How does this ram come apart?

That's my vote
I really dont think the cap thing unscrews. If it does that would mean the part behind it is fixed right.. if the female threaded part behind it is fixed how would the shaft slide out past it?

But im here because I have nfc

I'm not real familiar with hydraulic rams, but I doubt that a snap ring or circle clip is holding that thing together.

I dont think so either. There is 0 extra tollerance between the cap and ring welded to the body.

However beating on it in that direction is the easiest thing to do so I may try that tommorow

I don't know, maybe they both screw in? The cylinder could have a small bore?

No manual. Its a Bolderson 6 way dozer assembly on a cat d4 dozer. I believe cat only produced the straight blade and Bolderson manufactured the 6 way for cat. These are the agle rams
CAT bought Balderson in the early 90s.

No idea on your cylinder. I bring them to a guy these days unless they are little ones. Works out of his garage and has awesome customer service.

I've done it with air while holding the shaft, the shaft blew out, slipped through my hands, hit me in the chest and knocked the wind out of me:homer:.
Busted a piston in an 8" cylinder doing that. Gave it a little air and it shot out at Mach Jesus and flew like 15ft across the shop. Was still finding hydraulic oil on stuff MONTHS later. Somehow got in the coffeffee maker like 30ft away even.

The wire ring retainer is a thing. I had a ram I couldn't get apart on an old forklift. I had to push in the puck and pull the ring out then it came right apart. Google it fuckers:flipoff2:

Did it also have bolts though?

There's probably just an old crusty seal on the od of that plate you need to work it past.

Bolts maybe there to make sure it didn't get pushed in at a bad time (like while running the machine) ?

The bolted cap might have a shoulder that keeps it from being able to get pushed in, and threads into the part retained by the ring.

This.

Fer Christ sakes, have you tried tappy, tap,tap yet? The snap ring hides behind the collar.:flipoff2:

Maybe holding the cap to the gland. It’s either this or the glad unscrews. It’s gotta be one of those. He would know immediately if there isn’t fluid in it. The gland would slide back fairly easily if it’s a snap ring. Otherwise he’s going to have to make a spanner to match the bolt holes.😜

Saw one similar in a FB group the other day. On this one I believe the cover popped off and then there was a wire retaining ring that held the gland in. Kind of like the ring that holds the slug in on a Dana 44 locking hub.

This is what I had envisioned, when I said pull it apart... winch or come along was a bit in excess....:usa::smokin:

In my defense, I was HAF last nite!

And again if wrong so be it!

That's exactly how the bottom cap on my Fox SxS shocks work. Outer is just a dust cap and all the good stuff is behind it.

Just did a little with a large brass punch/ piece of round stock. It didnt obviously move but ill try harder later. Im running around like crazy tring to get a million things done.

Can not wait to see how , this particular puzzle comes apart!:usa::smokin:

Just sayin.

Amazing that one kind of thing can be redesigned.. and made so many different ways .. and yets still does same job.
That's where a good hydraulic shop is invaluable.

Put it on counter and dude rattles off some part number and "working on a 70s (insert obscure equipment here) are ya?"
Edit... apparently asterisks make stuff itialiac

That’s great. But the hydraulic shops here rape you
