Lincoln MK VIII?

Don't expect low 30's mpg. Physics rule that impossible, never mind the maths.

Never mind Google search :flipoff2:

As I said regarding the 34 mpg that's nostalgia and or bad math. It cant and wont add up. 3,800 lbs and a complex V-8, 4-sp auto, no matter how slippery in the face of a 65 mph head wind, or worse yet 70 mph is an equation, not an opinion or a memory. And you cant solve for X and get 34 mpg. :shaking:

If I average around 20 I’ll be happy

It will probably do right around that highway. Way lower in town. Thats how it was for marauders which are heavier. Also there are alot of idiots in this thread between the guys comparing a car two generations older that aren't going to compare to this for shit and the clb level morons rambling about jags and 4.9 v8s for some reason. That said...

Underneath it shares quite a bit of architecture with the new edge and sn 95 mustangs combined with air suspension bits. The air stuff is pretty non-existent these days but there are fairly cheap deletes and it wont really ride much worse without it depending on what setup you use. Or if you are looking for performance bits its not hard to put new edge stuff under it.

The engine is more in common with a marauder or mach one than a cobra. The blocks are teksids which are stout but the internals less so than the later cobras. The worst thing about most 4.6s is the early ones as they age do have a few things that tend to fail but are mostly easy fixes if you have some skills.

A kid in my neighborhood got his Dad's 1970 MK III as a first car in HS. Damn thing wore out rear tires at an alarming rate. Those old 460's made some pretty good power. Looked just like the one in The French Connection.

Throw some pics of it up. :smokin:

Will do when I'm up there in a couple weeks. Its my Dad's they bought it newish from the dealer with 18k miles on it. Initially it was my Moms until 2000 and was his daily driver up until 2014. My friends parents had the LSC and after bombing down hwy 17 in that car multiple times talked my Dad in checking one out.

x2 on all of this and they're fucking cheap.

Great daily for a car guy.

Had 2 of them. A 94 and a 96. Paid $500 for the '94, had 212K on it. A/C blew snowballs, got 21 mpg (I call bullshit on 30+mpg) and I beat on it at the track weekly. Ran 15.1@9x mph no matter what you did. Drove it 2-1/2 years until the trans gave up, think I sold it for $300.

The '96 was nicer overall but the A/C didn't work, 108K on it. Donated it to a family on the local news, Dad got carjacked.

Both had been coil swapped.

They can be electrical nightmares.

I liked the 1st gen interior better.

Fun luxobarges.

There was a '98 on mktplace just the other day in FL that was sinful......Terminator swapped, 6 speed, 500 wheel, fukin' luscious. Whole car had been gone over and was flawless. 20K or best offer. If my buggy had sold I would have bought it.

For reference on a somewhat comparable car, my current DD is a 2000 Cadillac Eldorado, with the 300HP Northstar :flipoff2:

I'm lucky to get 23MPG on the highway. My mixed average is 18MPG.

I used to own a bunch of supercharged 90s Rivieras (3.8). Everyone and their cousin will tell you they get 28-30 MPG on the highway. I never came anywhere close to that.

The one I am interested in is a 93 with 75,000 miles. Carfax checks out and it’s a WV vehicle that has been in Michigan less than a year. The seller appears to be a flipper, so I’m going to have to go over it thoroughly.

There’s also a 95 with almost 2x the mileage that is more local. My son knows the owner that has it previous to the current owner. He’s going to see if there are any red flags.

With the m8 look into which headlight bulbs it uses. It's been a long time since I had to remember this, but some of them had HID bulbs that have been completely obsoleted and the replacement kit isn't (wasn't?) inexpensive.

I’ve read a little about that. If that’s an issue for me I’ll probably convert to LED.

If your lucky enough to be eying an LSC. Those had HIDs, the housings are entirely different from non LSC. Non LSC were crippled with the worst headlights known to man.

No... I think the first year's tbirds take that crown. Especially once these bad boys get a little hazy. I've seen tea candles put out more light.

Read on the wiki that an essentially stock one topped out at 188 mph verified. I'll see if I can find that to enthuse some of you :homer:

Edit: - Lincoln Mark VIII - Wikipedia

"Under direction of Jim Kennedy, Senior Ford engineer, a team of engineers was assembled to take a stock Mark VIII to the Bonneville Salt Flats in October 1992 to compete in the World Finals, attempting to exceed the existing class speed record of 163 mph. John Engfehr and Henry Neubauer from the Ford engine lab headed up the engine performance team at the salt flats. The Mark VIII ran an official Southern California Timing Association average speed over two runs of 181.171 for the new record.[citation needed][15][16][17][18] This car was rediscovered by Land Speed Racers in Texas who restored the car to its original racing form in 2021 and hold three new land speed records in the stock under 5 liter class for the 1/2 mile, 1 mile and 2 km. with the East Coast Timing Association."

Doesn't come with the wheels and tires at that price, but that's a probability a good thing, lol. Those tires look way oversized for some reason.
They look ok to me, but it’s not the easiest to tell from the pictures.

Depending on how much extra he wants for them I will likely spring for them as it would be on my list of things to do anyway

My dad had a 2009-11 town car and would regularly get 24-27 highway, but that was fairly flat freeway almost exclusively. I've had an 89 and a 94 ad they were both around 18 combined and low 20's highway.

Cadillacs are for pimps, gangsters drive Lincoln :flipoff2:

The town car has better gears (almost definitely 2.73s) for gas mileage and is a 2 valve so way less hp. The mark 8 usually has a 3.42 or there abouts.

I would whip that ugly bitch all day long seven days a week without shame and twice on sundays. Because fast old people cars are :smokin:
Just got back from meeting the owner and test driving. It not perfect, a few dings and scratches that you can’t see from 10’ away. Drives great, plenty of power for me. The underside is immaculate. Interior is excellent except for a sagging headliner in the rear. Overall, it’s a beautiful car.

I’m picking it up tomorrow for $5,500.00 with the extra wheels :smokin:

You overpaid :flipoff2:

My grandmother bought a '98 mk8 LSC new. Around 50k my sister inherited in till ~90k, I ended up with it for a parts donor.

They're neat in concept, and a mf'er in execution. Like any other 'luxury' brand.

10+ years ago, I replaced the bags with coils and there was something about the dumb headlights that cost $700 at the time.

It's out on the fence row, fuck that car. The engine and IRS will live on, but again, fuck that car.

Anyone who thinks it'll knock down 30mpg is high and/or retarded. Low 20s at best in ideal environment.

Already coil swapped, so no problem there. This car was pre hid headlights, so again, no problem.

The market for these things is all over the place. I’m good with what I’m paying.

I’ll hit you up if I need any parts :flipoff2:

Don't listen to him. He's just angry his sister got a cool car for free and used it to get all the dick he was after:flipoff2:
