Rebuilding a NP205

So now that I know the failure and have the replacement parts, next question is best way to move forward. Do I pull the adaptor off the 205 and then install on the 203? And then reinstall the 205 onto the adaptor?

Thats how i built mine, and how i serviced it years later. That way the 203 stays together, and the 205 is installed as it would normally be.
 
I would suggest using anti-seise on any countersunk allen bolts, from my days in the aircraft industry it was said in many bulletins the lesser diameter bolt thread on an assembly where there are larger threaded bolts in the same assembly the smaller diameter bolts will fail and also if not prepper properly (anti-seise) will freeze.

Because of the design the wrench area will be smaller and not as much torque can be applied on attachment and disassembly.

And when all else fails...
"Paint" the surrounding material will splatter guard or nozzle dip to help keep you from welding the bolts to the assembly.
 
All back together. I was able to install the adaptor onto the 203 without pulling it. Then made a scabbed together fixture to install the 205 by myself. Not pretty but functional.



If I had it to do over I would pull the combo from the back of the trans. But it’s a heavy bitch.

Still gotta install the floor and drivers side & then ready to roll.

And yes, I always use anti seize.
