Road Trippin’: Texas Country

Aggie06

Dont understand why he's so popular? He writes good songs, is a nice guy, and he actually plays waltzs.

His concerts are fun and bitches used to show them bewbs whenever he was around.

i dont understand what there is not to understand.

If you haven’t seen him, Max Stalling puts on a hell of a show.

Had the chance to BS with Roger Creager and his dad after a show. His dad is cool as fuck. Visited with him for 30 mins or so. Creager’s music still sounds like it always had.

Have seen REK more times than I can count. Always a good time.

Saw Creager at Gruene for about the umpteenth time and I would always go talk to him after his shows and bullshit, because we used to have the same job back in college. so we would BS etc. One time, i had been drinking for free all night, and went to go talk to him afterward, too drunk to realize i had cut the line of about 40 chicks who wanted a picture and autograph with him. he hugged me, we laughed and BS'd for about 5 minutes and i left. Apparently, that line of chicks were about to beat the shit out of me.

i think that was the same night i was throwing the hardest game at Bri Bagwell. This is before her and Creager started dating. She was a nice piece of ass.

Also ended up putting some time hitting on ol' Bonnie Bishop, who i havent heard of or seen in years but 10 years ago was smokin hot. And just happens to be Jackie Sherill's daughter. She opened for REK once at Gruene. came out after and hung with me in the crowd to watch the show. What a blast that was.

I had never heard of Koe Wetzel 'till a girl drug me to a concert years ago. At the time I didn't know the songs, and I had other priorities, but I do recall it being very high energy and bitches throwing undergarments onstage.
Yep, I was completely hammered the last time I saw him. Wife said I had a great time :flipoff2:

Btw. Keep me posted. Have several people already telling me they’ll get back to me but whoever dibs them with cash first will take them

Didn’t know Texas Country was a genre.

Texas Country AKA Red dirt Country. Sub genre of countr.

72blazer I lump a lot of people into what I consider Red Dirt (example Tyler Childers).

Add Pecos and the Rooftops to your list. Also, Read Southall Band is a good listen.

Yeah I was wanting to see Pecos at Floore’s last month but just didn’t pan out. RSB has been on my binge list. Guys are awesome. Wish I woulda seen them when they came down to the local rodeo a couple of years ago. I agree on your categorization.

Rhymes and Vines @ Melody Mountain Ranch is a great time.
Music Lineup

Small outdoor venue with RV parking. Very laid back older crowd, BYOB with food trucks.
And my wife corrected me last night and said LJT will be in September this year instead of April like normal.

So the Rhymes and Vines festival I linked has already passed... :homer:

But the wildly more popular and drunk LJT is still to come:beer:

A list of texas country and Ray Wylie Hubbard isn’t on it?! Don’t forget The Steel Woods and The Dirt Drifters. I’ve seen Turnpike Troubadours, Randy Rogers and Shane Smith in concert and all were great shows. That’s a good list, even though Reckless Kelly is from Idaho. :flipoff2:
exactly

i saw reckless kelly 2 years back was pretty good and saw the steel woods last year

72blazer Cross canadian is a oklahoma band and they are called cody canada and the departed now.

Turnpike is a hiatus but all the members, except evan, are touring under their own names.

And lastly is nathan hamiliton still touring? came across a few of their songs and they sound great.

Got tickets to the avett brothers and tyler childers at the walmart amp...or i did. It looks like its the avett brother and robert earl keen which will be a great fucking show too.
ex.

i did some reading once upon a time and they the impala burning in the album cover is his impala burning at some concert in austin when he was like 16-17

id like to see goodnight texas in the next year or so too

willie nelson’s fourth of july picnic.

I am good with most of the old dancehalls, plus floores: if I can step out of the crowd and go out in the biergarten like at Gruene or Luckenbach, or back in the back at Floores, I'm okay. tell me I'm going to be jammed into a building with a buttload of people and smoke for a few hours, and I'll basically tell you to kiss my ass (wife hits me up to go to Mo's in Katy every now and again with some of her friends, I've gotten to where I just laugh).. We're going to Schroeder hall in a few weeks to see Creager, just to get out of the house a bit more than anything after the last year's bullshit.

One of my favorites, now that I'm getting all old and shit. Doesn't always fit into "Texas Country" for a lot of people, but it's just a matter of opinion. Been a big fan of his for a long time now.

But, back to the original theme:

**** punch yourself for posting shitty music! Radney, more like Randy assistant trailer park supervisor! :flipoff2:

Yeah. Couldn’t get to all the bands. Just listed a few for reference. Hopefully others reading through catch some more great bands I missed in my OP. Tyler was awesome pre political BS. I wonder how he’ll be now That he discovered his white privilege. :homer:

to add, I’ve seen Pat Green, one of the first bands that got me into the scene, a few years back and he completely sucked. I guess my expectations were too high or I was that hammered. :flipoff2:

Green has been hit or miss over the last few years...going to see him over July 4th weekend, we’ll see which Pat shows up..

