Last thread turned into a good one Modern 4 cylinder swap options

So lets try it again with a bigger car and more cylinders but similar execution. Car is a 66 Fairlane that is just the right amount of gone that I don't mind hacking it up

Things I would like:

  • Boost, which I will add
  • 3 pedals, prefer factory bolt together option
  • modern enough to have decent flowing factory head
  • cheap and plentiful
  • port injection

Things I don't want or care about
  • Factory PCM, I will megasquirt it or maybe holley terminator it
  • Antiquated oil leaking boat anchors with wheezing cylinder heads
  • LS engines
  • Brand loyalty
  • direct injection
  • Diesel

Candidates, in order of what i'm thinking

1. 3.7 V6 out of a '11+ mustang or F150 using mustang 6 speed. Only thing I don't like is that it will probably sound like garbage
2. Atlas 4200 out of a trailblazer, questionable manual trans adaptation
3. Mod motor, not crazy about the size
4. SBF, 351, kinda fails bullet point #2 on things i dont want
5. wild card, bmw straight 6, N50 something or other non vanos. I know nothing about them but a friend recommended them?

Lets hear what you've got

Here's a pic of the victim

Rethink it and throw an LS/5 speed from a 1500 Silverado.

Or do a 4.3 Rotson style.

I'd just start looking for cool wrecked vehicles in your area for drivetrains. mustangs would probably be the logical answer.

Jag DOHC 4.2 liter (hemi) straight six - adapters available to any mainstream b/h - easy to megasquirt

GM 3.8 V6 - easy to megasquirt and factory supercharger available

6.2 Diesel or an Isuzu 1.8 Diesel out of a Chevette.
Yes this but the opposite :flipoff2:

Thought about it... nope. Even though it makes the most sense

That deserves a new gas 7.3 ford.
While I agree, that is cost prohibitive. Plus this will be self tuned by an amature (me) and i'd be pretty bummed about putting a hole in one of those

I happen to know a guy that has a 3.5 eco boost complete with aftermarket wiring harness, but that unchecks several boxes for you.
It’s wide.
Direct injection
Manual choices are limited and probably won’t survive.

If you decide to get jiggy with it, that Jag motor is mine. Came out of a running XJ6 SIII VDP and has been in climate-controlled dry storage forever (with lube atop the cylinder bores). I have all of the bracketry, etc. as well.

Don't quote me but I believe the MT82 bolts up to it using 3.5 stuff. How an MT82 holds up I dunno. Not a Ford guy but they put them behind 5.0's soooo 🤷‍♂️

They don’t last long once you turn up the boost.
And ford being ford, the bell housing bolt pattern on the 3.5 is different from most other stuff. IIRC, it’s 2.7,3.5,3.7 and that’s it. So all the options you could have gotten by having the mod bhp are out the window.

Slap a tesla drivetrain in the ass for rwd. stack the batteries in the truck. Then toss a 460 under the hood with one cylinder head and the intake still bolted to it. Let it weather and drive it to shows with the hood up.

Sit back and watch the head scratching wonder in how it got there to the show

Engines id look at would be the godzilla or an older V10.

GM 267v8 that they only made for 3-4 years because they made the monte's and malibu's slower than the 60hp Chevette.

I'm sure with boring, a cam, head work, and 4 turbos you should be able to get 200hp out of it. :flipoff2:

Actually the 3.7 ford V6 is the same architecture as a 3.5 ecoboost. They are a 60 degree V6 which makes packaging great

Full crown vic swap. Engine, chassis, suspension etc...
I've got a K member and SN95 front suspension/brakes/etc for it. Already started chassis work on it with subframe connectors and whatnot

Talk me out of a mod motor though. They are plentiful and aside from the size why not?

I couldn’t make it fit in a regular cab 86 ranger (granted,I had to move the package back for weight distribution because race truck) and use my right leg. The throttle would have been to the outside of stock brake pedal location if I didn’t want leg flambeau due to turbo location.
There was a BIG hole where the firewall used to be. I didn’t strip the engine either though. I probably could have saved several inches of height.

What about the new GM L3B 2.7 turbo motor they are putting in the Silverados? 310 H.P/430 Lb tq. 250#.

It's not a huge engine bay, we have a 67 fairlane ranchero with a 289 c4. F a mod motor, too wide. Maybe if you did a tubular subframe and all that.

I was going to say m57 bmw but then you said no diesel....

Then I saw you said bmw gas. They have a ton of potential and the engine bay is kinda made for it, that'd be badass

The 3.7 6 speed is a cool idea that would make a nice driver for relatively cheap. I put a clutch in one for a guy and on my test drive I was pretty impressed, even did a little window shopping afterwards
