Pellet smoker?

Rectec has big “parties” on the weekend in their parking lot. They have a movie screen set up and stuff for the kids and then have a bunch of their grills set up smoking various things for adults. Genius in my opinion. I just picked up a Bullseye so I don’t have to drag the 700 out for small stuff like burgers and love it. I encourage anybody to give them strong consideration over other brands.
I've been looking at the bullseye. Ususally i use my pellet for quick stuff but it can't get that hot. The bullseye looks like the ticket for the replacement.

I am loving my Traeger. I don’t think “smoker” is exactly accurate for what to call them. Pellet grill is more like it as the smoke is a little light. But I’ve found pellets that give a good flavor, much better than a gas grill. It’s a great grill that manages temperature very well. I’m still learning what I like and don’t like.

I have the 780 pro and it was built well with cleanliness in mind. It’s so easy to keep clean and get clean once dirty. It is my favorite way I’ve ever used to cook bacon. I’m OCD about messes and I can cook a whole pack of bacon on this thing and not have bacon grease splattered everywhere. Just a little pale full at the end.

Ive been really happy with mine. Bought it off FB for $250. When just doing something quick like burgers or jalapeño poppers it is much quicker and easier than dragging the big one out.

And, while I did have a very cordial conversation with the tech support this morning, a new tap and some new bolts got my handles on with little issue.

They were all set to send me a new handle, no questions asked. :smokin:

Smokin' something tomorrow night, for sue :smokin:

Yeah, I’m careful to call it smoking just in case a real person that knows what they are doing calls me out. I do think it has better flavor than gas for sure.

I use mesquite pellets, I like the heavier smoke flavor. I Need to try out some different brand pellets to see if that matters.

Ain't nothing wrong with an easy bake smoker  I'm looking forward to setting the temperature, then going to bed and waking up to my turkey or brisket being done :fj:flipflip

2014, did a side by side with Traeger and Green Mountain Grill.
GMG won hands down. Still runs strong and making great smoked meats.

The <$10 Amazon smoke tubes actually work pretty well to get more smoke out of the pellets

We bought a Traeger. It works well and for the most part I am happy. Sometimes it is a pain to get going as it seems to have an ignition issue here and there. Some of it is likely operator error though LOL

Food tastes great and we do enjoy it.

you put pellets in them... light them on fire, and the pellets smoke.

So Ive used something similar in a gas grill. You use chips for a stick smoker, soak em in water first and don’t light them on fire you stick the thing in the grill and they smoke. But you didn’t light the chips on fire. I’ll give one a try for $10 bucks

Pretty much the same thing. Dump dry pellets in, hold propane torch against the open end for 1-2 minutes, blow out any actual flames, lay down in smoker, forget about it for 5 hours if full. I got some chunk wood I'm going to try in it eventually but it works perfectly with pellets

You guys got me giving a hard look at Recteq. Thoughts on the Bullseye Deluxe (RT-B380X) vs the RT-590 or RT-700? You're only talking $100-$200 difference for the bigger grills especially since the RT-700 is on sale right now. The versatility of the Bullseye seems cool though.

I’ve tried the pellet maze add-on thing, and just bought a pellet tube. I wanted to use them for cold smoking. They don’t work. They smolder the pellets regardless of how much air I feed them, spitting out noxious white smoke and creosote. No idea how to make it put out thin blue smoke.

Maybe working inside a pellet grill with some forced air action would help, but I think those things are a scam.

I have the bullseye deluxe and my friend has the regular bullseye. I told him to get the deluxe but he didn’t listen.

Mine is flawless. He has issues with cleaning and feeding.

The only drawback to the bullseye is capacity.

Im pushing 200hours on mine this year.

I'll let you know dimensions of the 700 when I get home. It's pretty good size, but you can put it together by yourself in under an hour.

1.5 if you have friends.helping :lmao:

Only real complaint I've had so far was using stainless fasteners and the problem I had noted above.

It's at temp pretty quick, doesn't smoke much above ~250° - closer to a regular grill at those temps.

App is straightforward and easy to use.

How are you liking the bullseye? How is it to keep clean? Thinking I need to dump my green mountain while it's still working for one of these.

Wait, you're supposed to clean them? :homer:

I've done burgers, briskets, and chicken in my 700 so far. probably doing steaks next, but those might just go on the gas grill. :fj:flipflip

I figure I'll take the grease tray out...sometime.

How much cooking space do you need?

The model numbers for RecTeq grills is nothing but sq in of cooking space. I went ahead and bought the 2500. I've had 18 racks, 4 butts, 4 pineapples, and baked beans on it at the same time when I had a group of car audio friends over.

So far I’ve been very happy with it. I honestly have never cleaned it. Probably should…
