Portugal decriminalizing drugs

A decade later, I hear very contradictory things about how it went. How has it worked out?
 
Portugal decriminalized drugs like 25 years ago. From what I have heard from people I know there covid really brought the drug use back up.
 
Portugal was a nice place. I have been there many times. Loved it back in the early 2000's... It has become a lot like Denver or Oakland. :mad3::mad3::mad3::mad3:

The war on drugs here is just going swimmingly. It's almost as if no matter the consequences as long as there's a demand someone will find a way to be the supply side and take advantage of the inflated prices caused by the black market.

Heard that too, haven't really seen anything negative about bums from the research I did a couple years ago when we were going to take a trip there.


Generally on my two trips to Europe I didn't really see bins around. Your see a few obvious junky bums, but no encampments and none were as far gone as you see in bigger cities here. You did see junkies hanging around, Brussels was pretty sketchy. Surprisingly the train station in rural Norway was an area where there were a lot of junkies and definitely put me on edge.

Drugs are being legalized left and right.
Weed is legal in plenty of states at this point. To the point it's annoying as hell trying to go any lake or beach with family. Constant weed smoke, and it's shitty smelling weed, not the good skunky shit we used to smoke decades ago. These people feel comfortable blazing up anywhere, all the time. And it obviously doesn't work because they just keep smoking it over and over. Constantly.
Now magic mushrooms are also legal in some states. Only a matter of time before more and more is allowed.

Then we can all enjoy watching zombies all around us on our way to get groceries. This was the only reason I ever supported welfare, because I didn't want to expose my family to 3rd world conditions with humans depraved and ghouls on the streets. I just don't want to see it. Make those junkies and bums go back to the woods and back under the bridge where they belong. Out of sight.
 
I’ve been there a couple of times in the last five years .

Downtown Lisbon doesn’t look much different than any other major city in the World.
Downtown Denver on 16th street has way more pot smoke than downtown Lisbon.

The Southern coast of Portugal is nice. The only vagrant people I’ve seen there are the Gypsies. They look like the Amish running around in the horse drawn wagons and buggies but poorer.

According to the googles, it was 2001. I was in Connecticut then. But i don't recall hearing anything from the Spanish side anyway.

Back in the days, one joint would be passed around 4 people and they all got high and then no more smoking for at least an hour or two.
These days, they smoke joint after joint like it just does not work.


If you want it to be real wild west, don't arrest me when I choke the shit out of these junkies for getting stoned near my kids.

They probably bought the weed from your kids.
 
I don't know what the answer is but as someone who has had stuff stolen by the local meth group, ( they cleaned me out tools vehicles....) that are now waiting for older folks to leave their houses to ransack it, what we are doing isn't workingt. Oh if you hadn't heard Oregan has resended their law making drugs legal

Yes if I remember correctly. Personal possession was decriminalized. Using said drugs in private was decriminalized. However I believe if you get caught using them in public you have a choice of rehab or jail.
 
There are several youtube channels with mostly British expats taking advantage of, a law that allows them o pay a small fee and take over farms that have been abondaned for a time period. Most of them are heavly overgrown, houses falling down...

I remember when there was very little graffiti. Fucking everything is covered in it now. The Gypsies were a hoot! They would have a couple of grundgy looking kids begging (working) on the sidewalk. Elders would stroll up and feed them every so often and grab the loot.

I might consider going to visit......the food is fucking awsome! :stirthepot::stirthepot::stirthepot::stirthepot:

This makes sense to me. People should be arrested just like public drunkenness. I don’t care what they do in their house, but they shouldn’t be on the beach or in the parks.

Either Oregon hasn't figured out how to grow good weed just yet, or you are woefully misinformed. Being in Washington, where the growers had it figured out almost right out of the gate (even though state government did not), I suspect the latter.
