Well it’s about that time to hit the road and see some live Texas country music. I had a semi-thread on the other board so I figure with shit opening up again I’d start a new one. My wife and I share this hobby of seeing live bands and we enjoy each other’s companies until I get completely annihilated with a 30 pack of Lonestar or Shiner :flipoff2: The last concert I attended was the blur of Whiskey Myers Septemberish 2019 for my friend’s bachelor party. We attended our first live concert about a month ago at a local venue which featured Bart Crow...decent show and had some great local brewed beer by 5x5 Brewery out of Mission TX.

I am trying to catch someone else within a few hours soon but if not, next up is Whiskey Myers and Shane Smith & the Saints at Floore’s Country Store in June. As always anyone is welcome to tag along for a good time. It’ll be a group of about 15 of us for my friend’s birthday. :smokin:

No Florida Georgia Line shit in here or I will HNBTD (for you sensitive fawks) :flipoff2:

I am good with most of the old dancehalls, plus floores: if I can step out of the crowd and go out in the biergarten like at Gruene or Luckenbach, or back in the back at Floores, I'm okay. tell me I'm going to be jammed into a building with a buttload of people and smoke for a few hours, and I'll basically tell you to kiss my ass (wife hits me up to go to Mo's in Katy every now and again with some of her friends, I've gotten to where I just laugh).. We're going to Schroeder hall in a few weeks to see Creager, just to get out of the house a bit more than anything after the last year's bullshit.

One of my favorites, now that I'm getting all old and shit. Doesn't always fit into "Texas Country" for a lot of people, but it's just a matter of opinion. Been a big fan of his for a long time now.

But, back to the original theme:

I dont think anyone under 30 knows who that is.

"Texas country" seems to be a catch all, and not all the popular bands are good. Cody johnson may be the worst name to ever come out of Texas, like nails on a chalkboard to me. Jon Pardi (from California) has a lot of good songs. Hit or miss.

Aaron watson keeps making songs, he should've hung up his hat 10 years ago. Parker McCollum is pretty relatable.

Use to hit up dance halls all the time in my teens/20s. If you could dance, you were getting laid. Always hated concerts though. As the dance floor was standing room only and the speakers raped your ears. Outdoor venues where you can sit down are where it's at.

what I concluded so far is y’all are a group of old grumps :flipoff2:

Uh. I don’t consider it a catch all phrase. I wouldn’t consider Jon Pardi Texas country although I do like his music. I’ve seen CoJo once and I think that was enough. Aarons old stuff and concerts are pretty damn good. Parker has some awesome music and good live show and want to see him live again...I thought his new album sounded to mainstream and wasn’t happy on the change in his voice.

I guess I need to compile a list of suggestions in my OP of TC bands. Then I’ll be getting links to Dwight Yoakum and Garth Brooks :flipoff2:

Uh. I don’t consider it a catch all phrase.

What constitutes as "Texas Country" to you? Birthplace of the so called artist? A lot of these guys tour outside of TX more than in.

Was able to BS with Jason Boland years ago. Gave him shit about being from Oklahoma. His response "I'm from Texas, Oklahoma is just where my parents fucked".

Should I ask why? If someone can’t honestly listen to that first video I linked then there’s something wrong with them and are not of this earth. :flipoff2:

The guitars are awesome in that first track. Do not like the vocals or the lyrical flow at all. Sounds kind of crappy to me.

The second song on the first post is also a no go for me.

I do like Sturgill Simpson, Colter Wall, Tyler Childers, that kind of stuff. Just can’t get into these bands/genre. But I like I said, hope you have a redneck rompin good time! Sincerely!

A list of texas country and Ray Wylie Hubbard isn’t on it?! Don’t forget The Steel Woods and The Dirt Drifters. I’ve seen Turnpike Troubadours, Randy Rogers and Shane Smith in concert and all were great shows. That’s a good list, even though Reckless Kelly is from Idaho. :flipoff2:

Dig the Sturgill and Tyler stuff but they Kentuckians. And did you assume my race calling me a redneck? :mad3::flipoff2:

That’s why it’s a short list :flipoff2:

and I’m making the rules. If they’re in the Texas country scene then they belong in here :homer:

If you haven’t seen him, Max Stalling puts on a hell of a show.

Had the chance to BS with Roger Creager and his dad after a show. His dad is cool as fuck. Visited with him for 30 mins or so. Creager’s music still sounds like it always had.

Have seen REK more times than I can count. Always a good time.

Almost 100% certain redneck transcends race, you prick. :flipoff2:If you’ve never seen other races of redneck come on over to Pennsylvania/West Virginia.

Also, redneck is an Appalachia term and as the old coal miners used to say, it didn’t matter what color you were when you started the shift, everyone was the same color by the end.

Bump. Headed to see Koe with Gio & the Hired Guns opening up this Saturday 5/29 at SPI. Gonna get rowdy. :stirthepot:

I have three extra tickets for Whiskey Myers June 4 at Floore’s $30 a piece if anyone is interested. Can’t wait for that one :grinpimp:

I had never heard of Koe Wetzel 'till a girl drug me to a concert years ago. At the time I didn't know the songs, and I had other priorities, but I do recall it being very high energy and bitches throwing undergarments onstage.

Rhymes and Vines @ Melody Mountain Ranch is a great time.
Music Lineup

Small outdoor venue with RV parking. Very laid back older crowd, BYOB with food trucks.

I'm anxiously waiting for Kerry King and Phil Anselmo to hook up and go on tour! THAT dance floor is going to be amazing.
