Recently found that my O'Reilly's stocks Wix filters. Might be buying from there from now on. Granted... 2 oil filters & an air filter per year aren't really that much $$$.
So shittier parts are coming down the pipe that they need to get ready for.
I'm looking to do a jeep steering shaft "upgrade" for the c10, I was looking at all the options, including the Dorman replacement steering shaft just for comparison sake.
Rockauto price was around $268 (not including shipping).
Amazon Canada $395.
Napa Canada... a whopping $518 for a fucking dorman.
A borgeson that is application specific w/u-joints also happens to be $268 (not including shipping) from Summit. I never thought I'd see the day that getting a Borgeson anything to me in Canada would be the economical choice.
Alex.
Just went to the Napa 2 blocks from my house, looking for a Torx45 and a 5/16 shallow socket.
"Out of stock on the Torx, and we don't go down to 5/16 in 3/8 drive."
OK, tards.
Drove a 1/2 mile to Oreillys, both in stock. :( I want to keep shopping Napa...
Screw Napa. Had too many rebuilt alternators and starters from there that were junk.
I recently moved to a new town and trying to learn the new best places to go. In Grand Junction Colorado, Napa is open 7 days a week, they close at 1 on sundays but keep the same hours as their competition the rest of the time. That Napa stocked stuff no other store in town did (1 other napa, 3 autozone's, 3 O'reilly's 2 carquests). They were the most expensive but if you needed something on a sunday they were my best bet and usually had the american version of whatever it was I wanted. They also had every counter person in town that didn't rely on the computer and it's list of inane questions to get me what I was looking for. Now where I live the Napa isn't even close to the same, they are run by the same computerized morons as the cheap stores.
For instance, the main stores might stock one or two lug studs for any specific vehicle. Napa kept cases of them, so if you wanted to put all 32 new lug studs and lug nuts on your 8 lug one ton on a sunday, Napa had me covered. You can't even do one whole corner from any other store.
RockAuto has every option available and I buy all my american made (or american owned) parts from there. I gotta be pretty hard up for parts to go to an O'reilly's or Autozone.
hm... I just bought 2 batteries for my F250 from the local Napa, price seemed in line with what other places had.
I been using rockauto since forever. Many options, 2 day shipping, and cheaper parts.
long time hey hey
Hard to give up the service and inventory of Napa in GJ.
I think its like any other parts store, online shopping has killed a lot of their business. You have two choices, a store that has knowledgable employees with parts at higher prices, or lower priced parts with "my computer doesnt show that".
Used to be a profession with dedicated people who knew their shit. Now it's no better than " would you like fries with that".

Napa counter guys are working on commission with bonus levels, business discount will get you maybe 30%.
Yep. Long gone are the days of the oily stainless steel countertop and the smell of burnt Maxwell House emanating amidst the lingering odor of a Camel nonfilter being smoked at that very moment by the owner in his office. The counter guy also had a cafe brown tinge to his mustache that to him, looked sexy. His name was Fred, as displayed by the embroidered patch above the cigarette pocket on the thin navy blue poly-cotton knit shirt. You could smell hypoid grease coming from somewhere very close by, but couldn't find the source as you glance left and right. A clear plastic display of "marvels mystery oil" with the handle sticking out so you could turn the gears and watch it lubricate... was unmistakably drawing you to turn it while "Fred" looked at his parts manual because the days of a digital database were yet to be born...
Ya, NAPA was expensive back then too.
Whoa
you still in Golden?

And don’t forget after 430ish. Beers are cracked and hidden under the counter. Sneaking sips between customers. 5pm rolls around and it’s time to close the doors and thats when the regular customers show up with a 12 pack in hand. Roll the back door up, crank the swamp cooler down, the counter man is doing day ends and counting the cash box, he’ll be back there in a minute.
Every time I drive by the old warehouse, I sure miss those nights. I wish I would’ve known that era was coming to an end.
