What's new

My shitbox needs a new engine

Surprised they don't include a basic gasket set (maybe they do?). SandJ included gasket set and break-in oil.

Soooo... Fuck Powertrain Products.

They sent me an email stating it would be 4-6 weeks before it ships.

Checked the web site:

So I called and said WTF? It says in stock.

'Oh, that just means we have a core.'

'And availability means it will ship 24 hours after they finish building it'.

Cancel that shit.

Hard to find a V code one around here... LKQ doesn't even have them listed.
Why does it matter? There’s no difference that matters in the long block around those years.

2001 V code was flex fuel and had different pistons/heads or some shit... read up on it last time I had issues and forget the details.
Yeah. I researched all that shit when I got the engine for my Ranger 5yr ago. I'm like 99% sure that at some point, like 02-03, somewhere in the plastic manifold years, they all got the flex fuel compression.

In any case it shouldn't really matter because they're all gonna be cheap as fuck.

lots of tore-asses were flex fuel too, they got the sensor on the strut tower

you get this thing going again yet?

Flex fuel Taurus is the desirable 3.0 for the slightly higher compression.

I’ve put like 10k on it this summer. Need to make it a non running project again hence the supercharger.

Whatever. You got the context, I don't care. Caring about some hypothetical future reader is for when I'm at work.

It never stopped going, it is a constant CEL with low compression on Cyl 4 and I just need the problem to go away, but the truck to stay.

i will start looking for a tore-ass with the V code as a donor.

These things are gutless though, so I may need to do something different later.

Yep. I did a half-ass re-ring about 75K miles ago and here we are... but the CEL will fail the mandated safety inspection so I am at the point that I have to fix it.

i did find a V code engine... 150 miles away and still in the vehicle at a pick and pull...

Seems like someone to start a business pulling parts at a pick and pull for a flat fee... I know I would pay to be able to just drive down and pick it up....

I know someone who goes to pick n pulls to get specific high-profit parts, brings them home, then lists them on eBay for massive profit. Its his full-time job.:homer:

4.7 stars on 7,700 reviews
A little late to this, but make sure you read a bunch of the highest star reviews and make sure it's not all fuckin BOTS. I went through this recently - needed a PCM for my Jeep. Found a seller with a good review, and ordered - long story short they sent me a shipping update "you PCM will ship today" and then ten minutes later "We cannot fulfill your order, but we can send you a new one for an additional $350". Cancelled that shit, and looked at the reviews a bit more carefully - ALL bots. Except for the 1 or 2 star reviews, which were CLEARLY not bots.

'01 should be safety only and they shouldn't be failing it for a CEL. That's the whole point of safety only. Both my '99 Frontier and '02 Xterra's dashes are lit up like christmas trees and they pass every year. Safety only means lights, horn, brakes, parking brake, seatbelts, tires, and glass.

He's in PA so lord knows it's probably included in the "safety" inspection.

They gotta make work for the mechanics and exhaust shops and whatnot.

Nope... My user name is from when I lived in PA and on the old place... Kept it when I moved to NC when I get to see bgaidan and the piece of shit he is holding for you... ;)

I really need to get that picked up. Still tentatively targeting this fall.

Yeah, I know. :shaking:

I don't like it either because it's yet another fucking thing to do hanging over my head. Might just fuckin send it with no fucks given on short notice some weekend. IDK.

I'm thinking I might even splurge the $100 on the Uhaul because it'll make loading and unloading much more favorable and shave 2k of weight off my total for ~8k on the heavy leg.

Other than vertical milling machines substantially under $1k is there anything I should be looking out for that I can bring down there to subsidize my trip?

Fuuuuuuck, I hate thinking about the crushing burden of all the shit I gotta do.

I though you were targeting LAST fall...

Anyway, when you come down bring me one of those common V code 3.0 engines.... BGaidan can hold it for me... ;)
Yeah sure I guess. That'll be like $200-400 depending on which one you want of car-part

Loading won't be a problem.

Any working Bridgeport that's not obviously clapped out will fetch a minimum of $2k here.

I'll start trolling marketplace for shit I need that can help with your gas bill.

Vehicle inspections are bullshit.
