Mosquito Control

I've been told the ones that use a propane tank to generate CO2 to attract them are the shit.

it's what the local golf course uses.
Yeah, and those are really expensive, too. But they do work. Not sure how big of an area a single machine can handle, though.

I like to the sound of the pro-tech or whatever, but Amazon won't ship to commie CA.
I've used a chemical called Tempo SC ultra in the past, and while my goal at the time was to kill of fleas and ticks I'm pretty sure it helped knock down the skeeters some, too.

i love lightning bugs on a summer night.
Never seen them in my life and would love to someday.
What states are the best chance to see some?

Never considered it not being national kinda thing.

I’d guess somewhere with hot and humid/ sultry nights.

I used to have a DynaTrap at my old house in a city. It caught a lot of insects including mosquitos. I should have had two one for the back yard and one for the front but i just had the front. It definitely had no effect on the backyard but that could have been due to the significant separation.

I just put up 8 of these. I've used them for a few years. They seem to work. I don't think i got any bites last year. I'm about a month late in getting them up this year.

Bifen XTS, kills anything windows an exoskeleton. Act the chemical na,e is bifenthrin, anything that ends in “thrin” is a same anolog, it’s the most potent chemical you can buy for bugs and it harness to humans and pets.
I put a couple drops in the dog shampoo and that take care of the flees.
You typically buy a quart that’s about 25% active ingredient and you only mix a little bit to a gallon of water.
It’s abs the best thing to use.
My brother is a MIT Ph.D chemist

I have one and a mosquito magnet. The magnet works much better. Costs about $25 a month to run though.

1.5 +/- weeks into hanging the 4 pack of t he Spartan mosquito Pro Tech and I can be outside my house any time of the day and not see any mosquitos or get bit. The little bastards were building up bad to where I wore long sleeves and lots of Deep woods Off to hold them back. I put these things out and just spent all day I a sleeve less and shorts from dusk to dawn and didn't even hear one let alone get a bite.

In a little late...but DDT will work great.

When applying at our customers we use bifenthrin and an insect growth regulator.

Unless we get several turd floaters, we get a good month of control. Sometimes longer.

A friend of mine swears he has the solution. He puts out several 5 gallon buckets of water, with dirt and grass clippings in them. make it really perfect for mosquitos. Then he puts one of the mosquito killer donuts in each one. Make sure you keep any other water sources empty. Since Mosquitos don't travel very far from where they are born, forcing them to lay eggs in the designated area kills them off over a few breeding cycles.

I haven't tried it yet but it's worth a shot, they are eating me up at the shop.
I set out 4 of these buckets on June 6th the night before we left for vacation. my property is 3/4 acre rectangle. One bucket is on the front porch, one on the back deck, and buckets are set at the rear corners by the shop and playset.

i used 1/2 of a dunk in each bucket, which seems to be working well. i put about 4 gallons of water and a small handful of grass clippings to make the water gross. i also made sure there was no other water sitting anywhere close.

As of last night, we have had 0 mosquito bites. It is really hard for me to believe these are working that well, but no one has been bit. My boys and i were outside until 11:30pm working on getting a free scooter running, and none of us got bit. My wife was pulling weeds from the flower beds until it got dark, and the same thing.

When i got home on June 17th, i noticed some mosquito larva squirming around in one of the buckets, but that was the only time. Since then, there has been nothing.

Menards has the dunks on sale right now Mosquito Dunk® Biological Mosquito Control - 6 Pack

Anyone else running a mosquito magnet?

I bought one finally, Remember reading about how amazing they are years ago. Supposed to keep at least an acre clear.

Tried everything, including the little propane powered black fag foggers. It would chase the bugs off for like 10 minutes and that is it. Yard sprays, I have spent hundreds on this already this year.

So I bought this thing, been running just over a week.

Overnight I see like 40 mosquitos in the catch net. See 20-30 new ones every morning when I check it.

Any tips to get the most out of this thing? I am running the secondary attractant as well.

Originally set up in our Gazebo and it keep them off of us. Now it seems to attract them to that area. So I need to move it. The instructions say 30-40ft from where you are sitting.

So should it be sitting near the flowers and bushes or out in the open?

I moved it this morning about 20ft away. But it is surrounded by flowers and plants. Wondering if that if hindering the ability to reach out farther.

They say it takes up to 4 weeks to really see a reduction but in the first week I think I got bit once until last night we could see them swarming the gazebo. So I know it is doing something.

Just looking for tips. Would love for it to be as mosquito free as they claim. Maybe I just need to wait longer to see results that I expect?

Our property backs up to a swamp and is overrun with mosquitos. Last year we paid a guy $300 to come spray them and it cut the population for about a week. I'm thinking about just buying a sprayer to do it myself, but no nothing about them. What to look for in a sprayer and what chemicals to use.

Stihl has the SR200 that seems like it would be fine for my 5 acre property and is $460. So two sprayings from the lawn company and I would have this thing paid for.

Anyone know anything about these sprayers?
At one time I was looking at professional mosquito sprayer you tow behind a 4-wheeler. I’ll see if I still have a link, but I bet it’s higher than giraffes pussy with inflation.

I was looking at one more industrial, but this was generally it.
Are giraffes into that now?
im a short guy… too much scaffolding involved for that kind of kink.

Dang...a backpack mister like the Stihl would be a heckuva lot easier to use.

Not sure if I even mentioned it or maybe someone else did. Bifenthrin is the go to for skeeter killing.

SHould get a lot more than a week of control out of it. We mix an IGR with it and get a solid month. Unless it rains biblically.

I have one, smaller version. It catches skeeters. This year hasn't been too bad for them at home even though it's swamp and wetlands toward the lower part of my property. Prime moose habitat.

Would be nice if it ran on natural gas. Uses a propane tank in 3-4 weeks and that's around $20

What I didn't realize until I got one, those fuckers are top heavy and awkward to put on with 4 gallons of mix sitting right on top. Heavy in general with fuel and mix.

They are. But I had a female employee who did it for me. It wasn't a whole day, but still.

I remember 15 years ago or so when they came out it was a really bad year. Had one neighbor with ponds and standing water everywhere and not one mosquito. He was emptying bags full of dead ones. I know they work. I just started too late in the year to be enjoying it now.

$20 + the second attractant every month is still cheap compared to what I have spent already this year.

But you are right, Natural gas would be a nice conversion.

I bought the independance model. Runs on C batteries which I will probably convert but it is supposed to work for 1.5 acres.

Read about how it is supposed interrupt the breeding cycle.

It works, I see it already.

Just not sure where to move it too for it to be the most effective.

Having it close to where we sit attracts them to where we sit? So it needs to be farther away apparently.

Yesterday morning I moved it away from where we sit. It might be 15ft away instead of 20 but among the largest plants.

So last night, got a couple bites, little bummed.

Went and checked it this morning and when I grabbed the lid they swarmed, it was like a OFF commercial. There had to be hundreds right there. Just not sucked in yet.
Can't wait to see it tonight.
