The Toyota centers are proving to be very strong with the portals. Haven't heard anyone running them with zuk centers.

Side note. I really want to build a micro moon buggy with Sami 3rds and sxs portals :laughing:

Ya, it’s a super compact V6.

Thats what was in Jeff’s car earlier. Same as Tracy Jordan newest crawler.
 
The guy running now (Nate christensen) went back to normal 9" diffs cause they were breaking the other smaller stuff from what I heard :confused: dunno.

moonbuggies are like crossfit or vegans, probably great but nobody seem able to talk about issues with them :rasta:

I always wanted to run a 3800sc or the later 3.4 that Jesse H used in one of his build.

The "new" 4.3 is pretty sweet also. If the old 4.3 is a 350 with 2 cyl cut off, the new one is an ls1 with 2 cyl cut off. All aluminum, pushrod, individual coil packs, 300 hp stock. ~300 lbs iirc.

What's funny is I remember they were the shit in the early 2000s. Mostly mogs, but I swear there was a company that made a H1 portal/9" center axle way back then. Then it seemed like they faded away.
 
Pat Gremillion had them on the Shark truck. (premium power guy)

Well a few years ago Tracy J spanked everyone with spider axles.

i remember "lots" (okay, a couple) of people doing mogs and the rare whatever small mog axle was back then. don't remember ever seeing H1 portal combos being used though.

What ever happened to the Rock Bug? That thing was badass for its time but I feel like it never worked as well as it could have.

In 2006 I helped with Dave Kemner/Full Circle team in WE-Rock, he had Mog portals and an air-cooled VW engine in his unlimited buggy. He rolled down the big face at Paragon and broke one of the portal housings, and we changed it in the parking lot of the hotel that night. I don't think there were too many other portal rigs then, but you also had guys like Randy Torbett on ZF planetary tractor axles being pretty competitive. Fun times with that crew :laughing:
 
Well I was talking about the moon buggy. Rockbug got sold and hacked up I think. Same with the moon buggy.
 
I was just thinking about the rock bug, probably the coolest build thread to follow. Fab skills those guys have is unreal. Heat treating the whole fucking axles :grinpimp: then making the link bolts out of chromo Dom :grinpimp:

Every single part on that buggy was pimp, I even remember the brake pedal being pimp as hell :laughing:

I still remember spidertrax as the guys with the yellow 1/4 elip Sami too :laughing:​​​​​​

As mentioned, it never seemed to work as good as it should have. Wasn't the crazy V4 a big flop?
