often than I like to admit gets a 4’ pipe wrench with a 8’ cheater on it to break a hydraulic cylinder nut loose. How are you breaking swivel bases? They are taper lock, tighten both down TIGHT and that thing is the same as a solid base. Mine never come loose, ever, but I tighten them with intention. This is the setup on my work truck. I regularly hoss on this with all my weight with a 48” certified pipe wrench extension on my 36” rigid. Depending on what plumbing I’m working on I’ll swivel that thing any position that makes it easier for me to pull down on my cheater pipe.
I still have a Harbor Freight vice that is still kicking
bang for the buck for a start up shop it pretty good
I searched CL etc for a long while using various spellings and only found rusted out abused shit for $$ or used vises for new money. My wife got tired of me bitching and bought me a new one.
Are you saying I wear panties to work? My vise mount weighs 9000 poundsLol I hate swivel vise’s for the same reason. They always swivel when you don’t want them too. My fabbed up fireball is by far the best vise I have ever had. Been going on 4 years now and it’s still holding strong. Even the gorillas that work for me are impressed it’s still in one piece.
That little baby tube it’s bolted too says otherwiseAre you saying I wear panties to work? My vise mount weighs 9000 pounds
Not on bottom but the whole inside of the bed is a steel framed insert because alumaduty aluminum bed. So it’s got a lot of integrated iron on the top side of the bed floor. The insert framework bolts directly to the bed but everything is attached only to the insert.
"it's a 200 dollar hammer"I tried to order a Wilton, my salesguy showed up with the wilton chicom special. because it came with a free hammer Its a POS.
So I got pissy and picked up a Morgan Milwaukee. Its a nice vise, the jaws deflect a lil, if you grab something with just the corner of the jaws. But otherwise no complaints. Probly shoulda ordered a real wilton though
sell me your shaperMy vise project out of a scrap bin. I suggest the OP shoot for nothing less.
"it's a 200 dollar hammer"
fuck you asshole only a retard would pay fifty bucks for a hammer
that wilton piece of shit hammer doesn't even take a normal handle when you break it
it is rubber bonded to steel, it'll break eventuallyIts one of them "unbreakable" handle things
I have one for tight places, and that is the only place it is usedNot this one, it'll last forever. Stubby handles on a sledge hammer make zero sense to me.
Don't worry, I'm sure he scrapped it because nobody wanted to buy it after he didn't try selling it.sell me your shaper
why is your bench moving? Not much to add, but I built a stand for my vice, Just a 4x4 heavy tube with plate that matches the base of the vice and a 12" square base, then bolted it to the floor. Its got a bench mounted to it, but the post allows me to work from 3 sides of the vice easily, without it moving. I don't like leaning on a vice and moving the whole bench.
Because of leverage from the vice and being cheap and flimsy. I nixxed the bench almost completely now, Basically I have a 2x3 shelf attached to the vice post to hold things while working. Flat surfaces in my shop get piled up pretty quick so I try not to have any unless necessary. A folding table is plenty when needed, and put away when its not. A heavy welding table would be nice to have at times but in the way more often than not for what I do.why is your bench moving?
sell me your shaper
I dunno about your shaper, his has an outboard support and the ram has dovetail ways, making it better than my little 12"I got one for free-fiddy that I haven't done a damn thing with yet. It came from my sister in law's place. Had an old machine shop out back that they wanted cleared out and they were going to scrap stuff if I didn't come get it. Ended up with 2 lathes, the shaper, a drill press, an anvil, a couple vises, hydraulic press, and a little giant power hammer... Plus a bunch of other odds and ends that ended up being a couple trailer loads of stuff. I think I ended up giving them $1000 for all of it because I didn't want to just take it. It's all in need of cleaning and repair after sitting in that old building for ages...

honestly I forget what brand mine is and I use it at least once a yearI couldn't even tell you what brand or size the one I have is. I'll have to do some research on it sometime.
Haven’t read past the first page, but just because it’s a Wilton, doesn’t meant it’s quality. If it was something built in the ‘70s in the United States and is in good, or restorable condition, yep. If it’s a modern Lowe’s/Home Depot made in China <$100 Wilton, meh.
They do, but you need to be aware of what you are buying. Brand names can get kinda sketchy if one doesn’t pay attention. They still make good shit. Just not goona get it from home depot or my bolt salesman
