Old Barns in your area or travels pic thread

Not a fancy barn, but the wind partially ripped the roof off mine last year. Original owners sided with metal at some point or another. I had to make a decision, take the money and tear down or re roof and try to keep the barn alive. I went with the new roof. Still needs new doors on one side, but it's not going anywhere. Built in 1920.

Was built as a slaughterhouse by my grandfather probably in the 1940’s. Much of the history about the place is lost to time.

Grandfather was buying surplus horses from the army and making dog food. They brought ’em in by rail to a siding across the road. Awhile back while researching the local RR, I found a bill of lading from the last train to run that line and it mentioned horses dropped at that location.. possibly to their demise.

If you’ve driven to the Sonoma (CA) coast there’s a strong possibility you’ve driven by it.

Edit: oh, and I dug the old .22 rifle that was used to kill ‘em out of a dumpster.. it used to hang on the wall in the barn, rusting away, until someone grabbed it and stuck in in a corner in the garage. Years later I got wind if it ending up in a dumpster during a garage clean out.. rescued it and gave it some love and it’s a good shooter, though the rust pitting still shows through the re-blue job I did.

Rifle pics didn't load:flipoff2:

1st building is a winery built 100 years ago. Tractor storage now. Hand dug into the hill. Natural refrigeration on ground floor. Massive beams for the 2nd floor. Good place to hang deer.
2nd set is the the hay and milking barns from the ranch’s dairy days before my family bought it in the 1880s. Uncertain on actual age of them. Lots of up keep. Hay barn is getting a new roof soon…was on a rock foundation. Almost done with concrete all the way around.

Fuckin cool man

Did you guys put those garage door openings in the white one with hay loft? Looks aftermarket and handy af to get good use out the barn space.

No. That’s the entrance for the cows to get to the feeding troughs. Setup to drop hay into them from 2nd floor. Same with the horse stalls and tack room to right of them behind the sliding door. Black smith shop to left in the window.
