How hard is inflation going to hit, or has hit?

GPA bought a brand new BC3 from Cummins for $11K in the mid 80's. Try that now with all the advanced manufacturing tech.

That's about $34k, adjusted for inflation.

A reman NTC400 BC3 can be had for $28k. Cummins 855 Big Cam III 400 HP– Extended Long Block Diesel Engine | Big Bear Engine Company

The modern equivalent, the X15 at the same HP rating (as more torque, though) can be found for $1k LESS: New Cummins X15 Engine Assy for sale | Hialeah Florida United States | Engine Assys | TPI

more fear mongering bull shit.

… lol

They cite autozone as a source in that article

You know the company that has a store on damn near every corner in many markets
… stores that don’t hardly stock anything and have to get ( the likely made in chy-na ) parts from a warehouse
… and one that went on an acquisition spree buying up other VERY successful companies that they then tried to integrate into their grand schemes but in reality diluted them to obsolescence/obscurity

Not exactly the kind of company that a thinking consumer would utilize as a well thought out business model :lmao:

I’ve got an idea

How about we bring manufacturing back to the good ole USA ? :usa:

Just a random observation but 23 years on the job and this is the first that none of my coworkers have brought in surplus or leftover halloween candy. A popcorn bowl in the breakroom would be overfilled with surplus or misfit candy soon after halloween. My kids aged out of trick or treating, so can't gauge if people weren't participating as much.

I don't know what happened. We always had dozens of tricker treaters, Not a single one this year.

I wouldn't correlate Halloween too much into this, it was a weeknight just before an election, and "weekend before Halloween trunk or treat " type thing is becoming more common

We usually go to my mom's neighborhood, I did notice more dark houses, and less foot traffic, but I think I'd put more of that on pre election funk. The next few weeknights after the election, restaurants were jamming

What part is fear mongering? The Don has said he is going to raise tarriffs on China. If that happens, prices will go up.
If the retailers continue to purchase from Chinese suppliers. Maybe they'll look into purchasing from other countries w/o tarrifs?
I have no clue if that's an option or not.

Again.....what's the fucking difference to you this time verses last time? Fuck he almost had China bankrupt. He sold them rice for fucks sake.

maybe you are trying to buy that non-milk containing butter? :smokin:
In all fairness my wife said she bought it a the mountain general store, I'm sure it's not that bad at the local grocery stores.

one report I read stated that the last time around, China paid the tariffs, because their economy relies on us so much that passing the costs on would reduce demand too much.

Yes, that is happening too.

Steve Madden (NASDAQ:SHOO) is one of the first companies to make a move. The shoe retailer, which sources 70% of its products from China, announced that it will cut its reliance on Chinese production by half, moving to places like Vietnam, Cambodia and Mexico. Even with these changes, customers should anticipate price increases as Steve Madden manages the higher expenses related to the effects of tariffs and changing supply chains.

With a large bag of Halloween candy prices at $25, I'm not too surprised. Lots of houses with the porch lights off for trick or treating this year.

We went trick or treating with my son and his niece in my SILs hood like we have done every year. I didn't notice any difference in the number of houses giving out candy or in the number of people out.

the free market is a wonderful thing. it will overcome and adapt. manufacturing will return to the US and companies will be forced to either adapt or die. THats what the market does.

and for those smooth brains who say.... this isnt free market!! .... Tariffs are needed to CORRECT the improper government regulation in our Country that sets min wage, environmental restrictions and all unnecessary government interference that has bastardized our free market economy.

We should tariff the shit out of countries that do not have anything near the human rights, worker, or environmental protections that we do because they will ALWAYS undercut our economy based upon those factors.

NAFTA was the beginning of the destruction of American manufacturing and offshoring of jobs. we've been watching jobs go out of this country for 30 years now and the government continues to kill job creation at home. its insane.

There has been a concerted effort to freak out parents with stories of crime and pedophiles. Many people take the kids to trick/treat during the day at schools or parking lots or other closed ("safe") environments where herds fo other children are there. Noticed at Menards was selling decoration kits for the trunk of your car this year. Never seen that before.

Free range kids are a thing of the past. I hope that comes back in the future.
