Anyone here had one? What were your impressions?

Found a decently priced, clean looking example about 3 hours away from me.

Provided the carfax doesn’t raise any red flags I’m planning to take a drive this weekend to check it out and possibly buy.

Back when Continental meant something.
I remember my pepere saying a man had achieved "it" when he could buy a Continental or Caddylac. This was way before people took out loans, never mind 6+ year loans at $700 a month.

I bought one non-running my freshman year of college for $800 then never got around to getting it running. They're cool cars, and they have a pretty innovative suspension system. They have a cult following, info is pretty readily available.

For now that old '96 is just going to be a pallet that's storing my teksid 4.6 until I do something with it someday :flipoff2:

Daily drove a ‘96 for several years.

300 hp, comfy as shit, low 30 mpg’s.

Sold it when the wife wouldn’t stop popping out kids.

Would by another in a heartbeat.

That's the kind of feedback I was looking for. This is going to be my DD. The kids have cars of their own now.

Never had the mk8, but had the thunderbird, same platform, 2 valve instead of 4. Great driver, high 20s mpg. No wind noise. Sold it when the transmission started acting funny. The drive shaft goes thru the fuel tank, so the only way to pull the trans is dropping the front suffrage with the motor/transmission and or dropping the irs to pull the drive shaft. Back then, it was rare to do that kind of work, trans job cost more than the car was worth. Nowadays, that kind of work is common. Always though they would be good parts swap cars for a full fender car.

They can be a serious pain in the but. Ford bought Jaguar in the early 90's so they could get the modular v8 jag had been working on for a decade. That was the start of the plastic composite parts boom where they tried to make everything cheap. It's got plastic water necks, crossovers, climate control valve and distribution spiders. They don't stand the test of time. I know the aftermarket started making jag aluminum replacements but I have no idea about the 4.6. It's not a car you can drive without fixing I can tell you that.
I remember years back I had the sexiest jag you've ever seen. I was sitting at a gaspump and a super hot chick was checking me out right as my spider pipe failed dumping all the antifreeze on my catalytic converter. It was the biggest most embarrassing cloud of smoke I've ever seen. You could have lit it on fire and it wouldn't have been as dramatic.
All those lincs are pretty old now too.

I've never had a m8, but I've had plenty of mn12 cars. Loved them all, but they're difficult to keep on the road these days. The aftermarket has let them down.. Mostly suspension parts are completely trash in the aftermarket, and all the oe stuff went obsolete 15 years ago.

The best mn12 site is tccoa.com

Probably m8 specific ones out there though, if they still exist.

I remember the buzz when they introduced the Mrk 8 It was to be the fastest production car ever produced at the time.

Able to pass 200 mph with only the removal of the mirrors.

Never had one. Had a couple Mark VIIs with the bmw diesel though. they were pretty awesome.

Don't expect low 30's mpg. Physics rule that impossible, never mind the maths.

Never mind Google search :flipoff2:

I think xjmark had one.
I had a '93. Loved that thing. Super comfortable, and fast for what it was. The suspension would start lowering the car when it was going over 60 mph. It was rumored to be good for 177 mph in stock trim with the speed limiter defeated. A word of warning, the stock brakes can't handle what the car is capable of.

I reluctantly sold it and my suburban when I bought the new tow rig. If I had the room, I'd gladly buy another if the right deal came along.

I had an 87 continental for a bit. For the $300 I paid for it it was badass. Relocated the ride height sensors so the airbags sat 2" lower. Beat the piss outtah that 5.0 for a few years.

When wife got pregnant I realized I needed to not be spending so much $ on fuel so I sold it for IIRC $2500

I got low 30’s with about 70% highway driving at 65-70. Low to mid 20’s around town, mid 30’s on longer road trips. Drove it for about 6 years, got better mileage than the wife’s minivan.

Stock 4.6, 235/75’s rear, 215’s up front, airbag suspension swapped for an aftermarket coil kit.
