Mosquito Control

this year feels like the small little bugs are way worse than years past. i too am looking into something to help with that. hanging a bat house tonight for starters, but that wont help for awhile.
I want this to work.

I want to buy one, but I can't make it work in my brain. Why would a bat be flying around and say, "that thing looks better than something in nature or the place I've been hanging, I'm moving in here". ???

In my head, at my place, I see this being a wasp house, or a dirt dauber house.

If it does actually attract bats, PLEASE let us know.

i totaly dont understand my self why they want to go to this wooden box and live. i got nothing. but heard it works. and also heard having bats dont really make that much difference in the bug population either. experiment for sure

Missed the edit. Oh well.

So which are the ones to get? Going to order some for my dads place for when we go up in July. They are horrible once the sun goes down even with all the citronella candles, spray, and the bug zapper.

Dragon flies take longer to show up here then the mosquitoes, and when they do I need 100x more dragon flies to do anything

Dragon fly nymphs eat mosquito larvae so dragon flies are mosquito killers before they take flight.

Do you have bats that live in the area? It's cool seeing our guys hunting at night.

Yes there is bats, I see a few around my place, but I wouldn't say a ton. My parents seem to have more at their place on a nearby lake.

I should build a bat house and see what happens. Every now and then one or two hang out in the eaves above our decks.

i've been thinking of making a couple of these:

but, we have barely had any rain in the past two weeks and there are 0 mosquitos out. with no rain in the 10 day forecast, this could be a great summer for no mosquitos...but potential drought conditions when the farmers need rain for the crops...

It looked like the pro tech and the eradicator are two different products ?

Amazon only lists the pro tech
But the eradicator is sold on eBay ?

Who has years these ?
Wanna report in ?

Ok, apparently I've been using the Eradicator all these years, and now they only make the Pro Tech. I'm sure they're not going to work worth a shit because that's how life goes.

I just hung a set of Pro Techs while ago... we'll see i guess.

I find things online about them.

They’re sued for bogus product
I can tell you for a fact the original Eradicator version was not bogus in any way shape or form.

45acp

I’ll find out as well.

I hung 8 of Pro Techs on my 2/3 acre yesterday.

I plan on to try make that black bucket thing too.

And throw few mosquito dunks in the swamp behind my place.

I hate them.

^ yea I didn't even know there were 2 versions. I've been buying these (eradicator) at a little hardware store by my house. Owner said last week "we can't get them anymore, they quit making them". I finally figured it out when ordering them online.

If you can find the eradicator anywhere it's going to be old stock.

I've been told the ones that use a propane tank to generate CO2 to attract them are the shit.

it's what the local golf course uses.

A friend of mine swears he has the solution. He puts out several 5 gallon buckets of water, with dirt and grass clippings in them. make it really perfect for mosquitos. Then he puts one of the mosquito killer donuts in each one. Make sure you keep any other water sources empty. Since Mosquitos don't travel very far from where they are born, forcing them to lay eggs in the designated area kills them off over a few breeding cycles.

I haven't tried it yet but it's worth a shot, they are eating me up at the shop.

any updated on the pro tech vs eradicator ones 45acp

or anyone have more input
They work good... not as good as the original Eradicator but definitely working. Can hang in my yard right now and maybe swat one... go up to my neighbors (uphill, no standing water, 1/8th mile away) and get completely ate up.

Will continue using them.

Fired up the magnet and the other thing (forget the name). Been catching some, but hardly any skeeters so far this year.

It's all swampland, wetland and a couple ponds and lakes down the hill from my place, so prime mosquito land.
Last year it was almost impossible to be outside toward evening. To the point they'd even tried sucking on my eyeballs, in my nose, ears, down the shirt, etc.

So. The mosquito magnet don’t work for you?

I have been spraying my yard using the mosquito sniper and these two chemicals. I used this last year and started early this year. It lasts about 3 weeks before i have to re-apply.

I spread bifenthrin granules on the acre immediately surrounding my house and patio. I spray pyrethrin on the dog porch, dog houses, and outdoor beds. If I'm having a party, I'll also spray Cutter Backyard Bug Control on the hose-end sprayer on the patio, walls, and outdoor furniture a day before.

We had a bug zapper out by the hot hub that worked well
The ants in the woods found out about it, and they had a line hauling the carcasses off keeping everything clean on the deck

for water
We kept gold fish in the water troughs, they are tougher than you think, and when you forget and dump them on the ground, just pick them up and put them back
We didn't feed them or care for them for years, no larva at all, and the algae was in check keeping things clear
Even when things froze, they make it

and
of course bats

So. The mosquito magnet don’t work for you?
"Been catching some, but hardly any skeeters so far this year"

I set it up about 2 weeks ago and have only filled the collector about 1/4 so far. Usually it fills up in a week.

My issue is that I have a pretty nice little ecosystem going.
Fire Flies
Dragon flies
Etc.

When I go to kill the mosquitoes… there goes the fire flies.

And while the mosquitoes at my place can stand flat footed & fuck an ostrich, i love lightning bugs on a summer night.

Tldr
First knee-jerk reaction
:lmao:
We're not gonna win. not this battle...
2
can you even get a real chemical to do the job?
Here if it works it's banned...
