What's new

Lincoln MK VIII?

Anyone here had one? What were your impressions?

Found a decently priced, clean looking example about 3 hours away from me.

Provided the carfax doesn’t raise any red flags I’m planning to take a drive this weekend to check it out and possibly buy.
I am on my 3rd one....

TLDR: Welcome to the club and what are your real questions now... ;)

After the first day of driving, I love the car. Wish it still had the air ride, just so I could experience it, but it’s not bad with the coils. I do want to lower it a bit, especially the front.

Things I need to address:
1. Odometers are not working. From what I read it’s probably a broken gear or gears in the cluster. Maybe a motor

2. Headlights suck. Need to order some LEDs

3. Passenger window doesn’t roll down. Probably the regulator. Motor works fine

4. Instrument panel light dimmer is wonky. The lights went out within a block of the previous owner’s house after I picked it up. Fiddling with the dimmer got them to come back on.

Going to swap the aftermarket wheels on today, that will also give me a chance for a good visual on the brakes, steering and suspension.

Don't do that douchebag move there.

The housings are not made for them, all you do is blind the shit out of oncoming traffic.

Polish your housings or replace them, don't be that POS guy I want to murder when I am trying to drive home at night.

IF...and I mean IF he is able to find some original LSC HID housings he could go with HID bulbs. But be prepared to pay dearly for said housings though. I paid $700 for the pair I found. That was with bulbs, ballasts, plug n play harnesses. I removed them and sold them before I donated the car to the carjacked family.

my current one has the same problem... Low mileage... ;)

Nope... the problem is the housing is shot... No reflective material in there doing it's job.

same common ford rebuild kit with the 3 round plastic pieces.... About 1 hour including door panel removal...

Yep... common issue... new dimmer.

Don't forget pics

I have some original front stuts... I can't remember if I swapped them because of a leak or bad compressor... just in case you REALLY wanna see what it is like.

Eddie at American Auto Air used to do a lot with these... he is a dick but he knows his stuff.

I have some more spare parts, but hitting deer made the inventory drop a bit...

Some shit I wrote and donated may still be here...

Even finding regular halogen housings can be difficult. The PO replaced the driver’s side but apparently was not able to source the passenger side housing.

I’ve run led replacements in my previous vehicle and my truck. I get flashed occasionally in the truck, but the headlights on that are pretty much at eye level for regular cars. Never got flashed in my van.

I’ll take some pictures tomorrow. The fit for the aftermarket wheels is pretty good, but it really amplifies the fact that I need to get the ride height down. I need to drop it 2”-3” in the front and a good 2” in the rear. It’s got a lift master could swap kit on it, which to my understanding is not sold anymore.

IIrc there were 2 kits... stock and lowered.

I quick change is the Tbird stuff in the front. Rear is a bit harder as the coil buckets are a different animal on the bottom.

Tbird upper and lower control arms are also a direct fit for a coil converter Mk8

I had a 98? I believe, really nice car with a 4 valve mod motor, guy was told the air ride system was fucked so I got it cheap, he was fucking pissed after I fixed it in his parking lot with a couple feet of air line and a few push lok fittings

Mark VIII's were a pretty cool car in their day, 300HP, got good mileage, it was the "Hot Rod Lincoln"
I've scrapped a few Mark VIII
I had a Mark VII, 1984.... with a factory diesel, yep lock it up on Rockauto, they made about 300 of them.

I had my son take it to work last week to give it a good once over. A few minor leaks (radiator, trans pan, maybe front cover). aside from that everything looks good.

Swapped the radiator this week, but apparently I either left something loose or got a bad part. Drove it to work this morning and came out this afternoon to find a small puddle underneath the core support, almost dead center of the cart. The old rad had a leak on the passenger side where the core was crimped to the plastic tank.

I'll have to pull the fan back out to get a good look at what is going on.:mad3:

Finally got around to taking a picture

I’m not sure why it took me so long, but did my first burnout in this car today. Held the brakes for a second, matted the throttle and let er rip. Nice and Smokey. Laid about a 60’ patch in front of the house. Got a nice chirp shifting into second as well.

Whats it got for gears? I think most m8s came with 3.73s if memory serves

Honestly, I don’t know. I can tell you that from a dig it will barely chirp the tires, but get a little rpm first and it will light them right up. It was a 1 wheel peel, but the LR, so I’m thinking it has a limited slip.

I need to do some homework and see what it’s got.

Very nice. Still enjoying it i take it then?

. Should be a tag bolted onto the diff cover somewhere, 3 73 is open, 3L73 is limited slip, exchange the numbers for whatever ratio it is.

Not sure how familiar you are with ferds..

Or it's on the drivers side door sticker, but I don't know what the codes translate to. Easy to look up.

I love driving it, but have been sticking to nice days only. The weather lately has been all over the place.

We have a company track day at the M1 Concourse on the 25th. I’m tempted to take it out for a couple laps.
That could be really fun. It won't top the board i imagine if anybody there has a real decent weekend warrior but it will almost definitely surprise some of them and do better than they expect. Shame though I was hoping you would hate it so you would sell it to me for tree fitty:flipoff2:

Our owners have a fleet that includes more corvettes than I can count, hellcat challengers and Shelby mustangs. I’m sure a couple of those will be available to whoever wants a turn at the wheel.

So no; my 30 year old Lincoln will not be at to top of the board.

It would still be fun to she how she does.

I’m pretty familiar. I’ve been a ford guy since I was a preteen. Just have been too busy with other projects to really think about this car. Once the Mustang is out of the garage I’ll probably spend some time on the Lincoln.
