What's new

Pellet smoker?

How are you liking the bullseye? How is it to keep clean? Thinking I need to dump my green mountain while it's still working for one of these.
I think I said before but make sure you get the deluxe if you get the bullseye.

A lot easier to clean, better board, WiFi, better construction.

I use my ridgid leaf blower to clean it out. Super easy.

Pellet grills are great for the reverse sear on steaks. Low temp smoke and then on the flattop. Pellet also good to load a bunch of meatballs in :) with a smoke tube added.

Seriously, please tell me how you use a smoke tube without it just puffing out a bunch of white bitter smoke and creosote.

And totally agree on the reverse sear thing.

Fill tube, torch end for 2 or 3 minutes, blow out, lay down, forget about it. That's all I do with mine

not bad for a first try, the unwrapped ends of the pasta were a bit dry, I think more bacon is the solution.

I may precook the noodles first, then cut them in half and wrap with bacon next time.

Pay attention because I'm only gonna say this one fucking time.

Line the pan with foil before you put the rack in it.

Much easier to clean the pan afterwards.

Told you they'd take care of you. :smokin:

How much cooking space do you need?

The model numbers for RecTeq grills is nothing but sq in of cooking space. I went ahead and bought the 2500. I've had 18 racks, 4 butts, 4 pineapples, and baked beans on it at the same time when I had a group of car audio friends over.
It's just my wife and me, my current grill is 442 sq/in and that has been plenty. We do host friends regularly but usually not more than 6-8.

Are you guys using the pellet grills as your daily driver? I put a lot of miles on my gas Weber, and don't see one replacing a gas grill for me, but is it worth buying just for doing a few briskets and such a year?

I use mine as my only grill - bbq - smoker. I don't want to have multiple bbqs on my deck.
It does take longer to get up to temp than a gas grill, but it will do everything.
If you just want Smoke, then a dedicated offset smoker is better for it, although you do have to babysit them and fiddle with the fire.
If you will continue to use the gas grill for everything except smoking, a pellet grill probably isn't worth it.

Yep. I still have my gas grill and BGE.

200hrs on my pellet this year.

Easily my favorite bbq.

Nah, I still use the gas grill multiple times a week. It's just way faster for a lot of things. I use my pellet grill like an outside slow cooker. I don't think it's ever run for less than 2 hours.

We got our pellet this year. Did not use our weber grill once even though we restored it last year. 🤦‍♂️

I bought one for work this year. Its been very popular. I haven't seen the gas grill out since.

We made some ribeyes on it last night. Turns out nobody on my crew had tried blue cheese on a steak before.

I tend to use a tray more than tube, but with either, I get it lit and allow a flame to burn for around 5 minutes. Blow it out and put in bottom underneath drip pan.

I just put a side firebox on. Tried burning a chunk, but it gets too hot and confuses the controller. You can put a tray in the side box and it gets good airflow and drawn into the smoker. Seems to greatly reduce any bitter smoke.

Just the standard one (also on sale at recteq website right now). For 200 I'm down to check this out.

chicken thighs smoking right now :smokin:

cheap Italian sausages for an hourish at 25-275ish turn out much better than doing them on the griddle or skillet like i used to. i'd argue better than a gas grill too.

I did that this weekend. Turned out pretty good, but next time I'll split them lengthwise instead of just cut into pieces.
