Is anyone here taking it? I’ve been severely lacking on sleep for close to 20 years. My wife is trying to ween me off of my current pill of choice. She says it’s linked to Alzheimer’s. She bought me a bottle of the stuff today. What say ye? Snake oil? Thanks in advance:flipoff2:

I take a magnesium blend that contains glycinate. I feel I get quality sleep but I wouldn't expect a sleep-inducing effect like a sleeping pill. I've tried GABA and L-theanine supplements. Those seemed to make me want to doze off.

I do not sleep, I run on 3-5 hours sleep a day.

It fucking sucks but I get a lot of work done!

For me being able to take a 20 min nap most days makes it manageable.

I used to take Benadryl and that helped but I stopped taking it after hearing it can have bad health effects.

Taking a 1/4 xanax also helps but those are hard to get so I rarely take them.

Benadryl fucks me up.

I can take it once a week at most. If I take it 2 nights in a row, it triggers anxiousness in my joints and muscles.
If i take it i have to let my body reset for days before i can go back to that well.

wife swears by the magnesium. they just published a big study that it has long term health benefits etc

me, i just gave up caffeine cold turkey in May. fall asleep whenever I want to

Im going to sound like a dick
but try working harder, like physically putting in more work
split wood or something, you will sleep

when I can't sleep, I try to do this, go for a bike ride, cut some wood, weedeat, just do something

To clarify I take Benadryl. Been taking it for several years. The issue is that I take 4 to 6 a night. I usually stick with 4. Anymore I can feel it the next morning. I’ve tried Trazedone a couple of times. Both times it gave me fucked up dreams. As for working out I do that 5 days a week. I would just like to get more that 2 to 3 hours a night.

I eat chocolate cookies made with cannabis it seems to work.

I have taken ambien twice in my life and only because I absolutely positively needed to get to sleep before some important event. Both times, the next day I went OFF on someone, like completely tore them a new one. Haven't taken it since.

I know the feeling. The last thing I need to do is wake up at 3 AM and kill my wife in her sleep. I already have weird dreams as it is.

The glycinate variety of magnesium is the best (readily available in my area) form of magnesium for you, so yes take it. All the other bullshit magnesium such as stearate, citrate and especially oxide, should be avoided in favor of glycinate.

And mag "bysglycinate" is even better than glycinate. They are both chelated (bonded to glycine molecules) but the bisglycine is bonded to 2 molecules for better bioavailability, where glycine has only 1 molecular bond.

Magtein L-threonate (another magnesium supplement) yet again is even better (crosses the blood-brain barrier) as it's a precursor to magnesium and also an essential amino acid... aka magnesium L-threatine.

Both bys and threonate magnesium aren't easy to locate anywhere. Drug stores, warehouse markets, sprouts, whole foods etc or anywhere else just do not fucking carry it. Pisses me off that i can't just go and buy the good shit. :homer:

Side notes, IME people should avoid benadryl completely and also ditch the melatonin (long term). I know i know, hospitals will toss you a benny in a paper cup but that shit is NOT a good drug. Diphenhydramine (benny drill) is the devil in disguise, don't ask me to get into it, thanks. :flipoff2:

My wife takes magnesium something or other.

I just go to sleep.

Women in particular benefit more from taking bysglycinate than men do. Don't have any info to back up the reason but it's in medical literature somewhere, guaranteed.

Magnesium to calm the body, 2mg of melatonin to calm the brain. Melatonin is only to be used a for a short time to re-align the natural amount in your brain. Also cut sugars, caffeine, heavy foods 6-8 hours before sleep and drink plenty of water all day.

I never took anything to sleep at all, but when I got hit with mega doses of prednisone last year I stopped sleeping. I tried it all, but I was never a fan of Benedryl, Ambien scared the shit out of me because I felt like I was hanging on by a thread mentally anyway, My GF started taking Magnesium powder because she wasn't sleeping in lieu of worrying about me, it was called Recess Mood. That shit and some tart cherry juice before bed worked well for me, every once and a while I still need to break into the melatonin, but there was for sure a benefit with that combo.

you have drug cocktailed yourself into not sleeping. and its been going on so long its going to take a reset.

i think you should give up all caffeine, no more Benadryl, drink 150 ounces of water a day, and try something like the sleepytime tea at night.

it may take several weeks but your body needs to get reacclimated to not being pumped full of junk.
