What's new

Just Joined the Forklift Club :smokin:

What did you pay? I’ve been toying around with getting one we usually rent one once or twice a year. They are handy as hell but whenever I see them they are 20k plus and need work.
That one was 23k. They go pretty fast around here at 30-40, although I think it’s dropping off.

Weighs 10 tons, lifts 3 tons.

$10k CDN.

The reach has a lot to do with it. My JCB weighs about 5tons and lifts 2.1tons....but only has about 16' of reach. I'd like one with a little more reach, but the JCB is right at the max of what can be hauled on my 15k trailer and that is a huge bonus.

I was just posting it because of the price.

10 grand CDN seems cheap. It even runs (smokes).

Anyway, I would think the rated lift capacity of all of them would be fully retracted, just like how cranes are rated. I recall talking to the operator of a big crane, 400 tons I think and he said that at full extension, with a level boom it could only lift 2000 lbs or so. I'm almost surprised it could even fully extend when dead level.

The ratios seem to be in the same ballpark.

10:3 is similar to 5:2.1

Went to run the old Clark today. Opened the tank valve and it's leaking around the stem.

I put an adjustable wrench on the packing nut and it seems tight. I think I can use a 6pt socket if I pull the handle off the valve.

Guess there's no harm in trying, but I think I'm going to try outside. :homer:

the gland nut is going to be left hand thread
it will also not have packing in it, it is a diaphragm on older valves and an o-ring on newer valves

backseat the valve when you're using it until it's empty then take it apart to see if you can stuff a new o-ring in there

Or just bring it to your local welding supply and pay the little extra premium for a swap.

I've been known to buy out of date tanks on FB and Arc3 has no problem swapping them out.

Will it seal?

I forgot about that (being told to fully open welding gas bottles for that reason. It's leaking bad enough that I'm too chickenshit to keep opening it with liquid propane spraying at me. :lmao:

Guess I'll break out the welding gloves and face shield.

I don't think I've got anyone around that'll swap propane bottles like that. I need to find out how much it'll cost to get this one requalified I guess.

Huh. Must be different in frostbackistan. Just about all the welding shops around here will swap them.
I once traded a 12 pack of decent beer for a dented and out of date one from someone on a local board. Drove straight to Airgas and swapped it for a full one. :grinpimp:
