Pellet smoker?

For context I’m young but started smoking bbq when I was around 20. Got very into it and very good at it . Smoked a ton of bbq with an old friends Dad and Uncle on a well built trailer smoker . Fast forward a while into it a bunch of research led me to purchase a WSM. I cranked out tons of amazing bbq . Cooked for family , events , weddings , baby showers , etc . Love that damn thing .

Years pass I have kids and I use it less and less so I pick up a gas grill instead of the far superior kettle ( old genesis that I restored) , I loved that thing for a gasser. Years pass again I pick up the newest, latest greatest weber genesis half off at end of season and give the refurbished Weber away. I still have a Smokey Joe that I love and I’ve picked up a couple black stones , a pit boss pellet smoker and now another large pit boss pellet smoker .

All that being said to say that I hate the pellet smokers , it isn’t remotely as good, it’s an outdoor oven and that’s really it . There’s hardly any smoke, cook is way less like smoking much more like bbq’Ing and quite frankly ir sucks . This always pisses guys that are diehard pellet smokers off because they hate to hear it but it wasn’t ever meant to be better but it was meant to be easier . I also hate the new Weber . I think I’m going to take the pellet grill and weber to the lake and go back to a kettle and I ordered all new grates this week for the WSM .

For those of you that haven’t bought a pellet grill yet or have and just can’t get that excited . I highly recommend trying a WSM and if you’re unsure they’re usually cheap to pick up on Craigslist or MP because people do stupid shit and replace them with electric smokers like me . I can’t explain how excited I am to start using it again . I used to grill almost every day and smoke almost every weekend , snow, cold, hot, didn’t matter I would find a way .

The best food a man can crank out on a regular man’s budget is on a kettle for grilling and a WSM for smoking , I’ll go to my grave saying that 😁 Also, the WSM will hold temp better and longer than any pellet grill I’ve touched WITHOUT adding anything . I would routinely smoke burrs 12 hours on one load of charcoal and chunks , wouldn’t ever open it and barely have to touch it they hold temperature exceptionally well if kept out of heavy winds of course .
I agree that a pellet smoker doesn't have the same flavor as a wood/charcoal smoker. And definitely less smoke to it.

I just like the convenience of the pellet smoker. Since I can turn it on and get it upto temp quick. And do weekday meals.

If I want to do ribs, brisket, pork butts. The wsm is definitely better for that.

And having the pellet smoker along side the wsm means I can put the small side meal items in that. And not have to open the wsm as often.

Completely agree ! I like the convenience too and the ability to cook almost everything in one spot ! That is nice !

Alright, this has pissed off a lot of the RecTeq guys…

The ability to remotely turn on the smoker is being removed from ALL pellet smokers thanks to the government.

This document is about gas grilles, but they’re hitting electrics as well.

Are they trying to prevent some sort of final solution scenario?

I was planning on a formal announcement regarding the remote start tomorrow however it was prematurely leaked out. It is an industry wide regulation that is and was out of our control. No manufacture will be able to offer this feature. I wish I had the opportunity to break the news to you but that was ruined. All other features are unaffected as this regulation only applies to the remote start. Thanks for your continued support of recteq and as always we have the best and obviously the most passionate customers on the planet. I along with everyone at recteq care deeply about your satisfaction. I’m sorry for any inconvenience this causes you in the future. Sincerely, Ray Carnes Co-Founder 7062941729 my cell.
If you have questions please feel free to call me. Thanks again.

I could find very little on it online, other than the fb post from rectec I shared in my last post and one discussion group. From briefly scanning the comments in the discussion group the concern is just for remotely turning it on and the unit not being supervised. One scenario given is you leave for work and have the cover off knowing you are going to start it during the day, and a neighbor or someone working at your house thinks they are doing a good deed and put the cover back on and it starts a fire. Or if there's a failure and it starts a fire while not being monitored.

It only affects the remote on feature, you technically could still start it before you leave and control temperature and shut it off remotely if you wanted.

Or leave the grill on a deck from an apartment complex, crank open a propane tank or three and leave... then hit remote start on the grill and boom

Doesn't sound to me like anything is happening, that's the 1st meeting of several and it's just discussion at the moment. Your comment made it sound like Biden signed it into law last night.

It's definitely happening. Everything else is conjecture on your part.

The only time my pellet smoker catches on fire is after it's been running awhile, or if I'm drunk and decide to burn off the grease at high heat and forget about it....

Never happened when lighting it off. :flipoff2:

What would you guess had to happen and where to get a change enacted like this? Retirement community burned down along with some of its residents and their pets still inside because someone turned one on remotely with the cover on it?

I think your spot on simply because there's no demographic lawmakers will sympathize with harder than a bunch of rich old geezers who are too useless to do shit beyond live the condo life.

You know it wasn’t an apartment full of black people. Not that it wouldn’t be black people burning an apartment complex down with a smoker on a patio, just that no one would care enough to make a change. Same thing if it was white trash burning down a whole camper park or trailer park. Wasn’t one single house somewhere.

I’m guessing old folks community in Florida or Arizona

Black people wouldn't burn down an apartment complex with a smoker because as soon as that thing fired up they'd all be watching to see what he was smoking.

Building code and demographic differences all but guarantee it'll be Arizona over Florida.
