What's new

How long will this log hold up the FEL?

Yes, just use the factory hold-up thingy. No damage will be done.

If somehow you couldn't use it (like if you had to remove both boom cylinders) you could also chain the boom to the hoe, over the roof. It would have to be multiple independent substantial chains before I would consider working under it.

1 hour later it hasn't settled at all. The loader is known to leak down, so I know it's resting on the log.

If your bucket curl cylinder is over center it will be fine, but I have seen enough stuff creep on cylinders with lock valves to not trust anything.
This is what I think could happen if it settles as the angle of the log/curl is wrong. But I did this by myself.

That's normal for people who repair equipment for a living
It shouldn't be.

There's a couple bucks of bent steel tube, two $10-20 fittings, and a dozen bucks of bulk hose? Why should that shit cost $300? It's not like there's a professional running the machine that builds it. Half the time it's a highschool dropout. Yeah there's an expensive machine to pay for but a tire mounter and balancer cost more and they charge $10-20 per tire.

The fact that the price is so divorced from the value of the components that's going in reeks of "there is a better way to do this shit and nobody has figured it out yet because nobody has tried"

If you can wait a couple days, you get get hoses from Surplus cCenter or eBay or Amazon for cheap.

Still holding strong :flipoff2:

Napa had to order a fitting and will have the new hose ready tomorrow. So at a minimum it will hold for ~48 hrs

On another note $261 for a ~3' hose is pretty ridiculous.
Napa is the problem. One by one the stores are stopping building lines. The ones that do figure the price needs to be worth it. The one local here did a remodel and the hoses went bye bye. They said they couldn’t get anyone qualified to do it.

You are probably not wrong.

Estes Park CO is half the problem. I'm sure I could have went down to the city and got it a bit cheaper.

Wait till you have a boom extend hose built for a crane in an oil town hose shop on a Friday night.

on a Friday night.
That's different. You're paying for the inconvenience or the convenience depending on how you look at it. Same reason we pay the guy who has to be up at 1am to argue on the phone with fuckwits in Tokyo more.

You got the schmuck off the street fuck you price.
Well I've known the guy who works there for years.

Oh and speaking of that. What is up with guys working at Napa for decades?

Guy at Estes has been there for 12 years. I was asking him about the guys in Longmont and he said they are still there. At least 20 years that I know of. Similar with Loveland Napa.

Everytime I go to vatozone or Oriellys it's different folks behind the counter.

I can call the guys at the local CaseIH parts dealer on a Sunday afternoon and get someone to come in and get me some parts to get me rolling again. Try not to ever do it, but once in a while shit happens. No upcharge for after hours service. :flipoff2:
