Road tires - bead balancing vs traditional weights?

So a little update on this. I still have the dyna-beads in the front tires. I also still have the ceramic balance rings on the front.

Today I was driving home from a weekend at the beach. The traffic was such that I was driving at 45-50 mph for several miles. I was getting a terrible vibration from the front tires. My wife and I were both commenting on it. I was thinking it was flat spots from sitting overnight. The traffic cleared up some and I was able to speed up to about 60 mph. Magically, the tires smooth out. Then the traffic slowed down again to the 45-50 again. Now the tires were smooth.

Then we came to stop sign and turn. After that we were back at 45-50 for a couple miles. Yes, the vibration was back. As soon as I got a chance, I sped up for a short while and then slowed for traffic again. It worked. It was smooth. I can’t believe I never noticed this before.

So it would appear the beads work at a high enough speed. Once they move to the correct spot, they work. (Even at a slow speed) But apparently, they don’t move to the correct spot at the slow speed. They might even be adding to the vibration at the slow speed.

I will qualify that I don’t know if it was the beads or the ceramic rings that caused the issue. I am thinking of removing the ceramic rings and swapping the front tires right to left. I would love to ditch the beads also, but that’s too much work.

One variable at a time!

Pretty interesting. I've had a similar experience with MT 37s full of grease- way out of whack until they heat up enough for the grease to distribute. Also terrible death wobble right at 45-50.
