What's new

Rich men north of Richmond?

I suspect he's just going to fade out, his you too vids/commentaries pretty much sum up that he never/still doesn't want this, and he definitely has some depression going on. Can't just accept the success. But that's cool too, the angst drives you harder sometimes... If it doesn't kill you first.

I can see not wanting to be famous and tour, I have zero desire power or recognition, but I like making money. You don’t have to spend it like a 1st year NBA player.

Have Dave Cobb produce a record, keep your sound rather than selling out to the Big Machine (real name) Nashville schmucks, hire someone to manage your money for you, and don’t change anything else about your life.

You could make it your mission to hand out a $100 bill a day to a person you run into that’s struggling, or be able to afford decent cancer treatment/home health care for your dad.

I’d be surprised if Jamey Johnson didnt leave him his number.
He’d Probably be happy to share his ways of staying out of the spotlight and making $.

He’s 5 of the top 10 songs on iTunes right now

Says a lot on how the people REALLY feel eh? Funny.

How much do you wanna bet the talking heads are having furious little meetings over this and will somehow lock the charts down to make sure this never happens again. Can't have the silent majority have any inkling that they aren't alone in this woke world.

tom macdonald did a long video a while back on how the billboard charts work...

his opinion - rigged.

WTF is unsweetened tea? Are you some sort of commie?
Nope. I gave up most sugar a long time ago. While I will eat a donut or a piece of candy, I drink coffee black and tea without sugar. Even a little bit of sugar makes it sickening sweet anymore. Much like my sense of humor, I embrace the bitter. It lets me know I'm alive.

This guy popped up on my FYP on TikTok and then like 3 days later was everywhere Never seen anyone go viral and up that quick.

I'd love to see some so I can see how people with broken brains think. And if it's anybody offended by the welfare comment, and they match his description in the song, they need to put down the fudge rounds and get a fucking job.

The people triggered by that line cherry picked it. He wasn't even talking bad about government assistance. He was just saying that it's fucked up there are actual hungry people on the street while fatasses who know how to milk the system are eating junk food paid for by tax dollars. I mean, who can argue with that?

Have at it.

People are trying to call him a fraud now because he owns property worth half a million and acting like he's wealthy because he had some sales job. Half a million in property in this state right now could easily be a fucking quarter acre lot. Half a million isn't shit around here anymore.
I own property worth half a million .

One was worth $34k when I bought it in 1993 ,
And the other was worth $95k when I bought it in 2001 .

He's so correct about 8 million offers from record companies. I wonder why so many artists fight for the freedom to their own music?:homer:

Everyone from The Beetles, Taylor Swift, Toby Keith, Kanye West, George Clinton, hell Prince changed his name officially to a symbol to get out of his.

Money does not buy happiness in the music industry. It only makes the rich richer. And the artists work harder.

I know of too many awesome bands that I listen to that make pennies because they refuse to sign onto a big label.
A lot of bands only make Pennies even with the $8 mil up front .

The up front money isn’t just handed over .
It’s an advance on future earnings .
It’s just a loan .

And once you take it the record label OWNS you and any songs you write and any songs you sing and any music sales for years and years .
Then they hand you a song and say record this and sing it the way we tell
You to , you have to do it because you owe them millions .

The Jewel chick didn’t take any upfront money from the record label she signed with .

So they left her alone and let her write and sing whatever and however she wanted .

The music business is like the mafia ,
Once you take their money , they own you forever .

Scott Ian (Anthrax) wrote about this in one of his books.

Well, you can assume that if it makes you feel better. I've noticed that the value of money is inversely proportional to how much you have. Someone desperate to pay the heat bill cares a lot more than someone who doesn't even notice when the bill autopays.

I'm not invested in the artistic integrity of anyone's song on youtube. If he thinks self-publishing it will change the world, feed orphans, and free slaves to the tune of $7.5M...hey, great choice. He could have taken that contract money, and had EIGHT TIMES the impact that Mike Rowe's trade jobs scholarship has. He could have put that money in a trust for his descendants, and changed the future for generations of his family.

Or he could score a quick blue-collar slap on the back on FB.

Whatever. Maybe it'll play out like Tom McDonald, and he'll be a freelance success. Tom works like a dog for it though, and "Oliver" seems to have slipped and fallen into a hit. I hope it continues for him. The sentiments need more airtime.
Pure bullshit. Sign the contract and accept the money and they own you. I'm a poor motherfucker, paupers wage earning schmuck and 8 million wouldn't "buy me."
I have friends who got record deals and they had to bend the knee to the label.