We saw Koe in SA a month or so ago, he’s awesome live. We’ve seen Whiskey several times live but honestly I prefer listening to them on the radio. Cody Jinks is on my short list to see live.

you never listened to Live No 2 dinner? He tells the story about going to Willie's Fourth of July Picnic and they announced that there was a bunch of cars in the parking lot of burned. He heard his license plate number and said "Hey, man, thats my car." "There wasnt enough of my car left to carbon-14 date"

"well, the least we can do is let you meet Willie. And Willie came out, pig tails and all. and he said he was sorry about my car but he had to go jam with Leon Russell". and thats when he plays Road Goes on Forever.

Thats legendary stuff right there. So he called one of his Albums, "Picnic". Probably one of my favorite albums of his. Levelland, 4th of July, and Running with the Night are genius and as good of music as there may ever be on this earth.

Radney Foster is a complete badass. and Broken Window Serenade by Whiskey Myers is an unbelievable song. FYI, they closed the Time Out near Tyler back in March. Sad days.

I like some texas country, my wife hates it... She is one of those "good country stopped in the 90's" people. Although we did go to a Whiskey myers show a few years ago with some friends and had a really good time.

This will be my 5th…6th time? seeing WM. Enjoyed every show I’ve been to but I’m going to try to stay semi sober for this go around. Shane Smith is awesome live as well. Cody Jinks is badass…last time I saw him was at Chilifest with a huge storm rolling in, wind blowing, and he kicked off Loud and Heavy. It was the perfect setting and song for that moment. Still gives me chills. The storm just missed us with a light drizzle.

Bump. Headed to see Koe with Gio & the Hired Guns opening up this Saturday 5/29 at SPI. Gonna get rowdy. :stirthepot:

I have three extra tickets for Whiskey Myers June 4 at Floore’s $30 a piece if anyone is interested. Can’t wait for that one :grinpimp:
Still have these. Just posted them on FaceReconBook today and going to post them up on CL. If they don’t go, the kids will be tagging along. Which is not a big deal for me. I’ve been wanting them to see SS&S.

its not a Chilifest unless you get rained on and sunburned in the same 48 hour period.

man, i miss going to that thing. i had to make an executive decision and i think i stopped going before i was 30. last time i went it was me and our camp the only ones to stay up and drink all night on Friday. its was pathetic. and the douchebag quotient went through the roof. But damnit we had so much fun for the 10 years i never missed the thing.

Well what a fucking weekend. Thursday morning I received an email stating the Whiskey Myers show was rain or shine. By lunch time the concert had been rescheduled to July 2 due to severe thunderstorm warnings. :mad3: I had to request a refund since I’ll be on vacation during that time. But what to do…I already had the time off, it was too late to cancel the ABNB, and we had our tickets for six flags Saturday. Our group decided to say fuck it and drive into town with really no other choice. On Friday evening we were lounging around trying to decide what bars to hit. Literally blue skies for miles and we were pissed WM cancelled the concert. At about 7 my buddy found out Mascudine Bloodline was playing at a venue 30 minutes away called The 4 Way Stop. We looked up the opening act Tanner Usrey to listen to his music and decided we wanted to see him. Sped off to catch him at 830. As we were walking in he was taking the stage. These guys completely rocked it. Definitely recommend checking them out. They also did a cover of TPTs “Mercury” and laid it out. It was badass. Guy hung out with us during the Mascudine Bloodline show and took some shots with us. MB was a decent act. No rain all day. Whiskey Myers pissed Off a lot of people.

Can’t say I’m surprised unfortunately. I like WM a lot on the radio but they’ve never impressed me in person, especially as they’ve gotten more popular and “too big for their britches”. At least it sounds like you were able to salvage the weekend

Bumping this. Been procrastinating seeing Zach Bryan but gonna try to score tickets this week to see him open up for Willie (meh) Memorial Day weekend at Whitewater. This guy is legit badass. Reminds me of some Johnny Cash pulling the same 4 chords but laying it out in his stories. He just released a new song from his upcoming album, his actual first studio professional album

im going to Tyler in May for their big Fest. REK is headlining and we're blowing it out with friends up there since this is his farewell tour. Hes hanging it up September 6th, 2022.

Cody Jinks is playing the new “Round Rock Amp” which is the replacement for Nutty Brown. He’s actually opening the place. We have tickets
Also have tickets for Yonder Mountain String band, Billy Strings and Dwight Yoakum. Going to be a busy spring

OP, ever listened to Jaime Lin Wilson, formerly of the Trishas? She's really good, a favorite. How bout Robert Earl Keen?
Caught some Jamie but not on the rotating playlist. Haven’t gotten into it yet. REK corpus christi bay…can’t say I’ve been able to get into much else.

We're going to stoney LaRue this weekend. Don't have real high hopes for him, I haven't gone to a good concert from him in quite some time but it's something to do with friends. Also seeing Koe again in June with Pecos and kolby cooper opening for him
