Illegal to kill bats here?…WTF?

shut the fuck up. why do people tell this lie and act like its been done?

bats are the size of your thumb. they arent grabbing a fucking sock full of rocks. they arent an eagle for fucks sake. nor a hawk.

I've done it probably a hundred times but just ball up 2 socks. Most successful was at the hot springs over looking reno. 2 socks and a 12 guage with target load was a really fun drinking activity.

I don't do it for a living but netting the area off just works. PITA. Honky, do the spikes work ? Like the ones you see professionally installed at box stores to abate starlings and pigeons ? If not, why ?

Why not put up some bat houses. Bats are amazing for bug control, I wouldn't want them gone. Give them a good place to setup shop and they should leave the house alone I would think.

Just go on Amazon and look at the designs. No need to spend those prices on some wooden boxes, but easy to make
Bat houses do help. Every August we had a problem with bats getting into our old house. One year we left for 4 days the second week of August and when we got home there was 30+ bats in the garage wood stove that came down through the chimney and couldn't get back out.

I put a half dozen bat houses up on trees 50-ish yards from the house and it made a noticeable difference. We'd still have one or two that would find their way into the house, but not mass numbers like before that.

ETA: Honky says they don't work and he does this for a living. They seemed to for us though, but something else might have changed at the same time to make them not swarm our house.

No, the answer is the bat might’ve used them, but they didn’t leave your house. It was just another area for them to be unless you evict them from your house and seal it up. They’re still going back in there. You’re trying to make them live in a single wide trailer in an abandoned Junkyard (bat house) instead of the mansion.

That makes sense. When we first started having issues was right after we logged our timber. At the same time we put up the bat houses we also went to extremes to make sure the house was sealed up.

My in-laws had an issue with bats in and under the siding of their home. They were told the same thing. Can’t lol them or anything. We ended up opening the wall where they were and left it open. After a couple days they were gone and we sealed it up tight. They make ultra sonic bat deterers. Don’t know if they are worth a crap. A farm I know of uses essential oils to deter them. The aroma of pepper mint is always in the air.
A friend of mine did this. They flew away on their own and he sealed everything up. I believe he put a bat house on the far side of this property.

As kids, we use to have marbles in socks. Throw them up in the air around bats. The bats would grab the sock and get stuck and be brought down.

I know, no help.
that's just wrong...

use a wool sock and fill with sand.
throw in the air, sand leaks out a little and they think it is a swarm of bugs.
get stuck to it and fall to the ground....

remember we did that once and it worked...
oh shit, now what do we do?

I live right in front of the "Bat Caves" of Hurricane Utah. Dawn and dusk; the bats out chowing down on bugs. I have a couple of large wind-chimes that might be keeping them away from the house. Didn't really think about it, but before I got the chimes; I would see a bat or two hanging uder the porch roof. :smokin::smokin::smokin:

Bat Caves of Hurricane? Sounds like I found their roosting location! I’m in Dixie Springs. Only lived here for the last 18 months or so, wanted to be close to Sand Hallow. Sounds like I need to get me that attack falcon and go check out these caves you speak of…

Think I’ll probably start with trying a wind chime. Several neighbors seem to have them. I find them annoying, but if it works I’d learn to live with it.

shut the fuck up and get an eagle for fucks sake. Or a hawk.

Where exactly does one buy an eagle? This sounds like the logical solution…🤣

All jokes aside, I do genuinely appreciate the input, but so not sure the wife is going to be very excited about netting and / or awkwardly painted corners on her brand new house. The stucco definitely doesn’t help, that’s for sure!

Definitely not living in the attic, been up there to be certain though. Never see them in the day time, they just show up to shit & piss on our house at night….

Hang a low wattage light bulb in a tree within 50 or so yards of your house so the flying bugs can fly around it and the bats will be attracted to it and not your front door etc.

1. buy slick paint like is used on airboat hulls. paint the corners about 4" down and out, maybe 1-2" of the soffit/ceiling

Hmmmm.

As a sign guy ive ran into "anti graffiti coating" a few times. Its a clear, permanantly slick wax like "paint". You cant get tape or pencil marks on it.
Clear so it wont be any sort of visable disruption to your house.

We were told to wait to the fall when they migrate south, seal up every hole and penetration you can find. They will try to return when they migrate back north but will find another nest/roost place if they can't access their old spot.

Anyways seemed to work for me. No more bats in the attic. Plenty of bats around the area still.

And do they bite? I've seen a few around but never picked one up cause they look like they have teeth.

Lights might attract bugs but bats don't eat where they are roosting?

The caves are on the south side of

Hurricane accross from the Copper Rock Golf course. You can hike up to them from the parking lot on W 3270 S. Or you can rappel down from above.

Not all species of bats, migrate south. Little and big brown bats over winter in structures. Colored mats in Mexican failed bats do migrate, but they also don’t live in man-made structures.

By the slick paint. It’s clear there might be a small shine to it, but nothing glaringly obvious put on a couple coats and be done with it.

Everyone else just shut the fuck up you don’t know what you’re talking about. That’s about as nice as I can put it.

How about a leaf blower, aimed at the problem area of the house, with a plug in wall timer. Make it uncomfortable for them to stay there. Just my 2 cents. Maybe put up a wind chime and a disco ball with a light also.

I have a small case of both, neither overly bother me.
Ours are cohabiting with the cotton tails under the out buildings. If they would just refrain from spraying Elliot and just run away like the bunnies do I wouldn’t care. 😕

Meanwhile… I’m trying to figure out which bait will lure them into the trap so I can help out the local vulture population :stirthepot:
