‘Enough is enough’: Top Dem senator vows to punish Saudi Arabia for oil production cut

October 11, 2022

Democratic Senate Foreign Relations Chairman Bob Menendez called for the Biden administration to cease arms sales to Saudi Arabia until the oil-rich kingdom “reassesses” its decision to cut oil production, seen as damaging to the U.S. and a boon to Russia’s war effort in Ukraine, in a statement on Monday.

The New Jersey senator pledged to use “all means at [his] disposal” to restrict Russia from supplies and funds to fuel its “war machine,” including the power that he wields as Senate Foreign Relations Committee chair to unilaterally veto presidential arms transfers, Politico reported. Despite President Joe Biden’s pleas to Saudi Arabia to authorize a boost in oil production alleviating high energy prices for the U.S. and western allies, the Kingdom led the charge to slash production at a meeting Wednesday that could allow Russia to further profit from its petroleum revenues through the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries.

“I will not green-light any cooperation with Riyadh until the Kingdom reassesses its position with respect to the war in Ukraine,” Menendez said. “Enough is enough.”

Democratic lawmakers have decried Saudi Arabia as a backstabbing, untrustworthy ally and called for a drawdown of U.S. troops stationed in the Kingdom as an additional consequence, Politico reported.

“There is simply no room to play both sides of this conflict — either you support the rest of the free world in trying to stop a war criminal from violently wiping off an entire country off the map, or you support him,” said Menendez. “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia chose the latter in a terrible decision driven by economic self-interest.”

Menendez’ statement came hours after Russia’s renewed aerial assault in at least 10 cities across Ukraine, including the first strikes on the country’s capital in months, which he cited as a driving factor in his decision to stymie arms sales.

State Department Principal Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel said Thursday the administration had “no plans” to restrict arms sales to the Kingdom, But Menendez’ vow could make it more difficult for the administration to follow through with its plans.

While Congress has considered breaking off arms sales with Saudi Arabia over various issues, including the 2018 assassination of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi, it has never done so over the belief that arming the Kingdom furthered U.S. security interests in the region, according to Politico.

Menendez attempted to block an arms sale to Saudi Arabia in 2019 under the Trump administration to avoid supporting Saudi Arabia’s war in Yemen, after which the former president issued an emergency waiver to further the sale.

The White House and State Department did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s requests for comment.

Dumb ass needs to look at his own parties policies
I am sure Menendez was on Epstein's sex island. He can shoot his mouth off now that Epstein is dead and his GF is locked down. (I need put her in the Irate4x4 dead pool)...:homer:

Just dont forget Musk is akin to a Bond villain and should be regarded as a frenemy at best.
easy to say the same about trump
is the persecution somewhat humanizing? yes
could it all still be a big reality tv stunt orchestrated in order to paint him as one that is actually against the establishment while being one of their goons in secret? also yes

musk is getting us back into space
that overrides most all concerns I can have about him, the lip service toward free speech is just icing on the cake

Interesting piece, a little bit salted on one side, but still a good read:

A nice bridge you got there… | The Vineyard of the Saker

Excerpt:

Why didn't the Russian army liberate Kharkov, for instance, instead of retreating from the region? Well, Kharkov is a city that has almost no industry but has several hundred hipsters who would have had to be fed, clothed and entertained — or they would go and work for the enemy. Most of these hipsters are Stockholm Syndrome sufferers par excellence, and deprogramming them would absorb scarce resources best used elsewhere. Same logic applies to Kiev — times five or ten. Why doesn't the Russian army blow up bridges, severing communications across Kiev-controlled territory? Well, then they would have to rebuild those bridges when the time comes, and that costs money. Why doesn't the Russian army demolish border crossings, cutting the Ukraine off from the EU? Well, it's not time for that yet; that time will come when life in the EU becomes worse than life in the Kiev-controlled portion of former Ukraine and people start trying to come back. Then it will be time to set up filtration camps, to separate the wolves from the lambs. Why doesn't the Russian army use rockets to destroy the Ukraine's electric grid and the rest of its energy system? Well, that would just create a humanitarian disaster, for which Russia would be to blame, making it no better than the terrorists and providing ammunition for enemy propaganda.

