How i almost just got scammed and jumped selling my tacoma...

I feel sorry for the target when you take a 372y shot with a 10mph crosswind
What kind of faggot would be making that shot at something that might move?

There's probably 3 people, maybe Arse if its its a ranger/subaru, who can make that shot on this forum at a fixed steel target.

We should start a thread listing all the topics you're an expert in.
Ugh, thats every single thread posted on this forum.

you guys don't have your buddy on the roof providing overwatch? :flipoff2:
Too slopey. Dangerous.

Damn! Like others I buy and sell a lot, more as a fun hobby.
I've not seen that scam before but now I can watch for it.

I have never felt threatened or nervous, but I am sure when someone talked you into meeting them at 11:30pm your spidy sense had to be tingling, I don't even want to met people before 10am!

Reading some of the comments here, I think people are holding when they go to church!
Lot of cash handled at church.

Your god doesn't protect you in his own house?:flipoff2:
He gave me access to guns to protect myself??? What else could one ask for?

( and I'm joking, I am of the opinion that if there is an almighty and ever present God, and he stands by and watches the rape of children, the abuse, the murder, and the evil in this world. The starvation, and the famine, the droughts, and the floods that kill millions of innocent people. The cancer that slowly kill people in excruciatingly slow manner, and stood by and did nothing...and i was at the gates of heaven, and saint peter offered me the keys to the pearly gates, I would have to decline, because that is not a God I could follow.... and yeah... that's kind of a, the brothers karamazov / Dostoevsky stance)

Well this thread sure went to hell:smokin:

Have you given anymore thought to owning a firearm since this incident? Ignoring the Rambo talk and the shit talking, there's some ugliness in the world, and a man having a $500 357 and a box of shells to protect his family and himself is a pretty low level step to take. Hopefully you never need it, and it spends the next 40 years in the nightstand or glove box, and gets handed down when you pass away. We carry around airbags and spare tires hoping we never need them.

Are we counting rimfire or just center fire?

I don't use those much, and wouldn't reach for one in a defense scenario. Great for plinking though

Not one single bit.maybe I'm in denial, but some of these comments are making me laugh at how people thought this was such a crazy interaction. I wasn't bothered by them aggressively backing me into the truck trying to take their money. I was more upset about them spraying oil all over the engine bay I had steam cleaned earlier that day.
If I owned a gun and had it on me during this "incident", I wouldn't have done anything differently.

Was I supposed to pull it out and point it at them and say "stop aggressively trying to get me to take your low ball offer!"

The thread title refers to almost getting scammed and jumped. It’s not a stretch to interpret that as meaning you considered the possibility they were going to do you physical harm and take your possessions.

No it's more of its in your back pocket, just incase words start to become actions. I'm also a fan of having a second pair of eyes on the transaction. Preferably a cool head, with a gun.

No one is saying you should have used a gun, just that this situation could just as easily have gone in a direction where you should have.

I can see your point there. It certainly wasn't my intent though.

At any time during the interaction, if I felt my life was in danger, I could have quickly turned the situation around and "fallen" for their scam and take the low ball offer and been on my way. Being in a well lit parking lot with cameras everywhere, 20 feet from a major highway, I wasn't too concerned regardless of what time of day it was

No, you don't do anything differently, it just gives you the ability to stay calm instead of acting out of fear. It's like walking next to your big ass best friend, if that makes you cocky and prone to starting shit, you've got some growing up to do before owning a gun. If it gives you the breathing room to address a tense situation with a cool head, owning a gun is probably right for you.

Walking into a 7-11 at 3am and there's 4 thugs on the sidewalk, do you avoid eye contact and take the long way around, signaling that you have reason to be afraid, or do you take the path of least resistance, make eye contact, "excuse me gentlemen" while thinking "double tap" "double tap" "the rest will probably scatter"

They know what you're thinking and things go smoothly.

Anyways, you have a nice life, you have a nice family, as an imaginary friend, it'd be nice to see you take some basic steps to protect it

To each their own. Maybe natural selection will take me out next time and you guys can start a thread when I'm dead and say "we tried to warn him". But I have never once in my 40 years of life been in a situation and thought "I sure wish I had a gun right now."

Maybe that's what it'll take to get me to change my mind.....but it hasnt happened yet

Golly, a whole 372 yards, maybe Mark Wahlberg could make that shot.
In my area of the country, the only way you are making a shot that long, is down a city street, or from the air. Although I suppose you could do it from a hill but no guarantee you wouldn't be shooting into someone's property that has it posted. If in had to guess around here, 90 percent of game animals are taken at 50 yards or less.

I've never once needed a fire extinguisher, doesn't mean I don't keep one under the kitchen sink.

God doesn't shove food and water down my mouth either.

I agree completely.

I live in CA. I used to have a CCW, and let it expire. CA has rigorous requirements, and I did even more. On top of the classes, the range qualifying, I did the Law Enforcement shooter simulator and use of force simulator. I did trainings shooting from vehicles and responding to active shooters.

Yet, every single time I've carried, it felt like (and was) a massive liability. Producing a weapon in public doesn't come with accolades and awards. It comes with police investigation, arrests, civil suits, not to mention the immediate danger of escalation that can result in death. I lost count of how many tough guys with guns I've filed cases on when they brandish it in what could have been an easily de-escalated situation.

In your OP, let's say you produce a gun. They call the cops. 2 people's words vs. yours. You have a gun on you. You agreed to 11:30 PM meet time. If they don't have a gun, and you can't articulate very, very well why you pulled that gun... congrats. You're getting a charge. You're also getting sued civilly.

PC 417(a)(2). I can recite the jury instructions by memory at this point. People on your property that won't leave, road rage, neighbor disputes, security guards at Target, etc. etc; I've seen a lot of people pull guns irresponsibly, (even cops) and wind up paying the consequences.

Concealed carry isn't a license to be a modern age cowboy. It's a last resort, when you can't run or hide. I never trained to fire-fight; I trained for tactical withdrawal. I'm saving my family first, and that's it. Even then it's an extraordinary danger, based on the scientifically proven impacts of stress. Sadly, far too many people don't appreciate the enormous responsibility and minimize the awesome restraint that is required to responsibly carry.
