Road Trippin’: Texas Country

OP, ever listened to Jaime Lin Wilson, formerly of the Trishas? She's really good, a favorite. How bout Robert Earl Keen?
I've known her for years. And yes she's great.
Caught some Jamie but not on the rotating playlist. Haven’t gotten into it yet. REK corpus christi bay…can’t say I’ve been able to get into much else.
This hurts me personally. There's nothing better than Robert Earl Keen. Nothing I wouldn't recommend, even his weird stuff on Farm Fresh Onions is good.

No. 2 Dinner is classic but Picnic may be one of the best studio albums. Five pound bass is Rich Brotherton showing why he's the best lead guitarist in Texas, maybe all of Americana, folk, country music.

Life happens but it goes on. Zach has been tearing up the scene. Hoping to see Turnpike in August at Kokefest

Back in 2019, we were grabbing dinner before the Turnpike concert when we got the notification that it was canceled.

We have tickets for the show on May 7th (back at White Oak Music Hall. Same place we going to see them at in 2019). :smokin:

I had tickets to see them at the new local amphitheater they had just built. I think we were a couple of weeks out when they announced they were disbanding. I can’t wait to see them. Post up to see if they still got it. A lot of Felker talk whether he’ll be up to the task with his new found sobriety.

I saw Dale Watson at The Last Concert Cafe in Houston a week or 2 back and he put on a fuckin great show.

If you can see him, do.

The show was Saturday night and it was a great time. Cody Canada opened for them and put on a good show too.

I'd say Turnpike picked up right where the left off. The show was at White Oak and the crowd was really into it (despite it being hot as fuck). We were dead center about 30-50' back from the stage and honestly, the crowd sang so loud you could hardly hear Felker singing half the time. He said he lives in Anahuac which I did not realize. He also said "this might be the best show i've ever done". I think he was digging the energy.

They didn't play a few of their more popular songs and I thought that was strange. Example: Diamonds and Gasoline and Before the Devil Knows your Dead. Plus, I'm almost certain when they came out for an encore they replayed a song from earlier in the set .

I saw the show.

The sound was great and both acts are so talented.

But it was my last concert in a venue like that,

It was great right up until the point it wasn't.

After standing for HOURS, I was ready to go. So I make my way down the hill, (not an easy feat) to the sidewalk. The sidewalk was shoulder to shoulder people standing on the sidewalk and refusing to let people move down the sidewalk. I almost got into a fight with some prick not letting me through. It may have been you, who knows.

Almost 50 years old and going to get in a fisticuffs with a dick at a concert.... Yeah

It was packed to the point of being a death trap.

(I really would have appreciated security keeping a lane open to move)

Yeah, a couple hours in and I was really wishing they had still had tables available when we bought tickets.

Funny you mention security and that sidewalk. My BIL went and got drinks and said he fell in behind a security guy on his way back. Said the security guy just plowed through everyone at speed:laughing: leaving a nice path to follow.

I'm not real big on crowded concerts anymore either, but my wife really wanted to go so.... I really enjoyed a show at Mucky Ducks. If you haven't been, you should give it a try. It is the opposite experience of White Oak.

Seen many shows there.
Probably seen Hayes Carl there most, but I’ve seen Uncle Lucious, Slaid Cleaves, Corb Lund, Austin Lounge Lizzards, James McMurtry, Sisters Morales, and others

I’m planning to drive out to Zach Bryan tomorrow night at Stubbs, the drive in and out should be interesting :mad3: but should be worth it. ZB was phenomenal last time but his set list was just too short and her started early. I think it was because they needed to get Willie to bed early. :homer: He’s been tearing up the scene. If you haven’t checked him out, then do so. If you’re into Florida Georgia Line then his music might not be for you. :flipoff2:

Cross post. Headed to see Shane Smith open for Whiskey Myers at Floore’s. Should be fun. :smokin:

Got a good friend from Caldwell driving in for that. I'll be out of town

Love Texas country music, hate crowds. Maybe in the future, this could be on tap for me, but the lesser known bands at smaller venues. I've seen a lot of REK concerts, Pat Green back before he was big, Mark David Manders, CCR, Jason Boland, Chris Knight with his trailer stage, Corb Lund, Lost Trailers, Jack Ingram, Charlie, Bruce, and Kelly, Spur 503, and a ton of others, but all small venue things. Haven't been into the scene for 10+ years, maybe when the kids get older.

Zach Bryan was phenomenal. He played for 2.5/3 hours with no intermission bullshit. Solid performance. Continues to prove why he’s legit. :smokin:

Caught Weathered Souls, Shane Smith, and Whiskey Myers tonight. Great line up and still not disappointed with either of the bands.

Damn. It’s been a minute. Some of the bands since:

Turnpike (x2)
Lance Roark
Mike Ryan
Carson Jeffrey
Slade Coulter
Zach Bryan (3rd time)
Jason Isbell
Sierra Ferrel(x2)
Wyatt Flores
Charly Crockett (x2)
Mark Chestnutt
John Anderson
49 Winchester
Nick Shoulder
Hank Williams Jr
Clint Black
Dale Watson
William Beckman
I’m sure I’ve missed a few here and there.

There’s a nice lineup in November I’d like to catch.

Just caught Charly Crockett last night with Vince Neil Emerson opening up.

Charlie Crockett great, but he’s gotten too big. I really can’t stand concerts. But I love live music in bars, and listening rooms.

That… Looks miserable.

I saw him at House of blues a couple of months back,… That room was way too big.

Mark Chestnut, I was shocked how great his show was. But I saw him at a small county fair. Nice and intimate.

Dale Watson still plays a lot of small rooms. He’s great too.

Turnpike… Saw them once where it was great, then… Way too big.

I got to see Hank Williams, Jr. and a pretty small venue a few years back. A casino in Minnesota, but still small enough to not be crowded.

My Crockett picture may be deceiving. Small local arena but there had to be 150-200 people tops.

I also don’t mind chilling 50 yards back and being comfortable. My front row/ mosh pit days are over.

You suck dicks in a closet.
Don’t really get his post. Assuming troll. Probably listens to Morgan Wallen and loves Cover Me Up.
