awesome.

Unlike most of the bands and singers around his time, he's not singing about getting laid, or subconsciously trying to chain a chick in his basement, or killing some guy because he's looking at his chick.

Prove me wrong. The guy is a class act, to this day.

Not such a class act imho.

We went to a live show of his a few years back and his attitude really grated on my nerves. This shows audience was pretty much old folks so keep that in mind. He came on 30 min fucking late, no sorry, no updates no nothing, it looked to us like a few people were fed up and leaving. So he finally takes the stage and the first words are all about "don't take my picture, don't take any video or you will be removed" and he meant it.

During the show we saw a lot of old people escorted out for breaking his rule, he actually would point them out to security. Then to top it off he played a short show.

Nope, that wasn't classy at all.

lol Neil Diamond is a known prima donna jerk, and his music is awful. Not as bad as The Carpenters but pretty close. Sometimes 'art' really is bad, like when it's the lowest-effort, least-risky commercial schlock like Neil produces.

I don't want everybody Comin' to America either, Neil.

No seriously tho Neil was known to be a jerk to his workers, sort of like Ellen Degeneres.

That's genuinely disappointing to hear, I've always liked his music.

Agreed, always loved his music, even as a child. Class act all day long. Ever-stooge hates him so that confirms it.

Yet just like comparing our country's leaders, Canada comes out the clear winner with having the most superior retard, even in the Neil category.
We have snivelly whiny Neil Young, fag tried to get US status too.

Evernoob will argue that Boy George is better.

I will argue that in 1991 I argued that Dave Grohl as the best member of Nirvana. No, really, I did. In a barracks on the 32nd street dryside of the Navy base in San Diego.

Nevermind was released in late September 1991, and by November 1991 I was arguing that Dave Grohl was the best musician of the generation.

I have long since developed hatred for Kurt, which developed around 1993, but Dave proved himself to be a bard. I love his spirit about music. Maybe he's an asshole personally, I don't know, but he loves music and interaction with music.

Kids today have no idea how fast it went from Hair Band to Grunge. Perhaps the only revolutionary movement of my lifetime. Unfortunately, a great number of my peers are antifags who bought into the Seattle sadness. I want to kill them, but that would be illegal. I'm just saying that in Minecraft I would carpet bomb Seattle and Portland with GPU-82s until it was all a smoldering wreck.

It's just occurred to me that it's a good thing I am not a head of State because I would make decisions.

Boy George and Culture Club had a throttle-hold on pop sensitivity during their time and deserve all credit. They are Operators.

I have unironically fantasized about beating up Neil Young and Stephen King in a bar fight. I doubt I could beat King age for age, but I could surely beat Neil. Either way, I've love to kick the shit out of both of those faggots.

Enjoy your Toxoplasmosis. Neil is a parasite siren. He's a songbird for destruction.

Shit music too though, that's what makes it easy.

Tom Jones is way better, might as well go to the source.

Sometime in the 90's, Neil Diamond played in Phx. My wife really likes him, so I got some of the last tickets. We were in the Nosebleed section before the show started. Show Security comes by, looks us over, asks if we would like to sit in Row 2. Hell yes! He said Neil reserved all of the 1st row and wanted to control who sat in row 2. We "looked safe". LOL. We had to promise not to try an touch him as he went by. He put on a great show, only marred by a loudmouth groupie who kept shouting "I love you Neil". I finally told her to shut up, he can't hear you.

I can listen to a Neil Diamond song now and then, but it's elevator music. The Hangover 2 Khao scene comes to mind...

"Khao is soft white rice in lukewarm water. It has no taste. Befitted to small babies and very old people. It is nourishment that everyone can digest. The world needs khao, just as the world needs people like Stu."..or in this case, Neil Diamond :flipoff2:

I was 18, working my ass off during the summer as a grunt for a landscaping company in the mountains of CO. This landscaper happened to have the contract to mow Neil Diamond's home in the area. I remember it taking a whole afternoon to weedwhack and mow his property.
The one time I got to meet him, he shook my hand and gave me a beer to thank me for my work that day.
I'm not a fan of his music, but Neil is OK in my book.

When I was a Kid I ranked Elvis, Tom Jones, Wayne Newton, and Neil Diamond all as geeks. Only 1 I have removed geek status from is Elvis.

No James Taylor??

EDIT: Music-wise at least. In looks, young James Taylor looks like he'd have whooped people's asses at the moon tower for making observations about his reefer

Neil Diamond is a class act indeed. In my opinion, people who dismiss him never really bothered to get to know him better. You may be tired of hearing Sweet Caroline (that's not Neil's fault, however, except if you blame him for writing it in the first place), you may not like Heartlight or Hello Again (I'm not crazy about these either), but he wrote quite some classic songs (I'm a Believer, Solitary Man, Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon...) Hot August Night, arguably one of the best live albums ever, shows a harder facet of Neil. Ever listened to the raw energy of Cherry Cherry or Holly Holy on that album? Ever watched the 1971 BBC TV Special or listened to the critically acclaimed 12 Songs and Home Before Dark albums? I mean, he's done so many different things and touched on so many different styles during his career that it's not possible, in my opinion, to dismiss him altogether. He's an excellent singer with a very distinctive voice, he's one of the most successful performers ever, received just about every imaginable award and is highly respected by his peers. And if he were such a jerk with people, as someone wrote here, would his band members have stayed with him for 30, 40 or even 50 years? Neil is actually known for being a generous, loyal and caring for the people he works with. It's stupid to say things that aren't based on anything. This is a great article to read: https://www.pollstar.com/article/apr...-career-134456

His acting is atrocious in two-lane blacktop. The role is mostly sitting in a car looking cool, but he can't even do that. He is always aware that he is acting. Part of the charm of the movie, really, is James Taylor's awful acting.

The final scene is quite the classic though.

This guy describes it well

"In a kind of dead-pan, stoned zen state of non-performance" :lmao:
