One Ton Cherokee Chief Build

Onto the front bumper. The goal was a low profile winch mount tucked in tight. I bought a prefab frame mount kit from TT Fab and built the rest out from there with a stick of 3/16 x 6” plate.

Of course the winch prompted charging upgrades which then snowballed into fixing / replacing a bunch of questionable wiring under the hood and dash.

New 150amp alternator, cable mains, ammeter bypass, new relay panel for fuel pump, lights, fan, etc.

aaand while I had the dash apart I decided to go ahead and upgrade gauges since I no longer needed the ammeter and several other gauges weren’t working.

I went with speedhut and designed a set of custom gauges with tach, gps speedo, and a quad with voltage, fuel, temp, oil pressure. The original dash bezel had to be cut to fit but I’m happy with how they turned out. Also made a small switch panel for lights to replace the ash tray.

I scored a good deal on a set of 5 used 37” KM2’s to replace the old dry rotted military rubber for the hardest of core grocery runs. 😎

More later..

At this point it was a marathon of sorting out misc odds and ends to get the jeep ready to roll. This took a while because of the aforementioned shitty work travel schedule.

-Rear axle got dolled up, brake lines run, new shocks.
- 20 gallon blazer tank went in since the old coffin tank was a no-go with the doubler.
-New poly motor mounts to go along with the new poly tranny x’member mounts.
-Front braided brake lines from ORD
-hydroboost conversion with larger GM master cylinder,
-PSC power steering pump to run the HB setup and steering ram, with 2pass cooler. local shop tapped the factory gear box for the hydro assist.
-New Tom Woods shafts, 1350 CV rear and 1350 standard front with super flex joint
-new exhaust to clear various new drivetrain obstacles
-picked up a set of military 37”s to roll around on
Killer build man , would you care to elaborate on the tank swap alittle more ? I'm getting tired of the wag sag I'm having on one side even with new springs. Thinking of ditching the coffin tank for a center mount tank .