Funny excerpt:

The difference, from the Russian perspective, is that the Washington regime is on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean and, once the US economy collapses, will be easy to ignore. Already your average Russian is revolted by news of Americans castrating their children, having gay sex [ author is a little slow here: cultural bias? ] and dosing on fentanyl [happens in Russia, too] ; if it wasn't for Biden falling down and shaking hands with ghosts or Pelosi's empty-eyed blithering, there would be nothing to report. [ ]

Biden shaking hands with ghosts made me spit my beer out all over my screen. :lmao:

Crimea Bridge Explosion Footage Catches Something Fishy

Footage From Crimea Bridge Shows Bizarre “Wave” Before Explosion

(AmericanProsperity.com) – The only bridge connecting Crimea and Russia was the target of a recent attack. Ukrainian officials have yet to deny or take credit for the explosion that crippled the link. Moscow claims a truck exploded on the bridge, causing catastrophic damage. Yet, a video of moments before the explosion shows a mysterious “wave” under the expanse, leading to several questions.

Speculations about the attack include Ukrainian special forces utilizing a boat or a drone outfitted with explosives to attack the Kerch Bridge. The road and railway served as the only direct connection between Russia and Crimea, which Putin’s forces annexed from Ukraine in 2014. The explosion killed at least three people and could cripple a crucial supply route for Russia’s forces in Crimea and southern Ukraine.
Moscow had claimed attacking the bridge would be impossible, citing 20 different security measures, including their use of attack dolphins. However, that obviously wasn’t the case.
The bridge’s destruction comes as Ukraine has mounted an impressive counteroffensive and retaken some Russia-occupied areas. The explosion and subsequent damage could be a turning point for Ukraine as Russian troops will have more challenges in getting supplies now, and Ukrainian forces continue advancing in southern regions of their country.

While everyone is blaming Putin, Dumas ( Russian Senate) and the major population support him its only the west which hates him. They are just tired of being demonized. Heres a bar in Moscow after the missile strikes.

On Thursday, a top Kremlin official warned that by admitting Ukraine into NATO, the west risks descent into a third world war.

Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky recently asked for fast-track membership, however the security alliance has not yet voted on whether his nation will be allowed to join.

According to Reuters, deputy secretary of Russia's Security Council Alexander Venediktov’s warning was quoted by TASS, a state-owned media outlet.

"Kyiv is well aware that such a step would mean a guaranteed escalation to World War Three," Venediktov said, referring to Ukraine joining NATO. He suggested that, "The suicidal nature of such a step is understood by NATO members themselves."

On Friday, Zelensky called for the West to take “preventive action” against Putin, urging allies not to wait “for the nuclear strikes first.”

"What NATO has to do to prevent or deter the use of nuclear weapons by Russia," Zelensky argued, is take "preventive strikes, preventive action" so that Russia would get a sense of the consequences were they to deploy nuclear weapons.

Venediktov warned against such tactics, reminding Zelensky and his allies that all out war would have impacts far beyond Russia and Ukraine.

"We must remember: a nuclear conflict will affect absolutely the whole world — not only Russia and the collective West, but every country on this planet," Venediktov said. "The consequences would be disastrous for all mankind."

Putin had recently said in a speech that, "those who try to blackmail [Russia] with nuclear weapons should know that the prevailing winds can turn in their direction," leading many to worry about what the world’s reaction would be if threats were actually acted upon.

President Biden warned that Putin was "not joking" about the potential use of nuclear weapons, adding that any use of such weapons would lead to "armageddon."

"First time since the Cuban missile crisis, we have the threat of a nuclear weapon if in fact, things continue down the path they are going," he said. "We are trying to figure out, what is Putin’s off-ramp? Where does he find a way out?"
